EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST FROM COMMUNITY GROUPS
Flowerdale Primary School music festival committee is seeking expressions of interest from local community groups who would like to hold a food stall at the primary school music festival on November 19 th. We hope to provide a variety of stalls selling different types of food. Currently we are taking requests from groups who would like to sell food on the day. The festival Rockinon the Mountain is being held on November 19th from 11.30AM until 8.30 PM. We are expecting around 1500 guests. The festival is to be held at Drysdales property on the outskirts of Yea. If your group would like to sell food on the day, please reply to this email. On 25th June our youth groupies pulled on their adventurous skates and went ice skating at the Melbourne Ice house at the Docklands. It had been at least 22 years since I pulled on skates so my stomach was full of nerves. We travelled in comfort on a Dysons bus, making a lunch stop at McDonalds with 5 adults and 27 groupies. Proving themselves again, the groupies behaviour was faultless. We arrived at the Ice House, put on our skates and tried to stand up. It was at this stage where my internal dialogue began (OMG what am I doing?). Ignoring all the voices it was to the ice I went. Well the groupies took of like ducks to water and it seems its like riding a bike you dont forget. It was an awesome day and we will remember it for a long long time. Special thanks to Samm, Vicki T, Ross and Peter (Dysons).

On Saturday the 25th June the Flowerdale Junior Youth Group went ice skating at Melbourne Ice House. We left from the school at 10am. After being on the bus for nearly an hour we arrived at McDonalds where we had lunch. After our lunch we played in the playground. Driving around for another hour or so we finally arrived to the Ice House. At the Ice house we got our skates on and went on the Ice. The ice was hard when you fell but once you got the hang of it, it wasnt that hard to skate without have to hold the edge. Many thanks to the parents that helped us and Tanya and Rod for taking us.

1st Kinglake Scout Group

Scout News Over the long weekend, Bass and I organised a Patrol Activity Scout camp at Kinglake Ranges Wilderness Camp. Even though a lot of the Scouts were away for the long weekend, we had 5 Scouts attend, Ben, Tristan, Owain and of course Bass and I. Friday night everyone arrived at 7:00pm and we set up and had a game night, Saturday was a busy day, starting with bacon and eggs for breakfast before a huge game of 40/40, then the challenging high ropes course in the afternoon. We then had spaghetti bolognaise for dinner. Sunday was just as busy, with the leap of faith and the Scouts stretching their comfort zone, great job guys! Later in the day we went on a hike and roasted marshmallows in the middle of the bush. Over all it was a great camp and VERY fun! Van French. Thank you to Sean Adam and Colin French for their help with this camp. The Scouts also recently competed in the annual scout mountain bike endurance race and came first in their section. Well done to Matt, Tom, Sam and David. Venturer News The Venturers recently attended the annual four hour mountain bike endurance race at the Victorian Scout Mountain Bike Park in Officer. They had a fun day of cross country racing on the 3.5km international standard mountain bike trail. At the end of the day they had completed 12 laps and came in third out of all the Venturer teams. Coming up the Venturers have a snowboarding weekend at Mt Buller. Thinking of Joining? BEWARE Our Home and Contents Insurance was due for renewal on the 27th June. With the renewal came a Supplementary Product Disclosure Statement, which applies to new policies after the 20th March 2011 and renewal policies after the 2nd of May 2011. In this statement is a section about fire which states: We will NOT cover loss or damage caused by bushfire during any period specified in your current Certificate of Insurance und special conditions as an embargo period. Talking to the insurance company and others this means that on certain days deemed by the insurance company we would not be covered for bushfire. Consequently, we changed our insurance company. Please make sure you read Product Disclosure Statements thoroughly. This is a large and well know Insurance Company stating this. Pat Cowman

On Thursday the 16th of June a large quantity of rubbish was dumped on Moores Road near Coonans Bridge. It consisted of many feed bags of rubbish and some large electrical items. The council was phoned and to their credit promptly came to collect it, utilising valuable and scarce council resources that could be used elsewhere. These seemingly insignificant infractions all add up to increased council costs which in turn lead to further hikes in our rates. So whoever is responsible, please consider this next time you feel like you cant be bothered going to the tip. Also, it denigrates places that other people put a lot of work into preserving and improving. It can set a precedent too, and before you know it, people start thinking of an area as an unofficial dump site. Shame on you who ever dumped this, shame on you!

WILDLIFE TOUR
On Friday the 15th of July at 7.00pm we are getting together down at Coonans Bridge Reserve for a wildlife spotting exploration tour. There is a rich diversity of wildlife in this location and this night will be an opportunity to see and hear it all using some special technology such as a thermal camera with large screen display and listening devices with parabolic microphones attached for all to use. This type of equipment can detect a small mouse at more than 50 meters away in complete darkness. Trent Patten will be taking whoever would like to join in on this fun evening of discovery. The tour will go for about an hour and a half, and all you need to bring is yourself, warm clothes, a torch, and a camera if youd like. The evening is for all ages, so have dinner before you come, well meet at Coonans Bridge Reserve, near the Landcare sign just at the start of Upper King Parrot Creek Road. For those who are interested in continuing we will be heading to Picnic Point in the Southern end of Flowerdale afterwards. Tank rebates extended for bushfire-affected households Minister for Water Peter Walsh today announced the extension of the rainwater tank grant scheme for bushfire-affected households. Visiting Kinglake today, Mr Walsh said the scheme provided grants of up to $1000 for residents to purchase and install rainwater tanks as they rebuild homes destroyed in the 2009 Victorian bushfires. "More than 2100 houses were lost during the 2009 bushfires and many people are still rebuilding," Mr Walsh said. "As a part of this process, the Victorian Coalition Government is extending one-off rebates on rainwater tanks to help families rebuilding after the fires. "More than 165 households in bushfire affected areas have already received grants to purchase and install rainwater tanks. "The scheme will now be extended until June 2012 so that these grants continue to be available during the ongoing recovery process." The grants are available to residences eligible to receive a Destroyed Homes Payment through the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund for tanks which meet Australian Design Standards. Mr Walsh said the Victorian Coalition Government was committed to helping Victorians use water wisely and rainwater tanks were a great way to contribute to overall water efficiency. "Now is a great time to install a rainwater tank, with typically cooler and wetter weather starting to set in over winter." Water tank grants that are available to bushfire-affected residents include: $1000 for a tank 4000+ litres connected to all toilets and laundry; $900 for a tank 4000+ litres connected to all toilets; and $500 for a tank 2000-3999 litres connected to all toilets. "Rainwater tanks not only reduce our reliance on water from our storages, but have great environmental benefits through the capture and re-use of stormwater," Mr Walsh said. FLOWERDALE TENNIS CLUB Youth triumphs YOUTH triumphed at Flowerdale Tennis Clubs mid-week social competition grand final in chilly conditions on June 22. In an energetic game showing lots of determination and skill on both sides, the all-teenage side, the Chewbaccas, consisting of Craig and Jack Cornelissen, Jess Wendel and Sam Varano won 30 to 22, four sets to two, against the Whoop Whoops which included James Wendel, Kim Wilson, Deb Schulz and Chris Stutchbury. The Whoop Whoops were down two members on the night: Maria Wendel with a fractured leg and Jake Fish who was away on school camp. A small but enthusiastic crowd gathered to cheer on the players in the grand final - the first held on the clubs new synthetic grass courts which were officially opened last month. The season, which began in early February, has involved more than 40 players in nine teams each week. Many teams include family members. Club President, Jeannette Kamar, said that with four new courts available for play, the club hoped to expand its next mid-week social competition. With four new courts side by side, we have a great opportunity for family and friends to enjoying a healthy and fun activity together, she said. The clubs next social competition begins late August. FLOWERDALE CRICKET CLUB Club gears up for cricket EXCITEMENT is building within Flowerdale Cricket Club now that work on its new grounds is nearing completion and plans for new training facilities are well advanced. Colin Crowe, who was elected president at the clubs annual general meeting on Monday last week, said retractable nets and a new synthetic surface would be installed on the old tennis courts at the Spring Valley Recreation Reserve to provide training facilities for cricketers in time for the 2011-12 cricket season. Fencing around the oval is to be erected soon, and this will not only stop a lot of balls going into the creek and stopping play while we find them but will also allow the club to attract sponsors who can purchase signage advertising their businesses, Mr Crowe said. It will be fantastic to finally play on our home turf, which now has a good wide pitch, and we will have excellent facilities, Mr Crowe said. We hope to have a big open day soon to promote the Flowerdale Sports Club. We will have great new facilities for cricketers and we also have the fantastic new four courts for our tennis club, so we want to take every opportunity to grow the sports club for the community. Cricket training is due to begin in September and the club is looking to attract players aged 16 to 60 years for its C Grade competition. Women are welcome. The club will hold a meeting for all interested in playing or joining club activities on Monday, July 18 from 7pm at the Spring Valley Recreation Reserve pavilion. A friendly reminder to register your pet

Pet owners across the Murrindindi Shire are reminded that registration of their animals in now due. Councils Planning and Environment portfolio spokesman Cr Bob Flowers said there were more than 350 registrations outstanding. It is important people renew pet registrations as it provides Council with a record of your animals details, Cr Flowers said. Residents often telephone Council out of hours looking for their pets. People who locate stray animals also telephone Council requesting officers to pick up the wandering pet. If we have the animal registered we can look it up on our system and take immediate action to reunite it with its owners, Cr Flowers said. Of course there is also a risk that an unregistered pet that may be turned into Council could see its owner faced with significant fines. While renewal notices have been sent out to all residents who currently have animals registered on Councils system, there has been a slow take-up by some owners. We have sent a reminder to those people to do the right thing. I would encourage pet owners that do not yet have their animals registered with Council to take appropriate action to do so. By ensuring that all dogs and cats within the municipality are registered, Council is complying with the Domestic Animals Act 1994. Discounted fees apply to cats and dogs that are micro-chipped and/or are over 10 years of age. Dogs on rural properties that fall into the category of working dogs will also be registered at a discounted rate. Concession rates also apply for owners who hold an appropriate concession card. Dog and cat owners are reminded to inform Council of any changes in circumstances concerning pet ownership.
