WORKSHEET UNIT 10

NAME: Carlo Emmanuel Redoble DATE: 06/29/11 Task 1 Identify the following conditionals, state their usage and give 2 activate stage teaching ideas for each, giving examples of how the students would use the target language productively.

a) If it rains tomorrow, Ill buy an umbrella. First conditional It is used to think about a particular condition or situation in the future. Connecting sentence this is a pair work where students will make first conditional sentences by connecting sentence halves. First conditional bingo each student will be given a card containing six boxes. In each box there is the ending of a first conditional sentence. o (If I drive fast, I will arrive early.) o (If I eat well, I will heal quickly.) o (If he helps her, she will finish her paper.) b) If I had studied harder, I would have passed the test. Third conditional It is used to talk about a condition in the past that did not happen. Reality guessing the students will write real things that they did before & some ideas of what could have happen if things had gone differently than their partner will guess whether it was real or not. Regrets students will tell their partners their regrets & their partners tell them what worse things have happened if they had done those things. o (If I had driven fast, I would have arrived.) o (If I had eaten well, I would have healed.) o (If he had helped her, she would have finished her paper.) c) If I had studied medicine, I would be a doctor. Mixed conditional this is a combination of second conditional & third conditional. Complete the conditional the teacher will give half a conditional & tell them to complete it with their own ideas. Chain conditionals the students will take their turns to continue a conditional sentence. o (If I had driven fast, I would be the winner.) o (If I had eaten fruits & vegetables, I would be healthy.) o (If he had helped her, they would be friends.) d) If I won the lottery, I would buy a new house. Second conditional this is the same with first conditional but there is no real possibility that this condition will happen. Word order the students will arrange the jumbled words to form a second conditional sentence. Connecting sentence this is a pair work where students will

make first conditional sentences by connecting sentence halves. o (If I drove fast, I wouldn't try drift racing.) o (If I ate healthy foods, I wouldn't drink medicine.) o (If he helped her, they would solve the problem.) e) If water freezes, it turns to ice. Zero conditional use zero conditionals for actions that are permanently true or general truths. Word order the students will arrange the jumbled words to form a second conditional sentence. Spilt sentences separate zero conditional sentences into halves & mix them then let the student connect those sentences into proper order. o (When you eat vegetables, you grow healthy.) o (When you study hard, you get good grades.) o (When the water heats, it turns to vapor.)
