The Invocation of Mid Shabn

The scholars recommend that the following invocation (du) be recited after alt al-maghrib on the eve of
the fifteenth of Shabn, and that it not be missed. The method of performing the prayer is as follows:
1) Recite Srah Y-Sn with the intention that God (Exalted be He!) extend your life and fill it with
worship and excellent deeds. Then, recite the invocation below.
2) Again, recite Srah Y-Sn, but this time with the intention that God (Exalted be He!) protect you
from tribulation and affliction. Then, recite the invocation below.
3) Finally, recite Srah Y-Sn a third time, now with the intention that God (Exalted be He!) release
you from reliance on others. Then, recite the invocation below.

Interpretation:
In the Name of God, the Clement, the Merciful
May God send blessings and peace on our lord, Muammad, and on his folk and companions.
Oh God! Oh Dispenser of favour Whom none else can favour! Oh Lord of majesty and bounty! Oh Possessor
of might and magnanimity! There is no god but You: Aid to the fallen, Guardian to those who seek refuge,
Safety to the fearful.
Oh God! If you had written of me in that which is in Your Presence, the Mother of Book, that I should be
wretched, deprived, rejected, or straitened in my provision, then efface, Oh God, by Your grace, my
wretchedness, deprivation, rejection, and straitening of provision. And confirm me in that which is in Your
Presence, the Mother of the Book, as felicitous, prosperous, and endowed with success in all good.
For indeed, You have saidand Your word is Truth!in Your Book revealed on the tongue of Your Deputed
Prophet:
God effaces and confirms what He will, and with Him is the Mother of the Book.1
My God! By the greatest manifestation (al-tajall), on the eve of mid Shabn the Ennobledon which every
affair is allocated in wisdom2 and sanctionedlift from me all tribulationthat of which I know and do not
knowand forgive me that of which You are All-Knowing.
Oh God! Of Your slaves, make me amongst the greatest in allotment and fortune from anything you have
apportioned on this eve, be it light by which You guide, mercy that You disperse, provision that You expand,
or grace that You divide amongst Your believing slaves. Oh God! Oh God! There is no god but You.
Oh God! Grant me a heart conscious and pure, free from associating partners to Your Majesty, neither
unfaithful nor unhappy; a heart sound, submissive, humble.
Oh God! Fill my heart with Your light, and the lights of Your sight,3 Your beauty, Your perfection, Your love,
Your protection, Your might, Your knowledgeOh Most Merciful of the merciful!
May God the Exalted send blessings and peace on our lord, Muammad, and on his folk and companions.
