GOOD SEEDS Today Jesus continues to speak to his followers using parables. What a rich treasure we are given today in three parables about the kingdom of heaven! The kingdom is likened to a man sowing good seed in his field, a mustard seed, and yeast mixed with flour. As they did last week, today the disciples press Jesus for an interpretation of one of the parables--the parable of the man sowing good seed. Lest we think that these parables are simply amusing little anecdotes, Jesus' interpretation should be seen for what it is--a warning. Wailing and grinding of teeth in a fiery furnace await those who are children of the evil one. This parable points to the struggle for today's believer. Sometimes, through sin, we sow weeds and prevent the love of Christ from blossoming. Let today's Gospel help put us back on track. Let us recommit ourselves to prepare for the last days, the harvest, by blossoming as the good seeds we were created in love to be. QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK 1. Today we support the Holy Father in his charitable works. The Peters Pence Collection is taken up worldwide to support the most disadvantaged: victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters and others in need of emergency assistance. Pope Benedict XVI has said, It is necessary above all that every person be motivated by the authentic spirit of peace (Homily, January 1, 2011). Cast the peace of Christ upon the worldplease be generous in todays Collection.

Walk my neighbor's dog. Put money in a parking meter that ran out. Don't talk behind people's backs. Clean house when Mom and Dad are out. Put out the trash without being asked. Invite your friend to Mass. Don't yell at your sister. Make dinner for Mom and Dad. Do something you're good at for

someone. Save some allowance and give it to poor people. Bigger kids should help out the little guys. Pray for people who are sick or in trouble. Send "I love you" notes to parents at work. Make breakfast. Parents clean up for you; pick up after them, too. Visit people who don't have family or are just plain lonely. When friends look sad, give them a hug.

Prayer for a New Bishop

Almighty God, send your Holy Spirit to guide those who will advise the Holy Father in the selection of the next Bishop of the Diocese of Fresno. May he have the zeal of Saint Paul, the priestly gifts of Saint John Vianney, the wisdom of a loving father and brother, and most of all, the heart of your Son, Jesus. We ask that the Blessed Virgin Mary intercede for us, and Saint Therese, our patroness, join us in this prayer, which we make through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Lord Jesus Christ, shepherd of souls, who called the apostles to be fishers of men, raise up new apostles in your church. Welcoming the Roman Missal (Third Edition)

MODIFICATION WILL HELP PEOPLE LEARN NEW PARTS, EASE IMPLEMENTATION Archbishop Gregory Aymond of New Orleans, chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) Committee on Divine Worship, announced that diocesan bishops may permit the gradual introduction of the musical settings of the peoples parts of the Mass from the new Roman Missal in September. Primarily, this affects the Gloria, the Holy, Holy, Holy and the Memorial Acclamations. This variation to the implementation of the Roman Missal, Third Edition, set to take place all at once on November 27, was authorized by USCCB President, Archbishop Timothy Dolan of New York, and adopted by the committee to allow parishes communities to learn the various parts of the new translation in a timely fashion and an even pace. The Committee made the decision in response to requests from several bishops. Some suggested that the various acclamations could be more effectively introduced throughout the fall, so that when the full Missal is implemented on the First Sunday of Advent, the congregation will have already become familiar with the prayers that are sung. Monsignor Cotta, our diocesan administrator, has given permission for the Diocese of Fresno in regard to the implementation of the new service music, commencing in September. Page 5

BUENAS SEMILLAS Hoy Jess continua hablando en parbolas con sus seguidores. Qu rico tesoro nos regalan las tres parbolas sobre el Reino de los cielos! El Reino se parece: a un hombre que siembra buena semilla en su campo, a una semilla de mostaza y a la levadura que se mezcla en la harina. Al igual que la semana pasada, hoy los discpulo piden que Jess les interprete una de las parbolas -la parbola del hombre que siembra buena semilla. Para que no pensemos que estas parbolas son simples ancdotas entretenidas, la interpretacin de Jess debe considerarse como lo que es -una advertencia. Llanto y desesperacin esperan a los hijos del maligno. Esta parbola seala la lucha del creyente de hoy. A veces, por el pecado, sembramos cizaa y evitamos que el amor de Cristo florezca. Que el Evangelio de hoy nos ayude a retornar al buen camino. Comprometmonos a prepararnos para los das finales, para el tiempo de cosecha, floreciendo como buenas semillas creadas por el amor. Aqu van algunas de sus ideas en cuanto a cmo demostrar el amor de Jess a los dems. Sacar a caminar al perro de mi vecina. Poner dinero en un parqumetro que ya se venci. No hablar de nadie a sus espaldas. Limpiar la casa cuando mam y pap se encuentran fuera. Sacar la basura sin que me lo pidan. Invitar a tu amigo a Misa. No gritarle a tu hermana. Dios Todopoderoso, enva tu Espritu Santo para guiar a aquellos quienes van a recomendar y aconsejar al Santo Padre en la seleccin del prximo Obispo de la Dicesis de Fresno. Que l posea la pasin de San Pablo, los dones sacerdotales de San Juan Vianney, la sabidura de un padre y hermano amoroso; y sobre todo, el corazn de tu Hijo, Jess. Imploramos que la Sagrada Virgen Mara interceda por nosotros, y que Santa Teresita del Nio Jess, nuestra patrona, nos acompae en esta splica, la cual hacemos en Cristo, nuestro Seor. Amn.

Se compone de tres aos y los tres estn conectados, es decir es un proceso o camino de formacin en el que buscamos comprender y profundizar la misin de la Iglesia en medio de los desafos y esperanzas que la realidad actual nos presenta.
