Dear Prof. Trster,

The PhD position of ``Crowd-Sourcing of Human Activity Recognition on Mobile Phones'' advertised on PASCAL website may interests match it, me. and My I background would like and to

contribute to this project. I have enclosed my resume and required documents for your review. I cutout, Advanced am currently an engineer face working on object at of

USA,

which

is

Singapore-based joint research center established by UIUC and Agency for Science, Technology and Research of Singapore government. Color and Depth cameras,

like Kinect, ToF, are used in my projects, and some demos are developed. Those works are in line with the activities topics. I obtained B.Eng in embedded system from Nanchang University, which is one of the universities China will make significant investment in the 21st century. There system I gained and systematic education in and embedded hands-on analysis or object recognition related

software

development,

experience in coding skills base on WinCE and ARM. I believe this may match parts of project's work well. I received M.Eng in Image Processing and Pattern Recognition from South China University of

Technology, which is one of China's key universities operating under the direct leadership of the State Ministry of Education, and with high reputation,

on

engineering.

In

recognition,

using the ``Locality Preserve Projects'' algorithms. Those show my programming skills are not bad, and have experience in mobile programming, and pattern recognition. From Sep. 2008, I did research oriented internship at Lab for Media Search of National University of Singapore. There I focus on two topics: a)Machine

learning for large-scale image search. We construct a web scale image database, in this project, I

responded to using LibSVM and KNN methods to train classifier read for each high-level concept. Meanwhile, for

papers

regarding

multi-instance

learning

object recognition; and b)Landmark recognition. This

is my independent work to wish a success internship. I developed a system called ``ViewFocus'', which can explore landmarks by geo-tagged photos with view

filtering. So, I have hands-on experience in machine learning for large scale dataset, as well as the

ability of independent research. From Jan. 2010, I was research fellow with Social Network Mining group of Singapore Management

University. I mainly developed an evaluation system for ``web review spam detection''. I experienced in social networks mining. It matches project

requirements regarding social network.

I also worked in a financial systems company, where I was the main developer of a web based trading system. I believe this proved my ability to develop

commercial project. I have involved in research and development in several international teams for almost 3 years, which improve my cooperation and communication skills much

better. My research have been published to several conference papers, including top tier conference like ACM Multimedia. I believe I can success the PhD at Wearable Computing Laboratory. I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss my qualifications more extensively in an interview. I can be reached at 65 9765 0309. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Zhiping Luo
