Generic Name: Cefuroxime

Anti-infective (Cephalosporin2nd generation)

750mg BID IV

Decreases or control the infection

Eliminates bacteria that causes different kinds of infection

Hypersensitivity to Cephalosporins

Can cause cerebral irritation and convulsion; nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, GI distubances

-Take by mouth with a full glass of water. -Do not crush or chew. -Works best if taken with food. - Take as ordered. Do not skip doses or stop medicine early. -If theres a missed dose, take as soon as remembered. If it is almost time for the next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

Nursing responsibilities -Check if patient is allergic to Penicillin. -Advise not to crush or chew capsules. -Take in even doses around the clock; if GI upset occurs, give with food; drug must be taken for 1014days. -Take one hour or two hours before meal and it should be taken with a full glass of water.

Anti-infective (Cephalosporin 1st generation)

Brand Name: Keflex

Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, thus promoting osmotic instability which eventually leads to bacterial cell death.

To treat infections caused by susceptible pathogens

Hypersensitivity to Cephalosporins and Penicillin

Most common are diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, skin rash.

Generic Name: Mefenamic acid

Analgesics

250-500 mg Freq Q4 PO

Brand Name: Ponstel

Aspirin-like drug that has analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory activities. These activities appear to be due to its ability to inhibit cyclooxygenase and also antagonize certain effects of prostaglandins. Mefenamic acid displays central and peripheral activities.

Relief of pain

Hypersensitivity. Active ulceration or chronic inflammation of either the upper or lower gastrointestinal tract (GIT). If diarrhea or skin rash appears, the drug should. Blood disorders, poor platelet function.

Gastrointestinal discomfort, diarrhea or constipation, gas pain, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness and dizziness. Peptic ulceration, visual disturbance, autoimmune hemolytic anemia.

-Instruct the patient to take the drug after meal. -Increase fiber intake. -Keep side rails up. -Instruct patient not to take the drug more than 7 days.
