Health promotion Model the health promotion model (HPM) proposed by Nola J.

Pender was designed to be a complementary counterpart to models of health protection. It describes the multi dimensional nature of persons as they interact within the environment to pursue health. health promotion model focuses on three areas: individual Characteristics and Experiences; Behavior-Specific cognition and affect; and Behavioral Outcomes. the health promotion model notes that each person has unique personal characteristics and experiences that affect subsequent actions. the set of variables for behavioral specific knowledge and affect have important motivational significance. The final behavioral demand is also influenced by the immediate competing demand and preferences, which can derail an intended health promoting actions. These variables can be modified through nursing actions. health promoting behavior is the desired behavioral outcome and is the end point in Health promotion model. health promoting behaviors should result in improved health, enhanced functional ability and better quality of life at all stages of development. The Health promotion model is based on different theoretical propositions that has been a basis for investigative work on health behaviors. this several propositions states that 'Persons engaging in behaviors are influenced by families, peers, and health care providers which we inherit and acquire characteristics affected by the physical and external environment affecting our beliefs, cognition, and emotion thus greater selfefficacy results in fewer barriers to attain the commitment of a plan to more likely achieve health promoting behaviors and be maintained over time. in our research, the caregiver of the severely underweight children plays a major role, for his/her inherited beliefs and practices about health and nutrition directly affects his action on how he/she feeds the child, but their may be circumstances and obstacles that may hinder him in doing such actions such as poverty, also our cognition affects our behavior, what we think is most likely to be the action we portray. His/her actions are merely based on from the actions and behaviors on what he/she grew up may it be with the persons he/she interacted with nor the environment. this model is a good basis for our research for this will be a guide in developing tools for us to determine if such aspects affect the feeding practice as well as their styles in feeding. The health promotion model covers major concepts that is a framework of our variables. it covers a lo of factors namely: personal Factors; Perceived barriers to action; Perceived self-efficacy; Activity related affect; Interpersonal Influences; Situational Influences; and Immediate competing demands and preferences. With this various factors, it covers age, gender of caregiver, self esteem, personal competence, socio economic status, real barriers to action, personal capability, activities, beliefs and norms, attitudes and situation. Age, gender and socio economic status matters most, for being a young caregiver is tough challenge, example is a teenage mom, with her having no experience is more likely to give lees attention to her child since she also wants to enjoy her teenage life. moreover, a female caregiver is likely to be more caring and focused on child-rearing practices than males. Also our resources is a good indicator if we are able to sustain the needs of a child. Example, a family having 10 kids with the mother being a housewife and blind and the father being a driver will not be able to sustain the needs thus this is a barrier for the parents to give a quality nutrition to their

children. also, the practices each caregiver grew up on is likely to pass over this to the child, for example, a tribe believing that pork is dirty, thus he/she will not feed the child pork which we know is a good source of protein. A caregiver is more likely to be affected by this factors that may hinder him/her to give the best behavior to the child for them to achieve a healthy body and mind. This are factors that we as researchers ought to consider and with the cooperation of the respondents we can derive a plan of action to address such problem and eventually achieve a health promoting behavior that aims to attain a health outcome such as optimal well-being, personal fulfillment and productive living.
