This work will be focused on a Private Teaching . The learner needs are centered in an interview that will take place next year in March. In order to meet this purpose the learner should be able to handle a formal conversation given personal information. The whole interview will be in English from top to bottom. This probably will mix personal background and specific information concerning the job itself. The learner needs to improve and dominates the four skills; Reading skills for e-mail, reports, newsletters and other forms of business correspondence ; Writing skills for clear, persuasive e-mail and other types of business correspondence; Listening skills for face-to-face communication, meetings, videoconferencing, podcasts and telephone conversations; Speaking skills
for effective presentations, face-to-face communication, meetings, videoconferencing, teleconferencing and telephone conversations
As the learner has a vast experience in the shipping transportation area he dominates partially the 4 skills, he handles all the technical vocabulary required, and he has also had the opportunity to be in charge of a Russian crew, where English was the language spoken. His listening skill must be improved, however he is able to understand more than what he is able to reproduce orally; the writing area is only for technical terms and it is hard for him to write about issues which are not connected with his job.
In order to improve the learners weaknesses, this course count on 10 sessions of 3 hours each which will be distributed in one hour every other day (Monday, Wednesday and Friday). Each session will be composed by a mix of the 4 skills. At first current events will be used in order to get the learners confidence. Then lessons will be focused on topics which are connected with the job itself. By the end of the lessons videos about the Dos and donts of an interview will be shown which will help the learner to avoid or add some information during his interview. As the student was previously evaluated, it was detected that his weakest grammar structures are the perfect tenses, for this reason in the first lesson these structures will be taught in an focalized reinforcement. Finally the General Expected Learning that the learner must meet at the end of the lessons are: to describe, tell, and write general and specific information about shipping vessels to explain, discuss and conclude different topics, especially in the shipping area. to argue, assess and justify his own or others opinion.
