available out of the box, yet modular to allow you to mix and match between webMethods OneData functionality and your enterprise standard tool.

Easily scalable from departmental to

enterprise-wide solution.

Use your own data model in the

webMethods OneData solution, or use one of our templates. Either way, the model is persisted as-is in the back-end, and remains open to access by other software.

Standards-based, modular architecture with

easy enterprise integration options.

The model is easily extendible at any time, Fact Sheet

and the user interface adapts accordingly without any programming changes.

KEY FEATURES
Repository The repository is the store for the master data and reference data, definitions and structures, workflow and process flow settings, and rules. The repository has three distinct areas one for internal webMethods OneData metadata and two to hold your data, called the Authoring and Release areas. Data creation and maintenance are performed first in the Authoring area, and after the relevant workflow approval rules are satisfied, all changes are automatically moved to the Release area. The webMethods OneData Metadata area stores all internal metadata and application-related configuration. Model Configurator You can define your own data model or import it from a modeling tool or another database. Configuration features include the ability to build business objects from a collection of base objects, configure the user interface, and build workflow rules and associate them to objects.

Data Manager The functional core of webMethods OneData for most business users, with a vast array of data management features such as filter/search, add-copy-edit-delete-restore, multiple-column sort, import/export, and print/email. Workflow and Collaboration Workflow rules can be configured and associated with webMethods OneData objects to implement an effective governance process. In the case of the ISO 11179 model, this is in addition to the workflow rules prescribed by the standard. Separate rules can be created for inserts and deletes, as well as at the column level in the case of updates. Data Acquisition and Deployment An ImportWizard loads structures and data from other applications or files, resolving and maintaining all dependencies during the import process. The Deployment module distributes repository contents to subscribing systems, enabling quick alignment of all applications without any programming, and insulates

downstream systems from structure changes. Distribution technologies available include Messaging, XML, direct updates, and email or file transfer. A built-in scheduler allows batch runs of imports and deployments at pre-defined times. Hierarchy Manager Hierarchical structures of various types (selfrecursive and network-recursive hierarchies) can be created and managed with the webMethods OneData front end, including ragged hierarchies where there is no concept of named levels and the number of nodes between the root node and any leaf node vary from one leaf to the other. The ability to filter on any attribute and navigate down the filtered branches is an important feature.

With webMethods OneData, available out of the box are powerful features to create and maintain master data including hierarchies, a business-user interface, and the ability to version, approve and deploy master data to all your enterprise systems.

Versioning Multiple versioning options available, and all of them can be in active use in a repository, allowing you to choose the right approach for the domain.

Process Configurator The Process Flow module allows administrators to graphically draw the process flow and eliminates the need to code the wizard in the iHook framework. Matching & Cleansing Engine The Matching Engine in webMethods OneData provides data matching capabilities beyond the simplistic matching algorithms based on string matches and soundex. Security Authorizations and Authentication control column-level as well as row-level access to data. Support for external authentication via LDAP orWindows Active Directory comes out of the box. Reporting The built-in Reporting wizard can be used to create and publish reports, and in addition, since the database structure is open and non-proprietary, any 3rd-party reporting tool can be used to report against the contents of the repository. Auditing and Logging All changes made to structures as well as data is recorded and maintained. Detailed audit logs are available that can be reported on, based on the object, user, time of change, and so on.

OneData Anywhere An innovative feature, webMethods OneData Anywhere decouples the presentation layer from the back-end. This allows for any registry content to be exposed on an external website or portal.

Persistent Version: A snapshot of an approved

version is created as the working version. All changes are made to the working version, and the changes migrate through the workflow approval pipeline as a single version. On final approval, changes are posted to deploy and report-only users. on individual nodes and on relationships are used to query for a point in time and derive active nodes and relationships, rather than maintaining a snapshot.

Messaging and Web Services/API The Messaging module provides real-time Java Message Service-based integration capabilities for both inbound as well as outbound feeds. API/Web Services provides programmatic access to the repository using the published API or Web Services.

Temporal Nodes: Effective and Expiration dates Granular, role-based security, with the ability to

In-place snapshot: Effective and Expiration

dates on individual nodes, relationships and updates allow users to query for a point in time. As compared to the Temporal Nodes option, this approach shows the user the nodes as well as their associated attributes at any point in time. iHooks and Rules Engine webMethods OneData user exits, called iHooks, form an extensive framework that allows extensibility of the application either with stored procedures or Java RMI functions. iHooks can invoke validation routines, interactive process flow wizards and post-action events such as data manipulation and workflow approval.

MDM ARCHITECTURE APPROACHES

webMethods OneData supports multiple architectural styles, in the same instance. Transactional Style: This architectural approach is used in scenarios where master data creation can be centralized and disassociated from operational processes to a certain extent. For example, external counterparties in financial businesses, or suppliers in retail are created after a due diligence process of negotiations and contracts. This approach, however, may not be feasible in a B2C use case.

In the figure, T1 and T2 are transactional systems that use the master data and are the recipients from the central source of creation.

Consolidation Style In cases where master data is created as part of key processes, the displacement of systems that create master data is not an option. The requirement to get a consolidated view for reporting and analytics is addressed by recreating the master in batch mode using automated tools for matching and consolidation. The consolidated view of master data is stored primarily as a reference, and not fed back to the source systems.

In the figure, T1 and T2 are current transactional systems that feed the consolidation/cleansing engine to create a gold copy. Some enrichment can be done during the consolidation to derive attributes or get information from external data providers.

Hybrid Style This is a type of consolidation either as an interim process of getting to a transaction style, or if this is the only feasible option. This approach is a combination of central authoring and consolidation from distributed environment. This style is applicable in a B2B environment where the need is to have a central platform for master data creation for new systems and the existing sources are either in the process of migration or cannot be migrated. In the figure, T1 is a current source that cannot be migrated to use an external master data source and T2 is a new system that can utilize an external source for master data. If the vision is to have a single source for analytical and transactional needs, this option provides a gradual transition path where applicable.
