Author's Preface
Dear Reader, Welcome to the first book in the book series "Things You Won't Hear from Your Doctor". In the absence of accurate figures, the accepted estimate is that more than 90% of todays adult population suffers from gum disease at a certain level. This extraordinary figure bestows gum disease with the title of the most prevalent disease of mankind. Indeed, we do not need complicated statistics to know that the situation is catastrophic. All around us, it is rare to find a person over the age of twenty that this ailment has not affected him in some form. Gum diseases are the major cause for tooth loss in the humankind. The reasons that I started this book series with understanding gum diseases are: It is a common denominator between most people in the world, without cultural, race, social or economic barriers.

Since gum diseases evolve from an extreme violation of the energy balance, they are the easier to understand among the energetic diseases, and therefore it is the natural choice for learning about the consequences of energy imbalances. The information herein provides immediate results!

Although this book appears to deal mainly with understanding and treating the common gum problems, it is, actually the first step on a spiritual journey through a book series that will lead you to different point of view of life on this planet earth. The information in this book series will reveal the body and the mind from an alternative and clear point of view. Using this knowledge will enable you to escape the path of misery that normal people has to cope, by simple changes in your lifestyle, that will prevent afflictions and diseases for which accepted points of view and conventional science and medicine have no real answers. As you read, you will discover the idea of the energetic aspect, which is invisible to the human eye and to the human consciousness, because modern medicine and science totally disregard. Yet, it is responsible for an untold number of manifestations and issues throughout our lives, including behavior, health problems and cases of death. This balance of energy must be keep accurate and stable for our proper health and effective function. Better understanding of this aspect and how to create and keep the necessary balances within it, will enable you to use the bodys natural remarkable recovering potential, which is derived from it's pursue for wholeness.

In fact, concerning quality of life, this energetic aspect is much more significant than materialism that we are is so familiar with in our culture. Be aware that consulting with doctors or other experts regarding data contained in this series, might lead to automatic responses of contempt, rejection or even anger and hostility. The main Reason for this behavior is that the scientific establishment as well as modern-day doctors does not recognize the energetic aspect as a factor in life, and therefore they cannot accept its violation as a cause of distress or health problems. You might consider that some information in this book assault your values and sensibilities. Before getting mad at me, be aware that I have no quarrel with any doctor or scientist in particular. I wrote this book after experiencing the pain and misery of those diseases in the winter of 1993, and managing to cure myself, and realized that the health authorities are not interested in this kind of information and solution. My personal suffer motivated me to reduce this kind of suffering as much as possible, by delivering this information simply and clearly to everyone, in a way that will eradicate those diseases. If nothing else, humankind should be relieved of this unnecessary distress. To derive benefit from the information herein, you will have to rely on your own common sense. Disengage from your reliance on certified experts who may be impervious to this kind of information, molded by their professional knowledge, or have other interests in mind. Also, you need to free yourself of everything you have ever learned concerning these issues. Accepted theories, prejudice, preconceived ideas, norms, myths, and superstitions will stand in the way of understanding the truth and benefiting from the whole idea behind this book. The power of the truth is in its simplicity. Read it and feel. After reading, the choice whether to suffer from gum disease or to take responsibility to embark onto a route of natural rehabilitation will be in your hands. From my experience, people who did not acquire the information set down were not able to carry out the changes necessary for natural rehabilitation. Read the book from cover to cover if you are serious about eradicating the problem. Read it again after a couple of months to hone your insight. The information and illustrations in the book were designed to bring your awareness to the point where you will feel comfortable to give up harmful habits and make the changes in your life-style properly, with the right understanding and astuteness. In other words, you will find that you can embrace the changes and the ensuing results, without feeling that you have lost anything or given up the delights of life. After having read this book, I hope that you will discover that you belong to a type of human being, endowed with the potential for spiritual growth that help you control your own destiny by developing awareness and responsibility. Once you understand the ramifications of your life-style on your health, your insight will enable you to implement the necessary steps to save yourself from a toothless life in many aspects. Chapter 1. Introduction
In 1993 after discovering that I was suffering from severe gum disease, I had a revelation that put me on a path leading to complete cure without medical intervention. This revelation, led me to formulate the theory that gum diseases are not the result of the accepted causes -- improper hygiene or heredity -- but, rather, due to energy imbalances caused by the consumption of hot food and drink. After understanding that no mainstream establishment had an interest in researching or releasing this kind of information, I done a self-research, and in 1997, I published my first book in Hebrew, discussing my observations and ideas, and outlining a plan to eliminate the disease that most of the world population suffers from. Ever since, many people took note, and followed my footsteps. During the ten years that this book has been available in the Israeli market, I have encountered many stories and received many letters from excited readers. Following are two short samples of them:

Uncle Motti's story

It all started with a phone call to my house on the evening of September 9th, 1999. An old friend, Ron, who was familiar with my hypothesis and my book, was on the other end of the line. Youll never guess whos standing next to me! he said excitedly. Who? I asked. Do you remember Uncle Motti? Ron asked. I had met Motti, a man in his fifties, from about 15 years previously, when I used to play jazz in a small bar in my hometown. He was one of the regulars there. Of course I remember him, I said to Ron as memories from that great time flooded me. Uncle Motti is suffering from severe receding of the gums and would really like to talk to you, Ron said. I replied that I would be happy to do so - and Motti took the phone. My teeth have become so loose, that I cannot chew anything. I have been eating liquidized foods for the last eighteen months. I am totally desperate, and I am willing to do just about anything. The dentist said that there is no need to extract my teeth, as they would fall out by themselves anyway I told Motti not to give up. That very day, I brought uncle Motti a copy of my book, and explained to him what he would be getting into. I did everything I could so that he would understand the full significance of the course on which he was about to embark. Finally, I wished him good luck on this new path, hoping that he would be strong enough to join the many others whom I knew had successfully conquered this disease.

Amazingly, just nine days later, I called another friend, who is a good friend of mine and of Ron, and to whom I had not spoken for a long time. Pity I wasnt thinking about a million dollars, my friend said. I was just speaking to Ron who said that, thanks to you, Uncle Motti has started cracking nuts again. These incredible results in such a short time, demonstrate the power and the ability of the body to return to function even from situations that seem hopeless, if we only provide it with the right conditions exist). My friend went on to relate that when my name came up in conversation, Uncle Motti started singing Hes a wizard; hes a wizard; hes a wizard. Im not the wizard, I said, The wizard is the body, when given the chance to fulfill its ability to rehabilitate itself.

Ettis Letter
For many years, Etti suffered from severe gum infections. After reading this book and managing to cure herself, she wrote me this letter: "You can call it revival, waking up, first sunrise, enlightenmentThis is what Eyal is trying to pass to us, the sufferers, but blocked by the establishments. Forty years old, generally healthy, I visited the dentist after a long period of neglect; I didnt realize I would be in for such a shock. When I left the gum specialist, I was devastated and in tears at the bad news of the upcoming radical operations and multi extractions. The irony was that I was only 40, still unmarried and had never had children, looking forward to starting my life, and here, instead, I was facing toothless future, pain and huge expenses. After a number of visits to dentists and specialists, I decided to check the internet and see whether there was an alternative to this drastic treatment. Lo and behold, I found your website, on my own, without any urging by my nearest and dearest. There are not many details in the website, but the title Things You Wont Hear from Your Doctor made me curious as to what was in store. Barely a month has passed since I read the book and I started living according to its instructions. My gums are no longer deep red - but have returned to their natural and healthy color. The feelings of decay, swelling, and excessive sensitivity have all disappeared. Suddenly, after all that fear, periodontal surgery and other horrors are not in the horizon. Everything has returned to normal as if nothing had ever happened. I can now bite into an apple without worrying that a loose tooth will fall out or that I will hurt my gums. Now there are no more sores. Now my life just keeps getting better. My joie de vivre has returned, and I have become more aware of my body and its needs. I do not need to resort to aggressive treatments that line dentists pockets. The insight in your book is simple, yet amazingly effective. You have thoroughly researched the issue, and, with sensitivity and perception, found the simplest solutions possible for the most common gum problems. While conventional medicine waits in the wings with scalpels and intimidating equipment. In an era where everything has to be immediate, expensive, technological and invasive, there are only a few people on our planet, that shows a different way. They can be called angels, and you are one of them. You have made healing possible by simply becoming more aware of our bodys needs and sensitivities, and effecting changes in lifestyle to avoid conflicts within our physical selves. Your book is filled with profound ideas, which are explained for us, the laymen, simple and logically, down to the last detail, with plenty of examples, and a collection of clear illustrations.

I hope with all my heart that you will be able to pass this message on to others, as you are offering us not only gum, mouth and body therapy, but also a wider perspective on the world in which we live today. Thank you for that. Yours, Etti During more then ten years that this book has been available in the Israeli market, I have encountered many similar stories. Although I am justifiably proud of all those who have taken control of their situation, I have not included those stories here just to pat myself on the back. I brought them to encourage you to take this path, which is the only true way out of the path of these cruel and bane ailments. Back to TOC

Chapter 2. Bssic Concepts

What (and who) is behind our distorted concepts, and why...
Ever since the revelation I had in 1993, I see reality from a very different perspective from the accepted one. As a result, I find it hard sometimes impossible to have a conversation with "normal" people about essential matters. In many cases, our point of view is so much different, that even to raise my argumentations creates hostility.

The reason for this is that everyones perception of reality is built on basic concepts. In todays industrial and economic world, which is changing at a tremendous pace, there are public opinion shapers with their own interests at heart, who promote distorted concepts in order to form public opinion that will suit their goals. In many cases, these assimilated changes can go so far, that they might give positive concepts negative meaning and vice versa. The result of this mislead, is that the reality in which we live is constantly losing clarity, and our behavior becomes irrational. One example to distorted concept you can find in the term "development" or "progress" that has a positive meaning, regarding the uninhibited environment exploitation that is destructive behavior for our existence.
Another popular mislead results by distorted concept you will find in marketing sex services under the title of "love".

This behavior gives love a bad name and makes sexual exploitation legitimate. This phenomenon also has its health price, which we might deal with later in the other books to come

There are countless concepts that lost their meaning through the years, but in order to make things clear, as you read this book, from time to time, I have elucidate relevant concepts whose meaning has been lost or disrupted over time. To make sure that we are speaking the same language, Let us start with a few basic concepts:

The concept of awareness vs. the concept of consciousness Since this is a typical awareness book, let us start our journey by examining the differences between the terms consciousness" and awareness, that are often confused.

Consciousness:
We can view Consciousness, which we also call recognition, as a sort of blackboard etched with information that we absorb. We analyze and process the information, according to our individual approach to different kinds of data. The more the information is significant to us, the bigger the chance that it will be stored and processed. Otherwise, the information is deleted from our consciousness. In the basic level, our consciousness process information in a way similar to a computer, as existing or not: true or false. Either we know or we do not. The consciousness is responsible for our lifestyle and behavior. Aspects such as our consumption habits, sensations, attitude, thought patterns, hobbies, outlooks and our whole personality and the way that we refer to everything in life, is derived from the way our consciousness is shaped. For example, from the biological point aspect, we are very much like one another. Yet, while one person may be a vegan from a moral motive, another might be a cannibal. In another case, one may enjoy eating bugs and worms, while still another will starve to death if he does not get kosher food according to strict and demanding rules. These and other examples of extreme differences in behavior, depend entirely on the way we are brought up, in the way each individual's consciousness is designed. In an uninhibited economic culture, many factors struggle to form mans consciousness and behavior in a way that would serve their interests. Among them are cultural, social, educational, political, religious, traditional, and economic factors. Some of them might be harmful (e.g., tobacco and cigarettes manufacturers, drugs companies and many others) and other might want your benefit. To put it simply - throughout our daily life, our behavior is manipulated. This brainwashing actually forms what we consider as our own values and perceptions. Consider, therefore, that the values that you consider as "yours", are actually designed ed by political, financial and/or ideological motivations, that hide behind authorities and uses sophisticated systems such as education, media, and others powerful sources for building up the personality of the common man in favor of their interests. Much of this influence is delivered through aggressive advertising and sophisticated marketing campaigns that are dedicated to justifying certain truths, backed by financial powerful groups and factors that fund research, studies and

statistics to reinforce their point. In certain cases, several parties might cooperate in order to manipulate our consciousness to "normalize" the average person, for their mutual benefit. Growing up in a culture that does not spare efforts or means in educating its subjects views, beliefs, values and perceptions from the moment they are born, causes mans consciousness to become static and stiff (popularly called conservative). The more a man is educated, his attitudes and beliefs which are strengthened and reconfirmed constantly, become more set and difficult to change. Man's consciousness may become so inflexible, that sudden confronted with information conflicting with his beliefs, might cause him to undergo crises and traumas that manifest themselves in physiological phenomena such as headache, stomachache and certain psychosomatic illnesses (those we will discuss later in the series). In extreme cases, the reaction could even result in a heart attack or stroke. Be open-minded!

Awareness:
On the other hand, awareness is a term that belongs to the spiritual world, where we find the third dimension of depth. The first condition to spiritual growth is to wake up and to be able to disconnect from consciousness designers and think in a free and independent way. Normally, a person who lives in a reasonable lifestyle does not want to make significant changes. The awareness is a process that requires some kind of crisis, that starts as a person understands that something essential in his behavior is awry. This may trigger the start of a spiritual growth process. Accompanied with an ambition to increase his tendency to better understand of the essential issues, in purpose to repair damages caused by wrong behavior and to prevent further deterioration, the man can go on a new way that requires changes in the consciousness. The more the understanding of these essential issues increases, the more a man is able to implement changes in his life, in order to achieve a more complete and fulfilling life. Awareness can exist at various levels. The awareness level can increase or decrease depending on various happenings and the individual character. It is my hope that this book will lead you to an increase of awareness in all that is related to gum diseases. If you get benefit of it, you are welcome to travel much beyond in the next books in the series.

The concept of spirituality vs. the concept of mysticism

Mysticism:
Since this book is spiritual and not mystic, it is important to clarify the differences between the two concepts of spirituality and mysticism, whose borders are somewhat blurry and misunderstood. Although there is often correlation between mysticism and spirituality, it is not inevitable. Each one is a concept in its own unique meaning, and they are not necessarily bound to each other.

Mysticism is an occult doctrine. Mystic doctrines do not have a rational basis and therefore cannot be test, measure or proven with accepted scientific tools. However, we cannot ignore the fact when talented people are involved; in a great number of cases, these doctrines prove themselves miraculously. Some examples of mystic activities are witchcraft, sances, reincarnation, channeling, card reading, astrology, reading coffee grounds, crystal balls, numerology many others. Some mystics analyze lifes mysteries using tools, while others use channeling and get the information without materialistic tools. The mystic concept discusses issues such as reincarnation, heaven and hell, the evil eye and other concepts in this spirit. Normally, every religion based on both a spiritual concept that deals with questions of morality and behavior, alongside the mystic concept, which portends to look into the future, telling the believers what they can look forward to if they follow in the proper religious path or, what retribution they will receive if they do not. In the common religions, the spiritual aspect (moral values) is given by God, who is the mystic entity. God cannot be seen, comprehended or measure by scientific tools, but he can apparently reward generously for fulfilling his commandments, and punish cruelly for sins (not acting by his laws). Since he transcends the whole of creation, God is what gives the religion its power and justification. In Judaism, for example, alongside the Torah, which is the spiritual aspect, comes is the Kabala, which is a mystic doctrine. A spiritual Jewish person will devote himself to worship God and to studying the various aspects of the Torah, trying to adopt values and moral behavior that will ensure him a long and high-quality life, and also heaven in the "after-life". A mystic Jewish will devote himself to the research and study of the secrets of life and the universe through the Kabala. A person that implements both the Kabala and the Torah, combines a blend of mysticism and spirituality. This combination is not necessarily bound together, and in many cases they each can work on totally separate levels.

Spirituality:

It would seem that the reason many people tend to mix the two terms, might hide in the word spiritual, that tends to convey that a person lives in a world of spirits or daydreams; may be somewhat unrealistic, does not have his feet on the ground, or is a bit of an oddball.

In actuality, spirituality connotes the world of ethics in the sense of morals. It deals with the way we should behave from the moral aspect, in order to achieve life quality and avoid distress and suffering. A spiritual person is one who chooses to accept certain dictates, in order to live within moral boundaries, so that he can have a fulfilling life. Often, it denotes the concept of faith, whether Jewish, Christian, Moslem, Buddhist or any other faith that was inherited or chosen in order to have a fulfilling life according to his inner truth. Spiritual doctrine examine the moral aspects between a person and himself, a person and other people (social issues), and a person and his environment, as well as other relationships that might have an impact on a persons life. The aim of a spiritual doctrine is to raise the level of awareness of moral values, so that its followers will be able to avoid destructive habits and temptations sometimes comprehended as pleasures, and adopt behavior that will enable the mind and body to live with minimum harming conflicts. Honoring moral values is important for forming a reality that ensures that those who live within its framework can live a life with health, dignity, respect, and be blessed for generations to come.

The concept of medicine vs. the concept of health

Medicine:
Established medicine is an industry that supplies medical services and products. This type of medicine works exclusively with the materialistic aspect and does not recognize the energetic aspect. Doctors generally do not deal with the changes in ones lifestyle that are necessary to prevent sickness, or take time to increase the patients awareness of his destructive habits or abusive behavior. Their aim is merely to use medications and medical treatment to treat the symptoms. Get us on the road again and go on to their next patient. Often though, by using painkillers Instead of dealing with the actual reason for the pain, medical treatment shuts off the bodies message mechanism, disconnecting your consciousness from your body and allows you to keep applying pressure despite the pain. In many cases, Instead of taking a good rest that will let your body to recover, you are ignoring it and feeding it with drugs in a way that might leave you with permanent damage. We need to face it. In many senses, medicine is a murky business that makes its fortune from the peoples suffers. Only those who have studied its ways, accepted its philosophy, and trodden the path that grants the legal right to be a part of the exclusive club, may give sufferers medical services. Only a person who has been educated for years according to the worldview accepted by the establishment, is allowed to be a part of this brotherhood.

Health:
Health, on the other hand, is a state where the body is balanced and functions well on all aspects. A reasonable and responsible person should avoid damaging his body, in order to avoid suffering and dependence on medical treatments, and maintain his health in good shape as much as he can.

The most important tool to keep your health in a good state is Knowledge. The more a person understands the energies that affect his body, the more he is able to adopt behavior that will avoid conflicts and keep his health in a good condition. A man who is aware of his body's needs and its limitations can take more responsibility for his own health, and avoid deterioration and distress by living in better harmony with its needs and abilities. At workshops and lectures, I am often asked about my medical background. Where does your knowledge come from?; Are you a doctor?; What courses did you take? "What is your discipline?" or What is your degree? It would seem that the wariness, confusion and in some cases even scorn that many people have, comes from a fundamental need to get information from an authority that represents a familiar discipline, in order to accept the information as a fact that they can rely on. Most people are suspicious of anyone who does not have some type of official authorization from an established discipline. From my experience, most people were brought up to believe in modern medicine in a similar way that an orthodox person depends in a rabbi, a priest or a kadi; this is why some people may even consider this kind of information as sacrilege. To set things right, I unequivocally declare that I am not a doctor; and therefore the solutions that I offer for health problems is not medical. Furthermore, I am not involved in medicine and do not identify myself with the ways of conventional medicine. I see myself as a person who understands life from a point of view, that I call "Objective Awareness. This independent knowledge that I offer in this book series, was revealed to me in a powerful revelation, which I experienced in the winter of 1993, (see Appendix C) when I was suffering from the excruciating pain because of periodontal disease. After discovering the solution and managing to cure myself, it hit me how much suffer could be prevented if the field of medicine was interested in truth and health, and not focused in making profits out of human suffer and misery. In our economic culture, the helpless sufferers become cruelly exploited as they are used to feed the huge mechanism of the health industry. This book does not deal with medicine, but with spiritual health, which obtained by allowing the body to fulfill its natural will for completeness. This basic will is seen every day, every minute, in the way that the body fights diseases and heals wounds. To clarify the connection between health and spirituality, consider the following. In order to keep healthy, a person must be deserving of his health. A part of it is fulfilling his moral duty to refrain as much as possible from frequent injuries and accumulative damage. Exerting excessive pressure (i.e. energy) on a specific limb or tissue, even though we might find it enjoyable or consider it beneficial - or even healthy, will result in some physical damage. Even infinitesimal damage, which repeats on a daily or regular basis, cause accumulates damage that in the long term will result in the tissue erosion. Eventually, over the years, through continued inappropriate use, the limb or tissue succumbs to the onset of an ailment, and decreased ability to function. While we may engage in competitive sports, and enjoy deep massages, saunas and many other activities, if exaggerated, these become harmful. By exaggerating our demands on our body, we lose our moral right to expect the tissue to remain intact and continue functioning properly. This is when a health problem, makes a spiritual issue. After defining spirituality as the true moral doctrine and understanding the connection between morality and health, you should feel comfortable using the term spirituality when related to health, and understand how spiritual shortcomings lead to physical ailments and suffering. This book is a classic example of such a situation. By acknowledging moral aspects that are related to gum diseases, you will be able to cure the diseases through solving the associated moral conflicts.

Chapter 3. The tooth and gum challenges in Modern Culture

The humankind in the modern culture is actually investing a lot of money and means for nurturing the gum diseases. Drastic environmental changes throughout the last centuries created new norms and conditions that do not match the properties of certain body's tissues. One of the most suffering tissues from this new situation is our gum tissue, which is developing the disease in response. Since these diseases are incubating for the many years with no early signs or pain, most people are gradually getting used to changes in the gum tissue's shape and color, and not even aware of what is developing. The fact that during most of their development, until the acute stage there is no pain or dysfunction makes it very comfortable to ignore or repress. However, at a certain point, and sometimes, seemingly out of the blue, unpleasant phenomena such as pain, swollen gums, bad breath, loose teeth and other symptoms, force those poor sufferers to open their eyes. As the situation becomes intolerable, we rush to the dentist and discover that the future is bleak. At this stage, we start to become haunted by terms such as gum surgery, teeth implants and false teeth, and we must prepare ourselves for extreme damage to our pocketbook, not to mention the damage to our self-confidence and self-esteem. However, understanding and accepting the information that this book offers, gives you the power and the ability to control your future, and avoid the toothless destiny that the specialists are proclaiming.

Caries vs. gum disease

Before we get to understand gum diseases, see what affects our teeth and how to prevent loss. Both caries (cavities, tooth decay) and gum disease are responsible for the loss of teeth, but each causes it in a different way. While caries attack the tooth itself, causing it to decay, gum diseases attack the mechanisms that holds the teeth in place, causing the teeth to loosen and eventually fall out. Both caries and gum disease are a result of imbalances within the mouth, but each one evolves of a very different imbalance. While caries is a result of over-consumption of sugar, gum disease develops due to the over-consumption of energy, as will soon be explained. While caries usually attack individual teeth and can be repaired relatively easily, Gum disease usually affects large sections of the teeth at once, and the suggested medical treatment is complex, invasive, painful, expensive, and perhaps the worse of all, it is not a long-term solution. In order to help you avoid those diseases and their consequences, let us focus on each malady separately.

Caries
Our mouths are naturally homes to bacteria. Just like any living creature, bacteria produce acids as a part of their metabolism and digestion process. As long as the sugar level in the mouth is balanced, the body's mechanisms control the quantity of bacteria and cope efficiently with the amount of acid, so that no damage is done to the various tissues. Imagine a situation wherein you eat sweet foods. When the teeth become coated with sugar, the bacteria replicate enthusiastically, rapidly growing to larger numbers which produce acids in a quantity that the body cannot cope with. You

are in effect throwing a party for these ill-mannered bacteria that do not throw out the rubbish afterwards. Instead, these acids accumulate on and between your teeth. These acids oxidize the smooth enamel layer covering the tooth, slowly consuming it and forming cavities, which get larger and grow faster the more sweet foods we eat, and the more genetically sensitive we are to the acids. These cavities are a hotbed of more and more bacteria that over the years, consuming the tooth while the rot sets in. In order to continue functioning, teeth with caries usually have to be filled or capped. Remember; every time that you eat sweet foods, the acids in your mouth become imbalanced due to the overconsumption of sugars. As the relation between the bacteria to the immunological system becomes upset in favor of the bacteria, the tooth becomes more damaged, proportional to the imbalance. You can tell that your mouth is balanced, when you experience no taste. A sweet taste in your mouth means that there is an imbalance of acids caused by an excess of sugar. Now that we know that hyperglycemia (high sugar levels) in the mouth is the indirect caused to tooth decay, it is interesting to note that the same factor causes similar situation in larger organs to people whom are suffering from diabetes, when high sugar levels in the blood bolsters the bacteria that invade inner tissue through open sores. The bacteria that uses the abundance of sugar to reproduce disproportionately, consume tissues and release acids, leading to enormous damage such as necrosis, and often culminating in amputation of organs. You might find it reassuring to know, that in the same way that caries development is accelerated by the over consumption of sweets, it can be significantly halted by a balanced diet that avoids sugar-rich foods. In our modern, highly industrial lifestyle, sugar has become all-too-prevalent and attainable. Aggressive marketing, advertising and constant exposure raise the passion for sugar and sugar-laden foods and snacks. Young children, still not aware of the consequences of their behavior to their health, crave and demand sweets. It is also an easy way for us, adults, to please and reward them with candies and chocolates! The insufferable ease with which sweet foods are obtainable, makes it easy for children to use their pocket money on limitless sticky confections. The reason why caries are mostly prevalent at young age (from childhood until the twenties) is that young children are unaware of the results of their unrestrained behavior on their health. At a certain point, though, after experiencing the drillings, fillings, extractions, pain and costs, we normally become more aware of the danger of high sugar levels. That is when we develop higher self-discipline, reduced intake of sweet foodstuffs and adopt better mouth hygiene. If you are worried that your children are consuming too many sweets, refer to appendix A to read how I solved this problem with my own children.

Gum disease
One thing that we should make clear from the start is, that gum diseases are not a consequence of faulty dental hygiene. This issue discussed in the chapter of refuting the medical theories. While caries mostly affects children and young adults, periodontal (gum) disease is more prevalent from those aged twenty on. Because of the cumulative effect of habits and lifestyle, the older you get, the more likely it is that your gums are more severely affected. Gum disease that develops silently and painlessly, gradually weakening the gum tissue that supports the teeth and holds them steadily in place, causing the teeth to lose their stability. During the many years of incubation, the connective

tissue between the tooth and the gum tissue gets loosen, forming so called "periodontal pockets". As those pockets pull away towards the root, the deepen pockets become infected by bacteria. The bacterium acidic secretion penetrate through the pockets, gradually consuming the jawbones, causing the teeth to lose their grip, loosen, and eventually fall out.

Chapter 4. The Accepted Medical Reasons for Gum Diseases Or: What you DO hear from your doctor.
The most common explanations for gum disease offered by the official medical and scientific establishment create the impression that gum disease evolves because of one of the following factors or a combination: 1 Heredity

2. Tartar accumulation 3. Poor hygiene 4. Use of a hard toothbrush 5. Smoking 6 Neglect of proper dental treatment

7. Lack of vitamin C 8. Pregnancy None of these can truly explain the occurrence of gum disease or its symptoms. In fact, the connection between the factors above and gum disease is blurry and confusing. In a further chapter, I will expand on these topics and explain why, from my point of view, they are not relevant. Since the medical rationale has no true basis, remedial solutions and treatments based on these hypotheses obviously will not provide long-term relief to sufferers. In some cases, the use of the medical and hygiene products end up resulting in side effects, such as weakening of the immune system, sores due to changes in the micro-organism balances in the mouth, allergies, impairment of the sense of taste, staining of the teeth, impairment of the oral mucous membranes and other ailments.

Chapter 5. Understanding the Balance of Energy

As with many other diseases, gum disease develops because of certain imbalance within the body. Yet, unlike we use to acknowledge in many other diseases, this imbalance does not relate to substance but to energy. In this book, when we discuss energy, we talk about heat. Before we try to understand how violation of the energy balance causes diseases, I will demonstrate the energetic aspect and its violation. The light that we see is made of electro-magnetic waves. Different frequencies of waves result in different colors. The human eye can only see colors within the spectrum of light waves from red to violet. When the frequency of the waves is lower than that of the red light, the color is defined as infrared". On the other hand, waves of higher frequency than violet light are defined as ultra violet. Those two frequency ranges are not visible to the naked human eye. It is a known fact that every hot object emits light. The human body, being an object whose average temperature is 37C, and warmer than its surroundings, emits heat to the surroundings and, thus, light. This light that our body projects, is within the infrared range which we cannot see due to the limitation of the human eye. However, if you could see this lights color, how would you define it? I am sure that some would say red, orange, yellow, et cetera. Under normal conditions, since there are small differences in temperature in the periphery of the body, there will be small variations in the color radiated by different parts of it. Now, try to visualize the color that your body radiates, seconds after taking a sip of a hot drink at a temperature of 70 or 80C. It is reasonable to suppose that most of your body color will not significantly change, but our mouth will suddenly shine with a much brighter color than the rest of our body. This is the silent and unseen alert that comes from your body, when the energy balance is upset. The imbalance of energy The true reason for gum diseases Our aim is to address the topics and the remedies for those who want to prevent these diseases or make a natural recovery from them. As much as it might seem simple, it is not. It takes high level of awareness and will power to make the necessary change in habits that will enable the body to start to rehabilitate. In order to achieve this, this book will provide you with all the information needed, and empower you in your way. We will start with understanding the devastating power of the major cause.

Hot drinks and foods

This book unequivocally elucidates that the reasons for the prevalence of gum disease, which affects the majority of the worlds population, are associated with the high temperature and amount of heat found in hot food, particularly hot drinks, which we consume on a regular basis. This is directly responsible for the majority of gum diseases and their side effects.

The thought of rotten or cooked human flesh would horrify every normal person who lives in the modern culture, as we all have been brought up to revere the human body. However, consider this: Throughout the daily nourishment, most people in the world systematically cook, damage and destroy their and their familys gum tissues, while having a pleasant meal together, a habit in which they have probably devoted vast resources to enjoy. The rite of cooking and destroying gum tissue starts minutes after we open our eyes in the morning, with the first sip of a hot drink, and continues at certain contingencies throughout the day. We tend to develop typical gum diseases in accordance to our eating and drinking habits - and to the temperature at which we normally consume the food and drink. So, what is better Tea or Coffee? From the gum tissue's aspect, the type of food or drink is meaningless. It does not matter whether you drink coffee, tea, espresso, herb tea, porridge, chocolate drink, milk, punch or anything else. As long as it consumed hot, the result will be the same; the heat energy will assaults your gum tissue and cause illness. As it is important that we will start to think in terms of energy and in terms of environmental changes, since we should be aware that the real cause to gum diseases is the continual extreme energy imbalance that we cause with the consumption of hot food and beverages. This heat in the mouth creates environmental change on a scale that is unsuitable to the delicate gum tissue. In effect, these diseases started to assail the humankind, from the moment humans learned to control heat energy, exploiting it for cooking and preparing hot beverages that become source of cultural pleasure.

The price of living in an affluent culture

In the affluent culture, as you are about to learn, we are so busy with issues on the surface, that we are totally unaware to dangerous that lays underneath. In recent generations, we are witness to a sharp increase in the occurrences of gum disease, which attacks people more severely and at a younger age. The reason for this phenomenon in our so-called affluent culture, is a result of our lack of awareness to the influence that environmental changes have on the bodys various tissues in combination with the abundance of possibilities to enjoy the heat. This affluent culture has provided the conditions for this damaging lifestyle through the following: Heat energy has become cheap and available with gas and electricity.

Hot drinks and hot food have become a symbol of quality of life.

Health authorities endorsed the use of hot drinks as a relief for many health problems. By ascribing positive features to devastating elements, they are nurturing the ruinous habit.

The use of agricultural mechanization and technology, which developed at a tremendous rate during the 20th century, led to an increased production of plants and herbs used for hot drinks. This increment led to a drop in prices making these crops available to everyone.

The extensive choice of hot drinks with such a wide range of flavors and "qualities," as well as the myriad of household appliances such as percolators and espresso machines enables a person to enjoy his cup of tea in quantities and frequency sufficient to cause his body great damage. The developing populations and bureaucratic environment increased the amount of businesses and office jobs, which do not require physical exertion. Prolonged sitting every day creates an increasing need for hot drinks to heat the body, particularly during cold winter seasons. This eventually becomes a year-round habit. Just a few generations ago, before the industrial revolution, a person had to be wealthy in order to enjoy a hot drink or a hot meal several times a day. Since they were the privilege of the high society, it became a symbol of status. Leaves, beans and other ingredients for hot drinks preparation, were grown under natural conditions, susceptible to pests, diseases, and a tough weather. These ingredients were relatively expensive and not within the reach of the common person. Since heating water required a lot of work and most people were occupied in manual labor for many hours during the day, most people were not able to prepare and drink a cop of tea or coffee every hour or two, as it is nowadays While the middle and the lower class were unable to find the time and means to enjoy hot drink whilst working, people from the high class were celebrating with hot food and drink!

From this point of view, it is easy to understand the old adage:God sends nuts to those who have no teeth. The rich, people of means with plenty of time on their hands, lived a comfortable and easy lifestyle, could afford to eat many nuts which reflects what money can buy. Since hot drinks and meals represents some of lifes quality and pleasures, those blessed with affluence who had a lot of tea parties and plenty of cooked meals, were those who lost their teeth early in life from gum disease and were left with the nuts, But without teeth.

Nowadays, only four or five generations distant from that poorer lifestyle that hot drinks and hot meals considered as luxury , just like a part of the foundation, in every house is an electric kettle or coffee machine for the welfare of the family. The wide choice of herbs, the different kinds of tea coffee instant soups, porridge and other delicacy, make it easy for a person to enjoy the heat with a wide variety of tastes and textures any time he feels thirsty. Insulated containers such as thermoses or flasks designed to keep drinks piping hot for hours, enable you to enjoy that hot drink at any time and in any place you wish.

We pay the price of an unaware humanity ever since we are Babies

Another contributing factor to the prevalence of gum disease at a younger age is the meteoric decrease in breastfeeding - and the increased use in industrialized formulas over the last decades. These are arbitrarily heat and fed a whole generation of hungry babies, unaware of the tremendous significance of the accuracy of the energy which Is a necessary component of the babies growth process. Part of the reasons to this phenomena the way I see it, is so called "scientific researches" that determine that breastfeeding causes the breast to shrivel and loose its shape. Young mothers that naturally wanted to keep their attractive appearance were horrified from the finding, turned to feed their babies with industrialized formulas, to preserve the young and sexy image. It is more then likely, that milk substitute manufacturers funded those researches that did their job beyond expected, in order to gain sales. It is important to understand that along with the nutritious, the naturally balanced energy that a baby gets with his mothers milk in the exact amount, is an important to stimulate proper and healthy growth. Thus, in todays world, where the energetic aspect is suppressed and a person is already experiencing the damage to the gum tissues from the first stages of his life, The accumulated damage develops into gum disease at ages not previously Known. As children, when we are thirsty, it is only natural for us to want to drink water. As we grow up, we are exposed to sophisticated advertisements encouraging the consumption of various sugar-containing soft drinks, which are thirstquenching, colorful, sparkling and not as boring as the flavorless and colorless water. The message that is ringing is: it's better, its cool, it's tasty, and there is no problem as long as you drink liquid. Over the years, as our habits formed, we distancing ourselves from our basic need to drink the plain water, which is essential for our bodies correct functioning. The more we grow up, we get used to quenching our thirst with hot drinks, starting in the cold seasons, and later on, out of habit, also during the hot spells.

This is where we have lost the Fountain of Youth The allegory of the fountain of youth is took its place here, since healthy gums reflect a refreshing appearance and invigorated look for years to come even in old age. In contrary, damaged, distorted and sick gums, give an older appearance, are less aesthetic and less pleasant and attractive even in youth. It is ironic that this same culture that invests huge sums of money in makeup, cosmetic treatments, anti-aging preparations and plastic surgery, all of which are designed to maintain a young, aesthetic and attractive look, is the very culture which is ruining the esthetic appearance of the face, by the overuse of hot food and drink.

Look after your bones!

Teeth are an integral part of the bodys bones! Just as you would not give up other bones without doing everything to save them, I would expect that you would also do what it takes to safeguard your teeth. The tooth is divided into three parts. The exposed part called the crown; the part covered by the gum tissue called the neck; the part inside the jawbone is the root. The parts are illustrated and described in Figure 5-3. The teeth have many and varied functions. They break down food by chewing it and preparing it for swallowing and digestion. They enable us to speak clearly by pronouncing syllables correctly. We sometimes use our teeth as a cutting, mashing and gripping tool. The teeth also support some facial muscles and their presence gives us a young and natural appearance. The teeth hold an important role of how we look and relate to those around us. They have great aesthetic and psychological value, and a huge significance regarding our own self-image and the way other people regard us. We spend a great deal of energy and resources trying to maintain them.

The crown is the visible part of the tooth. Covered in a hard and strong enamel layer, its job is to provide the tooth with the required strength to carry out its various functions, and protect them. The crown is the strongest part of the human body! A clean and healthy crown is smooth and shiny.

The tooth neck is normally covered by the gum tissue, which holds the tooth steadily in place. The neck comprises tissue containing blood vessels, lymph vessels and nerve cells, which It connects the root to the crown.

The tooth neck is normally covered by the gum tissue, which holds the tooth steadily in place. The neck comprises tissue containing blood vessels, lymph vessels and nerve cells, which It connects the root to the crown. The tooth neck is covers by a specialized bony substance called cementum. It is not as strong or as shiny as the crown. When the gums recede, the tooth neck is exposed giving the teeth a long appearance.

Since the cementum is softer than the enamel that covers the crown, the tooth neck is more sensitive to attack by acids, bacteria, et ceter

The root is the part that is connected to the jawbone. This is where the tooth gets its blood supply, the nerve sensory and the metabolism elements.

The progression of a typical gum disease

The progression of gum disease is confusing. Although it is simple to understand, gum diseases are not so easy to overcome, and will power is not enough. They actually has many hidden traps connected, making it difficult to understand and deal with. This book goes into their fine details, to help you understand and overcome the obstacles on the road to natural recovery. The slow process and tiny damages caused every time we come in contact with its causes, makes it difficult to link between the causes and the symptoms. The slow changes taking place in parallel and our gradual acclimatization to the appearance of the gum tissue, lead us to think that it is normal process. The fact that the progress of the disease is not accompanied by pain (this will be clarified later), lets sufferers suppress and ignore the signs of the disease and keeps them unaware of the severity of the situation. Meanwhile, for many years, the disease put down roots and exacerbate the damage and causing other diseases.

In certain situations the sufferers are victims of lack of knowledge, while in others, the sufferers are victims of their own harmful habits and prejudice, and will not give up the hot drinks even though they know that it is the cause for their suffer. This diagram is referring to those. The curve of development and the surprise of which the collapse arrives is common to both cases. Back to TOC

Chapter 6. Gum inflammation:

Inflammation of the gums incubates for decades without warning signs that wakes our awareness of its developing. Those affected start noticing that something is not quite right, due to bleeding during tooth brushing or traces of blood on food after taking a bite. Since the incubation does not accompanied with pain or any indication that something serious is expecting along the way, those symptoms are naturally suppress. In medical terms, it is customary to classify the various levels of progressive inflammation of the gums. Each level has its own name and is dealt with different approach. The first stage is gingivitis (gingiva = gum - "itis" stands for inflammation - "itis" stands for inflammation). At this stage, there is a considerable amount of damage by harmful bacteria on the outer layer of the gum tissue. This is characterized by a slight swelling, a bright red color of the gum tissue and occasional bleeding. At this stage, the damage is only superficial, and can be easily remedied without leaving any trace. Since the inflammation is not yet extreme, most of the sufferers do not aware of its existence. During the development of the disease, periodontal pockets are formed and gradually getting deepening. Since there is no dysfunction or pain, while the sufferers are not aware of the distress, the inflammation penetrates deeper and deeper into the inner tissues, worsening progressively.

Figure 5-4. Inflamed gums. At this more advanced stages of this disease, as the damage accumulates, at a certain stage the gum tissue succumbs, the sufferer can expect to experience the second level called periodontitis. This is when the disease erupts dramatically, attacking quickly and severely, with distressing symptoms that can no longer be ignored. We come to recognize this stage, due to the unpleasant symptoms. Here is a list of typical symptoms that might attack together or by a combination, depending on the personal sensitivity and the severity of the disease. Now, the sufferers need to act quickly to find solution, due to dysfunction and unpleasant symptoms that they cannot live with. That include excruciating pain, bleeding at every touch, cysts and abscesses, bad taste and bad smell, dark and unaesthetic gum tissue, swelling of the gums, swelling of the face, sensitivity to various imbalances such as energy (heat and cold) and acids (sweet and sour), loss of tooth stability resulting in eating difficulties - and more.

This stage of the inflammation is often accompanied with and deformation of the gum tissues, that causing the teeth to lose their order and become crooked. Along with the ongoing disruption of the tissues blood flow that allow bacteria to reproduce uncontrolled, the warm liquids we imbibe, gradually dissolve the connecting tissue between the tooth neck and the gum tissue, and seep towards the jawbone. As a result, gum tissue loses its grip on the teeth, and tartar, bacteria and infections gradually penetrate deeper and deeper towards the jawbone. Tartar, which gradually accumulates in periodontal pockets, normally is a negative phenomenon, at this stage happens to be quite useful, since it acts as a type of cement that supports the teeth and keeps them in place. In many cases, removal of the tartar by dental hygienist, exposes the tooth necks to environmental factors, that cause sensitive and pain. In more extreme cases, cleaning the tartar might make the teeth wobble, or even fall out, The poor patient, who only came in for a cleaning, is now suddenly faced with the trauma of losing teeth or with tidings of the need of surgery. The acidic secretion of the inflammation causing bacteria, gradually penetrates deeper into the gum pockets, often causing caries in the tooth neck, which require complicated dental treatment. As the periodontal pockets get deeper, these secretions attack the jawbone that are using as the base of the tooth, dissolving it until the tooth loses its hold, becomes loose and eventually falls out. This situation forces sufferer to undergo complex and highly expensive treatments requiring jawbone transplants as a base for dental implants, which are installed at a later stage - after the jawbone rehabilitates. Although the bacteria are the direct cause of the inflammation, it is a fundamental mistake to think that fight the bacteria with artificial means might solve the problem. As long as the blood circulation in the gum tissue is not functioning, the immunological mechanism cannot reach the tissue and protect it. By using medicine, you are running a lost battle, since you are fighting the bacteria that are going strong, while your body is getting weak from a continual influence of the drug. All the medical preparations are designed to work on the symptoms, while the cause still works on the tissue, deepen the destruction undisturbed.

What we need in order to eliminate the threat of this disease and the harmful bacteria is, to allow the body to rehabilitate the blood vessels and function. A healthy environment is what it takes to start natural rehabilitation of the blood vessels that will allow the immunological mechanism to control the amount of bacteria efficiently. Only the body itself can do this roundthe-clock work, to maintain the balance so that the tissue can exist in a healthy state. In the case where the blood vessels in the gum tissue are continually being damaged by the heat that emits from the hot food or beverage, the body cannot rehabilitate nor control the bacteria. The blood vessel system, which carries the white blood corpuscles, the immunological system components, as well as the metabolic mechanism, all three of which are essential for sustaining the tissue, is disrupted. This indirectly affects the bodys capacity for natural protection from diseases. It is important to be aware that after many years of living with excessive heat on a daily basis, the mechanisms that help the gum tissue to cope with relatively high temperatures, succumb and lose their efficiency. This being the case, the tissue becomes so sensitive that it can effectively be considered as allergic to heat. From hereon, the introduction of artificial heat into the mouth might results in extreme and disproportionate reactions. Back to TOC

Drinking lukewarm? Dont be deceived!

Those suffering from chronic inflammation of the gums, belong to the group of people who imbibe hot drinks at relatively low and even pleasant temperatures (30-40C); mostly those who are addicted to Nescaf or tea with the addition of cold milk. To understand the sensitivity of the gum tissue to these amounts of heat, it is important to realize that although we define this temperature range as pleasant, it is still foreign to internal body tissues that need physical adoption to environmental changes. As they are not a part of our nature, they are hostile to the human body, which built from proteins and suited to an organic environment whose constant temperature is a crucial for existence. This is much more significance when it comes to internal tissues, which are naturally formulated to exist and function in a greenhouse environment with defined, accurate and a minimal range of temperatures. The internal tissues are not equipped with heat regulation mechanisms such as the sweat or hair, which exist in the outer skin tissue. This is why even temperatures which are considered warm or pleasant can cause a great amount of damage when they find their way into the mouth through hot food and drinks.

Caution regarding the amount of heat!

Based on the discussion above, we might assume that drinking tea or soup at 35C is safe; we must be aware, though, that even at this temperature, the water is storing a significant and devastating amount of heat. To demonstrate this point, you can make a simple test. If you place a mercury thermometer into your mouth, you will find that it takes a significant amount of time to raise the mercury indicator to 37C degrees, the temperature of our body. Yet, if you heat water to 37C and put the thermometer in the hot water, you will find that the mercury indicator rises within a few seconds. This fast reaction is a result of the large amount of heat energy that is stored in the water, in compare to the lower amount of energy in our body's tissues. This amount of heat works much faster on the thermometer, as well as on your gum tissue. For this reason, it is important to be aware that even food at 35C, which might seem harmless, may be destructive when it meets a tissue, especially one after trauma.

Heat energy effects on blood vessels

We can witness the enormous effect emanating from heat energy on the blood vessels found in the internal tissues, when sometimes people get nosebleeds on hot days, after slight rubbing or scratching. The external heat, is actually less violent than the lukewarm food or drink introduced into the mouth, causes tears to the gentle nasal capillaries. The hot liquids that wash over the gum tissue several times a day, causes havoc and wear and tear to the blood vessels in the gum tissue at a higher rate than the body is capable of repairing. Over the years, the damage to the delicate blood vessel network gets deeper, until, at some stage the tissue succumbs.

We are conditioned to refer to the body as a physical entity. However, the body is not just a collection of chemicals and materials. Doing so, we are ignoring the important constituent of energy that must be maintained within a narrow and exact range, in order for the body to exist and function properly. Violation of this balance leads to more diseases then you can imagine. To convey how small the range of the heat balance of the various body tissues, you will find that the gum tissue temperature (taken between the gum and the lip) is roughly 1C lower than the temperature under the tongue. The blood vessels here are naturally forming an internal ambiance at a constant temperature, that is regulated by the efficient control of the nervous system in conjugation with the cardio-vascular system. Together, they regulate the blood flow and the metabolism that both accurately produce the precisely required energy. Since water has high heat conservation properties, hot drinks, even when sipped at a "warm" 35C and lower than body temperature, assault the blood vessels in the gum tissue and cause them obvious distress. Be aware that being the bodys conveyor system, a blood system that functions properly, is the most important stipulation for a healthy existence and proper functioning of every bodys tissues and limbs. The body sustains all its tissues and cells by means of the blood vessel system and blood flow, through which all the substances necessary for their existence are conveyed. The blood in our arteries carries blood corpuscles, oxygen, antibodies, hormones, vitamins, minerals, nutrients and essential components for metabolism to all our cells and tissues. Another component that we are normally conditioned to disregard, (when doing blood test for instance), is the heat to maintain the energy balance, which is no less significant than the other components. The veins are blood vessels that transport waste and "used" materials from the various body cells and tissues; need to function properly to avoid accumulating infection. In addition to damaging the defense, maintenance and rehabilitative capabilities of the tissues, the waste that is not removed from the cells by the damaged blood flow accumulates in the gum tissue causing infection and creating a foundation for diseases. Frequent heat abuse to the gum tissue, damages the blood vessels, thus preventing the blood transport system from operating at the required level for maintaining healthy tissues. Millions of bacteria constantly live in our mouths. This is not a horror movie. During the evolution our body learned to live with it - and he does is not bad under natural conditions. A healthy body with well-balanced systems is able to maintain bacterial harmony. The problem begins when the conditions are changing. When heat attacks occasionally the gum tissue, the regulating and balancing systems do not function properly there is nothing to stop the bacteria from erupting, upsetting the balance and causing disease. Back to TOC In our daily behavior, there are a number of factors that actually encourage the harmful reproduction of bacteria and the evolution of gum infection, thus contributing to the inflammation developing in the gum tissue, by providing the bacteria with the improved living conditions and an ideal environment for generating inflammation. 1. The damage caused to the blood vessels by the volume of heat disrupts the proper functioning of the immunological mechanism and impairs the metabolism and waste removal essential to preventing the disproportionate reproduction of bacteria and accumulation of infection. 2. As the disease progresses, gum pockets which are gradually formed provides a port of entry for the bacteria and infection deep within the tooth necks. (See Periodontal Pockets, Chapter 7.) 3. Tartar that accumulates on the tooth and tooth neck, supplies an ideal environment for the plaque bacteria, which are associated with gum disease. (See Tartar, Chapter 13) 4. Food remnants and sugars penetrate the gum pockets, supplying the bacteria with a bed of rich nutrients. 5. When we sip a drink which is around 35-40C, the temperature and humidity conditions in the mouth provide the bacteria an ideal environment for reproduction, as with an artificial incubator. We are also giving them a hot bath. With all this Luxury, All it needs is a guard on duty in the lobby

Important; this book deals with the understanding and healing of the gum diseases which affect the majority of the population. However, it is important to realize that in certain cases, gum disease may be causes by other factors, such as impacted tooth - or dental crown. Dental crown, which is attached too tight to the base of the tooth, puts excessive pressure on the gum tissues, affected blood supply to that area, enabling bacteria to reproduce undisturbed, causing an infection, which is defined as an inflammation with symptoms similar to those of heat-caused inflammation

If you think that you do not belong to the group to which this book refers, it is to your benefitto have yourself checked in order to find the source of the inflammation.

Chapter 7. Gum Pockets

Gum pockets (also known as periodontal pockets) are gaps that appear between the gum tissue and the tooth neck. They are formed alongside the progressive development of gum disease. The worse the gum disease gets, the deeper these pockets go and become more open to infection, tartar and bacteria. Since periodontal pockets are associated with receding gums and inflammation of the gums, I will expand on their development as an integral part of the symptoms resulting from the consumption hot drink. It will be easier to understand the formation process of these pockets if we think of our teeth as part of the body bones, and compare the phenomenon to a parallel phenomenon we are familiar with from our daily lives. If we try separating the bone from a piece of fresh meat, we will discover that it is not a simple task. The two tissues will not separate easily, and we will have to use a lot of force to separate them from one another. However, if we put the meet in hot water for an hour, or exposing it to similar heat in a different way, we will find that the meat tissue separates very easily from the bone. In fact, the heat energy we supplied stripped the bond between the meat and the bone tissue. The more we cook the meat, that is to say, the more we bombard it with a larger amount of energy, the more the tissue disintegrates, enabling the meat to separate from the bone easily. The same thing happens to our poor gums when we absorb a lot of heat at high temperatures several times a day. The hot liquid trickles between the gum tissue and the cementum, dutifully going about its destructive work disintegrating the connection, until a gap, medically known as a periodontal pocket, forms. The more we consume hot beverages over the years, the more these pockets deepen. In a healthy environment, gum tissue will stay attached to the tooths root just like any other tissue attached to bone in our bodies. It is the heat energy emanating from hot food and liquids over the years, which slowly, efficiently, painlessly and possibly pleasurably, engages in separating the tissue. From my own experience and from that of participants in the research group, I can assure you that a total halt to consuming hot foods or beverages will slowly but surely, bring about the elimination of periodontal pockets.

Chapter 8. Receding gum disease

Like your food hot? People suffering from receding gums are usually those who are addicted to beverages that are typically consumed at high temperatures, such as black coffee, infusions, hot tea and hot soups. These do not belong to the circle who enjoy cooler drinks (instant coffee, tea with milk, et cetera). Perhaps the phenomenon that keeps us from understanding the process of receding of the gums, is the fact most materials in our environment (gases, solids and liquids), expand as temperatures rises. This well-known physical quality is taken into account in many industrial processes and is used in various tools and appliances in our daily lives, such as the common thermometer and bi-metal mechanisms. To understand the process by which gum tissue recedes, we have to be aware of an unusual occurrence, which we all come across in our daily lives. When meat is exposed to high temperatures, it shrinks! Anyone who has some experience in the kitchen, knows that when steak, chicken, hamburger, or any other type of meat, is cooked, it shrinks considerably. The reason for this is that healthy tissue cells contain a high percentage of water, which carries out various functions. One of these functions is to provide internal cell pressure to maintain the volume and original shape of the cell, rather like a balloon that keeps its shape when filled with air or liquid. When we heat meat, the water in the cell expands. Some of this expanding water is forced out of the cells and the tissue loses fluids. When the tissue cools down, it dries out and shrinks slightly. Each time the gum tissues come into contact with the excessive heat, it causes some of the cells to lose a small amount of fluid, to dry up and shrivel, in a way not dissimilar to meat being cooked. As with any ailment, the body is constantly trying to repair the damages that are made to the gum tissue. The deterioration process accumulates because the intake of hot foods and drinks occur at a regularity that does not give the body enough time to rehabilitate itself. This is how, from sip to sip, cup to cup, and day to day, the accumulated shrinkage becomes significant and perceptible until we are hit by reality, and notice that our teeth are no longer normal.

In effect, while eating and drinking foods at high temperatures, we are reveling in the cooking of our gum tissue!
An interesting fact is that a significant part of the pleasure of drinking or eating at high temperature, derives from the feeling of shrinkage emanating from the slight contraction of our gum tissue, when it is exposed to the heat. The reason that people who are drinking hot beverages are getting used to the change in their gum tissue, is that over the years they gradually learn to feel comfortable with it and identify it as normal. From now on, every time that the shrunken tissue heals a bit, it sends a craving sensation to the consciousness, to return the situation to what the body identifies as normal. This is why people with receding gums feel a great craving to drink another cup every few hours. This acts as a most difficult to overcome addiction.

Over time, we are getting deeper into a destructive equation. As we are growing old and tolerate higher temperature, the gum tissue becomes weaker, the damage from every sip or cup of hot drink is greater, and the body's ability to recover reduces. When the gum tissue has receded about halfway down the root, the continual shrinking does not leave the tooth enough supportive tissue. This is when another serious result occurs. The totally weakened gum tissue can no longer fulfill its task to stabilize and support the teeth, and they start to lose their stability. As a result, even well maintained, clean, treated and healthy teeth begin to wobble.

This stage does not last very long and usually culminates with a frantic run to the periodontist, desperate for help. Since we are afraid of losing our functioning, before we can grasp what is happening, we undergo gum surgery or even teeth extraction. Embarrassing false teeth, plates, dental bridges, or dental implants will follow this.

The Progress of Receding Gums

Receding gums is a disease that impairs functionality and results from accumulated damage over many years. The wearing away of the gums usually starts during adolescence, when we increase the consumption of food and drink at relatively high temperatures. The following pictures show and describe the stages of the disease.

figure 6.1

1. During the initial stages, which might start at a relatively young age for those who develop tendency to eat and drink at hot temperatures, with the increased intake of hot food and drink, a slight puffiness and lighter color of the gums becomes noticeable. At this stage, physical changes are still not visible and the root is still covered.

Figure 6-2. The deterioration becomes noticeable. During the next stages, the burns caused by incessant attacks of heat make the gum tissue dry out and shrink. Even though each time we consume something hot, the effect is imperceptible, the constant repetition of hot food and drink leaves behind a trail of shrinkage and receding gums that starts to become noticeable and visible. The tissue, which under healthy conditions would cover the spaces between the teeth, gradually recedes, exposing these spaces. It is possible to see the shrunken tissue, shiny and swollen where it is compressed around the roots, which are gradually exposed.

Figure 6-3. Tissues start shrinking.

With the increment in hot drinks, the gums further recede, making the teeth look longer. Due to the loss of tissue, spaces are formed between the roots that are exposed - and particularly in thelower jaw, which absorbs a larger amount of heat. Leftover food and tartar get stuck in these spaces, meaning that from now on, after eating, we will start making those sucking noises or reach for toothpicks or other dental aids to get rid of this nuisance.

Figure 6-4. Totally torn.

As the gum tissue shrinks, it stretches more and more around the roots. At a certain point, when the tissue reaches the limit of its elasticity, the increasing stress and pressure cause bleeding tears to appear, particularly at the middle of the root, which is under higher pressure.

Figure 6-4. Loose and misshapen teeth. The gum tissue becomes deformed, causing the teeth to lose their alignment Because we are not able to swallow liquids as hot as we are able to sip, during quick coffee break, many people develop a habit of keeping the hot food or drink in their mouths until it cools (often accompanied by panting), and only then do they swallow. This tendency cooks the exposed tissue - causing it to dry out and recede until it reaches the jawbone. This leaves the teeth around the places where teeth are missing, with no support. With the loss of some teeth, consuming hot food and beverages cause the adjacent teeth to lose their support and begin to lean into the empty spaces next to them, slowly but surely changing the contour of the mouth.

Figure 6-6. Cavities form in the tooth neck due to receding gums Bacteria within the mouth get their nourishment from food particles there, particularly sugars, which is their fast food. The bacteria accumulate on the tartar deposits found on the tooth and roots, forming a plaque layer and reproduce in a rate related to the sugar level in the mouth. The acids that they secrete as their waste product eats away at the cementum that covers the root, causing caries in the root, just like it causes caries in the tooth enamel.

The difference is the cavity in the tooth neck is deeper, and requires more complicate treatment.

As it is much softer and more vulnerable than the durable enamel covering the crown, the cementum is damaged much more easily, and cracks and caries are created that lead to the eventual decomposition of the root. These cracks and caries also provide nesting and breeding places for more bacteria, burying themselves in the root, and work their way deeper and deeper as their acids eat away at more cementum.

Once the root is exposed, it is advisable to reduce the consumption of sweet foods to a minimum so as to avoid sugar imbalance that accelerates the onset of caries in the root. Soft drinks and other acid-containing beverages should also be reduced, as their acids easily attack the cementum and you will end up in the dentists chair for more complicated and demanding treatments.

Dental bridges, crowns and all the rest

Figure 6-7. Black gaps between the crowns and the gums. Receding gum tissue affects dental bridges, dental implants, crowns, false teeth and any other prosthetic devices you may have. As the tissue shrinks, and becomes deformed, it changes shape under, and around the structures. When the dental crowns are attached to the base of the natural tooth, they are sealed to prevent infection and bacteria from penetrating and reaching the actual tooth. When the gum tissue recedes and moves further away from the crown towards the jawbone, a crack forms, exposing the base of the tooth under the crown.

The soft and sensitive tooth pulp provides an ideal environment for the caries bacteria and, together with leftover food and sugar that penetrate the cracks, provide them with a rich and attractive residence. Since regular tooth brushing does not usually reach these cracks, the bacteria live a protected life, rendering damage unhindered and decomposing the tooth base under the crown, culminating in the destruction of the tooth and the need of medical assistance. Once the base of the tooth can no longer sustain the crown, we are forced to undergo a more complicated and demanding treatment, such as implants or tooth filing for installing dental bridges. You can check for yourself if the natural tooth underneath the crown infected by caries. Take some dental floss and pass it through the crack between the crown and the root. If you feel the taste and the unpleasant smell, then the tooth is already sick. It is possible to prevent further damage, by asking your dentist to x-ray your tooth to corroborate your diagnosis. If there is a problem, your dentist should remove the crown, clean and fill the holes, and fit a new crown suited to the new shape of the tooth and gums.

Regarding false teeth (dentures), as the gum tissue continues to shrink and become distorted; the change in its appearance will cause the false teeth to lose their fit, making them uncomfortable and unaesthetic-looking, hindering natural speech and providing a hiding place for leftover food, bacteria and other infections. Laughing with false teeth is like running in open-backed clogs that do not exactly fit your feet. As it becomes inefficient and annoying, every several years most people need to replace dentures or to adjusting the prosthesis to the new shape of the gums. The price for fitting new false teeth, repeated treatments and surgical procedures is very costly in terms of both suffering and outlay. Back to TOC

Over exposure to Over heat Over time

A questionnaire that I composed and distributed to a group of people suffering from gum diseases, discovered a common denominator that suited the assumption of this prognosis: the consumption of at least five hot beverages every day. It should be mentioned that this does not include hot soups or meals that were also a substantial part of their daily diet. We can understand the inferno our mouth goes through, by envisaging the damage caused over a long period. Based on an average of five cups a day , the gum tissue has to cope with the burns from 150 hot drinks a month. Over one year, this consumption gets to a staggering amounts of 1,800 hot drinks. Based on a rough estimation that a single cup of hot drink can cause the gum tissue to shrink about one thousandth of a millimeter, over a year your gums will recede by a rate of approximately two millimeters. Actually, we owe the fact that the recession occurs on a much smaller scale, to the body's constant efforts to rehabilitate itself. Assuming that every cup of hot drink takes about 10 minutes to drink, by drinking five cups a day, we expose our gum tissue to excessive heat for about 50 minutes every day. In one month, that adds up to 25 hours and over one year, we get about 300 hours of inferno with which the average persons gum tissue is forced to cope. If we take into account, that the heat is actually retained in the tissue for about 30 minutes for each cup, then those 300 hours triple. Do you really think that your body can cope with it without getting damaged???

same piece of meat on the same plate, after one minute in boiling water These days, most adults are obsessively fostering their gum diseases by indulging themselves with hot drinks as the main source of liquid for their body; when you are thirsty, instead of drinking thirst-quenching water being the natural requirement of the body, we press that little red button and wait for the kettle to boil. We should pay attention to the shocking fact that by consuming five hot drinks on average per day, amounts to about 1,800 cups per year., Besides the heat damage, we challenge our body even further with about 1,800 tea bags or teaspoons of coffee, as well as about 3,000 teaspoons of sugar or, even worse, artificial sweeteners. Suffice it to say that consumption at this level is bad for your health as it creates a totally unnecessary burden on the bodys mechanisms. Once you have become aware of the enormous damage caused by the hot drink, how can you possibly have pleasure from it? Back to TOC

The pain begins

As the process continues, the gums recede farther and farther. Once the roots become exposed, the next stage of the disease takes place. At this stage, the nerve cells in the roots send a sharp warning sensation of pain whenever it is exposed to elements that belong to the outer world, such as extreme temperatures or substances (sweet or sour). This pain alerts us of unsuitable conditions that are upsetting the balance in the internal environment. It is now impossible to ignore the disease because of the growing difficulties to eat that imbalance the mouth acids. Even the trivial task of breathing through the mouth onto the exposed nerves sets off shooting, unbearable pain due to the cold air. Due to the pain, the sufferer can no longer enjoy putting in his mouth anything that is higher then the body's temperature.

Unaware to the factors and the process, many people who have already reached this stage will automatically turn to painkillers. These medications paralyze the body warning mechanism, as they are silencing the distress message that our body is trying to deliver to the consciousness. By numbing the natural warning, these medications indirectly intensify the damage, as they allow us to continue to subject the gums to more and more abuse. At this point, gum surgery is also used as a treatment to eliminate the pain, by surgically re-covering the nerves in the roots. However, it is important to be aware that despite of the huge cost and the pain involves in this procedure, the operation does not stop the energy that works on the tissue, and the evolving damage to the gums continues.

If you do not choose to give up the dubious pleasure of boiling or heating your gums while your gums are still in good condition, at a certain stage, your body will force you to change your ways. This being the case, it is considerably wiser to take responsibility and make the required changes while you steel having a healthy and functioning gum tissue, before the situation becomes acute and require more complicate, intrusive and expensive treatment.

The next barrier to collapse the jawbone

You should realize that gum disease does not stop here. In fact, they are a sort of bottomless pit. If you do not adopt the way this book suggests in order to stop the deterioration up to this point, the next asset that you will learn about the hard way, is the jawbone. The acids produced by the bacteria penetrate through the periodontal pockets, eventually work the way down to the jawbone and over years slowly dissolve it without pain or noticeable sign. At the stage when there is not enough bone hold your teeth in place, they wooble and fall. Worse then this is the fact the in many cases there is no sufficient jawbone left to install dental implants. The poor sufferer needs to have a jawbone implant first. Assuming that it succeeds, the dental implants can later be installed. In this case, cost is not only an arm and a leg but also a kidney and maybe a lung too! From stage to stage, the situation gets worse and worse, and requires medical treatments, which are more painful, more expensive and more complex than what previously experienced.

Variables in the progress of the disease

The actual amount that an individuals gums recede over the years depends on a number of variables. 1. The age when a person began consuming hot food and drinks. 2. The sensitivity to or tolerance of heat damage 3. The bodys natural resiliency (ability to recover). 4. The quantity of hot food and drink and the time differences between each attack*, according to each persons schedule and eating and drinking habits. 5. The temperature of the food and drink intake, according to each persons eating and drinking habits. 6. Specific periods when hot drink consumption increases, such as when we are under pressure at work or undergoing crises, and we look for comfort or need to unwind. 7. The present stage of the disease. As already mentioned, during the initial stages, the disease progresses is slower, because healthy gum tissue is able to rehabilitate itself relatively easily. The more that the tissue is damaged and its blood flow is upset, the natural rehabilitative process becomes less effective, and each new attack causes greater damage. 8. The age of the sufferer: The older a person is, the slower the rehabilitation works. Since the combination of the variables is individual for each case, it is impossible to define a development curve common to all.

* I use the term attack to describe the daily routines that are involved in the exposure of the mouth to high temperatures and radiating heat to the gum tissues. This might express in every beverage or hot food which you consume when the temperature is higher than the gum tissue.

Heat retention
Every substance has its heat retention properties; since gum tissue contains high percentage of water, it has a substantial ability to retain heat. Being an efficient heat absorber, with each sip taken from a hot drink, the mouths temperature rises and stays high for a long time. From this point until its temperature returns to normal, a significant amount of drying up and shriveling occurs. To feel the heat that your gums was retained in, simply blow on your hand thirty seconds after taking a sip of hot coffee or other beverage. I am sure that you will understand what it is all about. In fact, it is exactly due to this reason that doctors recommend waiting half an hour after drinking or eating anything hot, before taking ones temperature.

The swallowing mechanism

Swallowing food or liquids activates the uvula and the epiglottis. These organs, which form part of the soft palate, act automatically to guide the air we breathe through the trachea to the lungs, and food and liquids via the esophagus to the stomach. The purpose of these mechanisms is to prevent suffocation resulting from food or liquids entering the lungs and, at the same time, to prevent air reaching the stomach via the esophagus. Each time we swallow food, liquids or even saliva, the epiglottis closes the trachea to bar entry to the lungs. Precisely afterwards, the uvula starts pushing the food, liquids and saliva down the esophagus to the stomach. The epiglottis then goes back to its normal position and breathing recommences. During the time necessary to perform the mechanical process of changing from breathing to swallowing (when the epiglottis shutters the trachea), the hot drinks we consume have time to cook our gums and cover the teeth and tooth neck with tartar.

Chapter 9. The Circles of Suffering

The rationale for dividing the different diseases into separate ranges:

By now, I hope that you can see that it is entirely rational to accept the fact that gum disease is a result of exposing our gums to the ravages of excessive heat. An interesting observation is that in an accurate way, the temperature dictates the disease. There appears to be an accurate division of the type of gum diseases according to the habits of the person, regarding the temperature of the consumed foods or beverages. a) People who usually consume hot food and drink at high temperatures tend to suffer from receding gums. The majority of these do not suffer from inflammation of the gums. b) People who usually consume hot food and drink at relatively low temperatures tend to suffer from inflammation of the gums. The majority of these do not suffer from receding gums. c) People who consume their hot food and drink at relatively moderate temperatures (in the overlapping temperature range) will almost certainly suffer from inflammation of the gums. However, the more sensitive they are to receding gums (drying out and loss of fluids), the greater the chances that these people will also suffer from both inflammation of the gums and receding gums at the same time.

Upper circle; Gum recession.

People who only enjoy their coffee or tea when it is steaming and their foods when piping hot, are the typical victims of gum recession. These individuals are the ones who are always sending their dinners back to for reheating, even if only a minute has passed between the end of the cooking and the time served at the table. These people that typically consume food and beverages at high temperatures of 45-80C, suffering from receding gums as a result of the gum tissue shrinkage due to over-cooking. These people do not suffer from inflammation of the gums, because the constant heat and the extreme conditions found in the mouth, assaults the mouth several times a day, every day, destroys them, make it impossible for the inflammationcausing bacteria to form the inflammation. Since these people need to feel the tension in the gum tissue as part of the pleasure derived from the food or beverage, those people do not consume lukewarm drink and food.

Lower circle; Gum inflammation.

Those who enjoy foods in the lower, lukewarm temperature range (30-45C), are the typical victims of inflammation of the gums - but do not suffer from receding gums. The reason for this is because the temperatures at which they are used to eating or drinking cause constant destruction of the blood vessels, yet, consuming foods or beverages at very high

temperatures is out of the question for these individuals, due to the extreme sensitivity of the inflamed tissue, and the ensuing unbearable pain in response to heat.

The combination; double impact.

The third group consists of people who suffer from both receding gums and inflammation of the gums at the some time. Although this combination is not as prevalent as each malady separately, People in this category are those who consume their food and beverages at a temperature in the area of overlap between the two ranges (high range of the inflammation of the gum), who have high tendency to suffer from receding gums. Also, while we might suffer from receding gums where the gum tissue come into direct contact with heat, in areas that are not exposed to such high temperatures, gum tissue is less affected by receding of the gums but might be affected by inflammation. Below is an illustration of the temperature ranges.

Antoine van Leeuwenhoek, the pioneers of microscopy, described the damage caused to bacteria from the heat of a hot drink in an experiment he carried out in Holland in 1683. During an experiment carried out by van Leeuwenhoek, he took a raindrop and added matter that had accumulated between his teeth. In a letter describing this experiment and its results, he wrote: *I was astounded to see a large number of small creatures moving around in this matter, some darting around in the water at an amazing speed, others swiveled and others moved at their ease close to each other until they resembled a swarm of mosquitoes or flies. On another occasion, van Leeuwenhoek studied the matter that he extracted from his front teeth as soon as he had finished drinking a large quantity of very hot coffee. When he looked through the lens, he was surprised to discover inanimate corpuscles. He repeated the experiment with matter from his back teeth and discovered that the tiny bacteria were moving around normally. He then reached the conclusion that the direct contact with hot coffee destroyed the tiny creatures. [1] If we take this insight a step further, we should figure is that just like bacteria which are made of protein, our gum tissue cells, which are also organisms made of protein, are unable to subsist under the conditions of extreme heat that accumulate

in the mouth while we drink a hot beverage. We can infer that from being exposed to those extreme temperatures we are damaged in a similar way.

Beware a trap!
After I conceived the true reason for gum disease, I tested my theory on a group of people who suffered from various forms of gum disease. In certain cases, I was surprised to discover an unexpected behavior that appeared during the followup of the research group. People who had suffered from receding gums but had never suffered from bleeding or inflammation, started to experience severe bleeding after they stopped eating and drinking at high temperatures. Because you might find yourself in the same situation, I will explain the phenomenon. I am sure that you will find the explanation below entirely natural, logical and reassuring. As long as we continue eating and drinking at high temperatures, the hot liquid damages the blood vessels and the disables the functionality of the immunological system. However, at the same time the heat destroys the bacteria and prevents them from reproducing and causing inflammation. Although the damaged blood vessels are not capable of supplying the required protection to the tissue, the intake of heat balances the population of bacteria in our mouths. From the moment we become aware of the harmful effects of hot foods, and change our lifestyle to cease eating or drinking foods above an average room temperature, the blood vessels start to rehabilitate and the blood flow gradually renewed to the gum tissue. However, until the blood flow is repaired, the immunological system does yet function efficiently. During this time, the bacteria take advantage of the conditions in the mouth, and reproducing undisturbed. This causes the sudden appearance of infection. Once the proper blood system in the gum tissue is renewed, the blood flow in the gum tissue will be able to withstand the excess bacteria at a sufficient level and the inflammation will naturally go away. This process can take anything from few days up to a few weeks, depending on the amount of damage done and the speed of rehabilitation, which is individual for each person. During this intermediate period, to speed up the healing process, it is essential to avoid exposing the gum tissue to any unnatural heat, avoid sweets and keep your mouth clean. The faster the blood vessels are renewed, the faster the immunological system and metabolism returns to normal, and the gum tissue will have its natural protection and will return to function. Chapter 10. Other Manifestations of Consuming Hot Foods Crumbling teeth

An untold number of natural and industrial processes are based on temperature changes and the effects of heat energy. Heating and cooling can cause, accelerate or retard many chemical reactions, physical phenomena, biological and other processes. Variations in temperature lead to changes in the density, volume, pressure and behavior of materials and determine the physical state of any material. It is no secret that without the amazingly accurate amounts of the heat energy from the sun, the whole planet earth would not exist as an integrated, live, organic entity. From viewing the world around us, we can see that even relatively small changes in temperature can, over time, carve out complex geological formations. Just as water and temperature changes can erode landscapes of rocks, hills and canyons, so can extreme changes of temperature in the mouth erode the physical strength of the tooth and cause it to crumble. Although we tend to see our teeth as relatively strong organs, we must not ignore the fact that nature designed the teeth to function in a natural environment where a greenhouse-like condition is an essential characteristic. In order to maintain their qualities and structure the teeth, there should be a constant, exact temperature range, which rarely fluctuates by more then three or four degrees. When heat energy stored in hot food and drink attacks the mouth frequently, sensitive teeth will be damaged, eventually disintegrating and crumbling. If your teeth are sensitive, you should take steps that will avoid disaster, by eliminating these hostile conditions. Furthermore, let us not forget that since our body is not designed to withstand those amounts of heat, at a certain level everyone would be considered as sensitive. It is only a matter of time until the system collapses. Other factor that should be considered is the various acids in the foods that play a role in the breakdown and disintegration of teeth. The acids found in abundance in soft drinks, sweets and other industrialized modern, processed and pre-prepared foods, eat away the enamel layer covering the crown of the tooth and attack the cementum protecting the root, causing accumulated damage and gradual erosion. Add this to the extreme temperature changes, crossed with certain genetic make-ups, and the teeth will crumble at an accelerated pace. Back to TOC

Deterioration of the fillings

Extreme temperature changes, not only cause the tooth to expand and contract, but also have similar effect on the fillings themselves.

However, since every type of substance has a different expansion coefficient, a destructive equation is occurring between the tooth and the filling that results in an effect similar to bi-metal strips. Over many years of consuming hot food and drink, with the changes in density and volume involved, these substances become fatigued and tiny cracks appears between the fillings and the tooth material. Carries often appear in these cracks, which get wider and deeper over time. It is no wonder that fillings do not last forever. Dentists usually recommend renewing them every few years. You cannot do this procedure too many times though; since each time a filling needs to be replaced, the dentist must dismantle the structure and clean away any matter left by the old filling and infected by carries, thereby eroding another layer from the tooth wall, which, by definition, is gradually disappearing. Avoiding extreme temperatures in the mouth will prevent substance fatigue of the fillings and lengthen their lives significantly, and you will save yourself a lot of time, pain and money. Hot drinks: the real cause of yellow teeth

Even if we have inherited good genes that allow us to enjoy hot drinks without suffering from gum disease, these drinks will still have a ruinous impact on the way we look. As we are a part of an aesthetic culture that spends a fortune on teeth whitening treatments, it is important to realize that drinking hot tea or coffee is the main reasons of yellow teeth. This is how the formula works: Both coffee and tea contain pigments that can also color surfaces with which they come into contact. The enamel molecules expand in the heat, allowing the pigments to penetrate deeper into the tooth and to become an integral part of it. Higher temperatures cause a more extreme reaction we get, and a better dye job and rich deep color. Thus, Yellow teeth are the mark of Cain for those who drink at high temperature at which they enjoy their beverages. The higher the temperature you drink - the yellow your teeth will get and the more permanent the discoloration becomes. Back to TOC

Chapter 11. How Damage Develops Without Us Notice

Pain is a protective warning signal whose purpose is to act as an alert mechanism. It would seem reasonable to assume that if something causes damage to our body, it would activate the pain mechanism. Pouring a hot liquid at 70 or 80C onto living flesh, seem to be something that should cause us pain. This being the case, how can we drink hot beverages and why does the crucial mechanism fail?

The fact is that we have efficiently killed off our bodys messaging ability to relate the feeling of pain to us. In order to understand this, we need to know how pain works. Our body contains a network of nerve cells, which are extensions of the central nervous system (the brain). There are different types of nerve cells that serve a wide variety of functions. Since we are talking about the feeling of pain or pleasure, we will discuss the sensory cells. Those cells that constitute the alarm system of the body, protects us from physical damage. In order for us to become aware of a specific sensation, it has to be strong enough to cross the sensation threshold. Below this threshold, the sensory nerve cells do not react to the stimulus. Once the sensation is strong enough to cross the sensation threshold, the sensory cells pass messages from the relevant tissues to the brain about the pressure and various properties of the energy that is acting on the relevant body tissues. These sensors enable us to distinguish between positive and negative energies, so that we may safeguard ourselves from harmful energies avoiding those that cause discomfort and pain, while reinforcing those contributing to our feeling of well-being, which are contributing to our better health. Each sensation is perceived at a level that depends on the intensity of the energy level that the stimulus supplies, and the person's sensitivity to the stimulus. Once the sensation passes a certain threshold it reaches a level that is uncomfortable for us to tolerate, called the pain threshold". From this level on, we need to beware if we want to prevent physical damage. For example, lying in one position for an extended period will cause pressure sores, aggravated joints, blood flow problems and other physiological damage. These are all results of the constant pressure that the body's weight applies on specific areas over time. In order to prevent damage to the tissues that are affected by the energy, at every stage of pressure, the sensory cells in the area under pressure, send appropriate messages to the brain. A sensation that begins as slight discomfort turns into pressure, which gradually grows into pain, and which gets stronger and more unbearable until, at a certain point, it forces us to react by changing our position. Alertness and reaction to these sensations when they first appear will prevent accumulated damage to the numerous tissues of the body. Alternatively, lack of attention to these sensations or ignoring them, will encourage accumulative damage, which will eventually result in damage, chronic pain and loss of functionality. What makes it problematic is that each person has a different interpretation of the sensations. Each person response differently to stimuli and has a different pain thresholds. Everyone reacts to various stimuli with different perceptions, depending on various influences on his personality. Culture has a great influence on these sensations and the way we respond to them. If our culture teaches us to repress our basic intuitive reactions to certain pains, by being inattentive to those messages, we are likely to let certain diseases take hold and develop. In various cases, we are even conditioned to enjoy the pain that leads, later, to disease. The more a person is connected to his natural instincts, the more he will benefit from his senses, and the more he will be able to recognize, and thus avoid malicious elements, distress and sickness. There are many circumstances when we erroneously interpret these sensations. Usually this is associated with our education or our pursuit of pleasure. The sensations of pleasure, which are a fall-out of our culture and in actions we have been brought up to believe are pleasurable. However, while we may be enjoying ourselves by pushing ourselves to the limits of our senses, our body is being roughly attacked. Examples of this are cigarette smoking or, our subject matter, eating hot food and imbibing hot drinks. Back to TOC

The destructive pleasure of frequent stimulus of the pain threshold

Although it seem as if the pleasure and pain comes from difference area in the brain, they are basically the same sensation. They both derive from the same type of stimulus and both come from the same nerve cells. The difference between them is lying in the intensity of the stimulus or, either from the amount of energy that is applied, or the time over which the stimulus is active. The point where the pleasure turns to pain is known as the "pain threshold," because from this stage on, every rise in the stimulus, will lead to pain. A stimulus in the range that the body can handle, and at a frequency which is not too high, generally makes us feel comfortable or even causes us pleasures. This is because the body is craving for stimulations that operates the different systems. If this stimulus is significantly stronger than the body is designed to withstand, it leads to immediate pain that warns us of physical damage. A person with healthy senses and instinctively will avoid. If a stimulus occurs frequently, and over a long time, even though it might be consider as a positive on, the sensory cells will gradually lose their sensitivity. From this point, the road to wear and tear of tissues and damage to health is open. We can find an example of reduced sensitivity from over-stimulation in the massage. Gentle massage can be pleasurable because it stimulates the blood flow and by that improves the functionality of many organs and physical mechanisms. However, massage that is too lengthy or too frequent can dull those pressure sensory cells and lower our level of sensitivity to it. As time progresses, we will need massage that is more energetic in order to enjoy it. We usually prefer massage that is close to the pain threshold, many consider as the peak of pleasure. At this level of the stimulus, and despite the pleasure that we feel, the blood vessels, muscles, joints, nerve cells and various other tissues are suffering and being damaged under excessive pressure. Our blindness to the source of continual erosion and gradual collapse of the tissues is hidden in the pleasure that is derived from the pain threshold stimulus when we make frequent use of maximum intensity stimuli for pleasure. To connect this idea to our topic, consider that we, as small children, sipped drinks at around body temperature. The warmth served a basic need for heat and as such, it was a source of enjoyment. As children, we were unable to drink at high and harmful temperatures because of the pain that was delivered by our fresh and healthy nerve cells in the gum tissue. As we got older, seeking to get the most pleasure from the heat, we gradually got used to higher temperatures. However, over the years, this getting used to process resulted in a vicious cycle that led to a slow and continuous suppression of the oral sensory nerve cells. The diminishing sensitivity of the nerve cells caused us to increase the amount of stimuli needed in order to cross the sensation threshold and derive pleasure from the heat of the drinks. However, frequent use of the pain threshold stimulus, which, in itself is rising continually (that is, wanting to enjoy our drinks at the very highest temperature we can stand), leads to less functionality of the sensory organs in that area. As time goes by, we further increase the intensity of the stimulus (the temperature) required and further dull the nerve cells, thereby raising even more the level of harm to the gum tissue cells and their blood vessels. The dulling of the senses reaches a point that essentially enables us to cook our gum tissue, without us noticing and understanding that we are harming ourselves.

Back to TOC

We encounter similar behavior with other senses, which has the same spirals that lead to damage from overuse of nervous stimuli. Nowadays, in the industrial era, we are surrounded by elements that have the potential to cause serious damage to our health. We are exposed to energies that assault our nervous systems, without us being aware of the abuse that is being wrought upon us and the consequences that it has. This often leads to distress and ensuing severe physical and mental disorders without us even having the slightest clue as to the reasons for them. Another example for this is the pleasure that people often derive from listening to excessively loud music. While they use the pain threshold stimuli to maximize the pleasure, the energy cause accumulated damage to the aural (ear) nerves that results in loss of hearing. Just like body massage, listening to music of high quality sound at a reasonable level, gives us pleasure and is caressing the eardrum with a gentle air massage. But then again, seeking to increase the level of pleasure, some of us raise the volume to the maximum that they enjoy, which is the pain threshold. Anything louder, especially if combined with long-term exposure, can bring on headaches as an early warning sign to distance ourselves from the source of the noise and avoid damage to our sense of hearing. If we ignore these early warning signs, the harsh tones will gradually suppress our aural nerves, irreversibly harming the hearing mechanism. Any type of stimulus, even if is considered as good and healthy for us, will harm the tissues which are exposed to it, once it passes the energy range for which it is suited. The amount of damage is relative to the intensity and the frequency of the energy and the extent of the bodys sensitivity to that type of energy.

The senses that were developed to as crucial tools for survival, in today's world have become a tool for pleasure. We now utilize these senses and demand more and stronger sensations to reach enjoyment. This way we are abusing the mechanisms that were intended to protect us. Instead, we are using them to cause havoc and damage to our health. Back to TOC

The finger experiment - do not try this at home

I would not recommend that you try the following, but in order to understand the devastating effect that high temperatures have on our bodies, imagine what your fingers would look like if you would stick them into that cup of hot coffee you are drinking. You know that you will end up with scalded fingers. Painful, to say the least! If you are really determined to bathe your fingers in hot water at coffee temperature, you would have to work at gradually getting used to the heat. In other words, you must gradually paralyze the nerves in order to suppress the pain. Eventually, you would be able to keep your fingers in the hot liquid without feeling uncomfortable. After a while, though, you will notice that your fingers are dried out and shriveled from the intense heat, without having felt any pain. As you continue this behavior, just as with your mouth, periodontal pockets will appear between the flesh and the nail. The tissue holding on your nail will gradually shrink, recede and harden until the nail drops off, mirroring what happens when your teeth fall out. Your fingers are quite well protected by a relatively thick layer of skin and are equipped with sophisticated heat-adjusting mechanisms for coping with changing environment and extreme temperatures. If they can become damaged by repeated exposure to hot water, imagine the infinite suffering and damage you cause to your delicate and unprotected gum tissue, which, as a part of our inner tissue need balanced, exact and constant temperatures. You should understand that exposing the gum tissue to hot liquid could be likened, in principle, to exposing any other internal organ in your bodies at the same amount of heat. Just as you would not dream of heating your kidneys, pancreas or spleen, by immersing them in hot coffee, you should have the same approach with gum. In fact, there is not one organ in our bodies that could withstand the temperatures and the amount of heat to which we subject our unfortunate gum tissue. Back to TOC

Understanding the bodys mechanisms

If you want to live in better harmony with your body, think of it as a vast collection of mechanisms. These mechanisms provide solutions to the challenges facing the body in the natural environment, in which it was developed, as defined by the DNA. From the visible mechanisms, whose functions are well known such as eyes, hands, ears, legs, skin and other organs and limbs, to the molecular mechanisms include blood corpuscles, hormones and various proteins, which exist and function microscopically. In order to keep this wonderful machine in good working order, each and every mechanism has to function within a specific range of stimuli that will maintain its energy. On the other hand, over-exposure to certain elements erodes the mechanisms designed to cope with the environmental factor, leading to sensitivity. In these instances, the more contact there is with these elements the more sensitive we will become, until, at some point the mechanism succumb. In this case, our reaction to these elements will either become an allergic one, or damage the mechanism involved. For example, vision will deteriorate for different reasons that relate to the way we use the visual mechanism. Existing for an extended time in total darkness leads to blood flow problems that cause the nerves in the eyes and other associated

mechanisms to atrophy. At the opposite extreme, a person can ruin his vision by staring at the sun or at the electrodes of a welding machine with the naked eye. The damage evolves because the body is not built to withstand the large amount of energy emanating from it. Exposure to this amount of energy will damage the optic nerves cells. The more a person's mechanisms are working efficiently, the more he will be aware to environmental factors that has a hazard potential. Back to TOC

Chapter 12. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)

Despite the fact that both extreme hot and cold are uncomfortable as well as being dangerous, if we had to choose between getting used to extreme cold or getting used to extreme hot within the range that we can still function, it would be better to choose cold, as being less harmful to our health. To make this point clear, I will use two examples of common syndromes that demonstrate the response of our body's tissue to temperatures of different extremes. The first case relates to observations by researchers, of a phenomenon they called Fishermans Hands Syndrome*. It was clearly shown that fishermen whose hands were frequently immersed in cold water, developed improved blood flow in their hands. On the other hand, a more widespread phenomenon is what we call Dishwashers Hands Syndrome, which is a prevalent affliction among people who work frequently with hot water, such as those who wash dishes or use hot water with their bare hands, or doing other tasks using hot water several times a day. They tend to believe that hot water will do better in the cleaning tasks. Indeed, they do, but they do much more then this! Alongside with the cleaning tasks, hot water seriously damages the health and functionality by damaging the capillaries, veins and arteries. This results in disruption the immunological mechanism, alongside with disrupting the metabolism, and serious inflammation and deformity of the hand joints (arthritis), resulting in demolition of the joints, loss functionality, motoric deficiency and pain. Over the years, as we age, the cumulative damage caused by the excessive heat, together with the decreases in ones ability to rehabilitate, accelerates the development of the disease. The insufficient blood flow due to the damage to the blood vessels raises the need for artificial heat during the cold seasons, causes many sufferers to make more use in hot water, which worsens the disease. It is quite common to see elderly women, with swollen hands due to impaired blood flow caused by daily exposure to high temperatures and large quantities of heat absorbed from hot water. Failed metabolism will lead to phenomenon such as swelling, because of fluid retention - and dryness of the skin because the blood stops supplying fluids to the outer tissues. This is where moisturizing creams or hands creams are used, but due to the continual deterioration, they bring nothing more then a short relief. At advanced stages, due to the infection, the fingers get purplish-red color. The inflammation attacks the soft tissues in the joints, affecting joint flexibility, causing unbearable pain and hampering mobility of the hand structure. In instances when extreme sensitivity and over-exposure are combined, the hands gradually become deformed and the finger joints stiffen. Often the next step will be gangrene and subsequent amputation. Other common activities similarly subject our body to excess heat, and have an impact that leads to inflammation and dysfunction of tissues, resulting in prevalent diseases as rheumatoid arthritis. This disease is very widely spread, especially prevalent in people who regularly use hot baths, saunas, or hot springs, which, because of the high temperatures, are not good for our health, to say the least. Although the causes as well as the solution are simple and handy, in medical terms it defined as an autoimmune disease, and it charges high price from the unaware sufferers.

An interesting observation is that the symptoms of the rheumatoid arthritis are parallel to those of gum inflammation. The reasons that inflammations of the gums are much more prevalent then rheumatoid arthritis (or inflammation of the joints) is because our skin, being an external organ, can rid itself of excess heat relatively easily through sweating. Furthermore, the frequency with which we have hot drinks is usually much higher than that of bathing or going into a sauna.

Why it is worthwhile to do it right...

In the long term, decrement the use of hot water has a great health value, as it might save you from suffer, pain and huge medical costs. The point is that also in the short term it has a great hidden advantage. If you suffer from inflamed or dry hands and are in constant contact with hot water, it is advisable to use only water at room temperature whenever possible. This might halt the damage and enable the body to start to rehabilitate itself naturally. In winter, the use of hot water for getting warm is deceiving. As it might feel pleasant while our hands are still in the water, since the heat expands the blood vessels and slows down the blood flow in our hands, beyond the health damage, seconds after we take them out of the water, our hands will feel cold and stay so for a long time. The reason that rheumatoid arthritis strikes more severely in the winter time, is the excessive use of hotter water in bath. If you need to use hot water in the bathroom during the cold seasons, try to shorten the exposure time to the hot water the as much as possible in the favor of reduce the damage. On the other hand, for home tasks such as cleaning or dish washing, even though it may seem uncomfortable to use roomtemperature water in cold weather, it has some worthwhile advantages. Water at room temperature raises our blood pressure and accelerates the blood flow to our hands. In this way, after taking our hands out of the water, our hands will remain comfortable and even pleasantly warm for a long time.

Chapter 13. Challenging the Three Powerful Elements

When you sip a hot drink, without being aware, you are challenging three of natures most powerful elements water, heat and time. Many books have been written and untold number of research studies have been carried out on their unique qualities and their critical part in the creation and existence of life these elements. Although they are the biggest forces in nature and the most important components of life, in our daily lives we do not give them appropriate respect.

1. Water the basis of life on earth

Water is the main substance of life. Everywhere that you find water, you will also find life and vice versa. Our bodies are

comprised of over 70% water, which constitutes the internal environment of every living organism on this planet. As it is the main constituent of every cell's cytoplasm, water is the environment in which the cell's organelles perform the basic processes of life. From this, we may conclude that even on dry land, life actually exists in water. Moreover, from the fact that life's basic process are happening in water, we should conclude that life started it's developing in water. Water differs from other natural substances in its characteristics and many unique qualities.

2. Heat the energy of life and death

Heat is a form of energy that is crucial for maintaining life, and that can be destructive. Metaphorically, heat differentiate is heaven from hell. Balanced heat is heaven; unbalanced heat is hell. When controlled, it initiates and expedites a number of amazing and complex chemical, biological and physiological processes; however, uncontrolled, heat can cause decay, desiccation, death, fires and other catastrophes. To understand the significance of heat accuracy that is required for sustaining life, just think about the sophisticated processes in nature that are generated by heat energy. A familiar example is a chickens egg. After the hen supplies controlled heat for exactly 21 days, the contents of the egg will turn into something wondrous: a live chick with developed senses, existential significance and amazingly efficient and complex physiological mechanisms. On the other hand, leaving the egg without the necessary heat to develop will bring about chaos and decay. Put a fresh egg in a pot , boil it on a low flame for 3-5 minutes and its contents will turn into a soft-boiled egg, while a few more minutes will change it into a hardboiled egg. Each one of these results has totally different textures and characteristics yet non of them will grow life.

3. Time the most important element of every process

With matter and energy at the ready, time is the dimension needed for the processes in the universe to occur. Only with a developed awareness of time, can we make it work for our benefit. We can see how important the time factor is by observing trees and plants whose roots have penetrated deeply through hard rocks and even concrete, by using modest but consistent pressure over time. If the tree were in a hurry to drive its roots through the rock face, they would probably smash into it. Although water, heat and time are powerful factors in themselves, combined, they provide a synergetic outcome. Under normal conditions, water is relatively passive; heat it up, and it becomes active and even violent. For example, water at room temperature cannot melt sticky and stubborn fat stains, but when combined with heat, either as hot water or as steam, the fat will dissolve effortlessly. The earth, with all its wonders, is the most amazing evidence of times performance, in conjunction with matter, energy and water. Combined, water, heat and time, are the most significant factors in the existence of life on earth. Uncontrolled combinations of these sources will undoubtedly lead to damage and destruction for the systems of life on this planet, which need delicate and controlled balances to survive. Back to TOC

Qualities of hot beverages

Being the main component of hot beverages, water defines many of its qualities.

Water is the greatest heat absorber in nature. This means it is capable of storing more heat than any other natural gas liquid or solid. This unique quality is responsible to the fact that the oceans water plays a huge role in regulating the earths temperatures and driving the climate. We can illustrate the heat-conserving properties of water by the following example: To raise the temperature of the same amounts of water, copper and gold by the same number of degrees, we will need to supply the water with11 times more heat energy than the copper and 33 times more heat energy than the gold! This illustrated below showing some common materials and their specific heat capacity.

Table 11-1. Amount of energy, in joules*, needed to increase one gram of material by 1C. The more energy required to heat matter, the more thermal energy it stores during the heating up process. Therefore, the hot substance contains a larger amount of heat, which is then released during the cooling down process until it reaches the ambient temperature. Water, as natures largest heat accumulator, needs an enormous amount of energy to reach boiling point. Home appliances that are used to heat water such as the electric kettle are therefore the greatest consumers of electricity in the household. To boil water they consume a massive amount of electric energy between 2,000 2,500 watts per hour. Being reservoirs of vast amounts of heat, hot drinks are the most significant cause of damage to the gum tissue. Whilst we are enjoying the heat of the drink, the beverage cools down and releases energy into our mouth. This enormous amount of energy is active for a long time, and actually cooks our poor, suppressed, defenseless gum tissues. The more sensitive a person is to this energy, the greater the damage caused by the exposure. Because of the large amount of heat that water stores, even beverages that we might consider harmless, because they are consumed at body temperature (37C), still have a huge amount of heat for our internal and sensitive gum tissue.

In an experiment which I carried out to measure the time that it takes for a glass (about 250 ml) filled with boiling water to cool to an ambient temperature of 26C, I found that in the first stages of cooling the water, the temperature dropped by about 2C every minute. As the waters temperature got lower, the difference in its level of energy compared to the outside environment was reduced, and the loss of heat (the cooling process) slowed down. Thus, the initial rate of heat loss was quite swift, but it slowed down as the difference in temperature between the water and the surroundings decreased. See figure 10-1.

Figure 11-1. The rate of heat loss in a glass of water over time. The test result shows that if a drink is poured at a temperature of 95C and then left for twenty minutes to cool, the liquid reaches a temperature of 60C, which is still very dangerous and harmful to a human tissue. The fact is, though, that no one usually waits even ten minutes to start drinking. Most people will take a sip immediately after pouring - or wait only a minute or two at most. Back to TOC

Chapter 14. The Culture that worship the Hot Drinks

Or : Hot drinks: destructive ceremonies in modern culture Many diseases are results of our way of life, which is a part of our civilization, giving us our cultural personality. We live under the influence of norms, traditions, authorities, conventions, religious beliefs, myths, and pre-conceived ideas that cause us to adopt lifestyles that harm us daily. Apart from these, powerful industrial and economic parties efficiently influence us to promote their interests by using so-called scientific research, public opinion shapers, media and other sophisticate means. Regardless of your location, your culture, your education, your religion or your social standing, hot beverages have become a common denominator connecting all the people on earth. In an amazing way, in all of the cultures around the world, man has created an almost glorified halo which surrounds the hot drink, hailing it as a solution to various health problems - and as one of the most available pleasures that you can get anywhere for a reasonable price. Due to the glorification, many people have been conditioned to think that without it, there is no point in getting up in the morning. In Japan, for example, tea drinking is a traditional, almost religious ritual, founded on a philosophy embracing almost every aspect of life. Strict rules must be followed in the ceremony of preparing, serving and drinking the tea. Geishas have to undergo special training with a sensei (a certified teacher) for a number of years, before they are authorized to serve the traditional tea in what is called the "tea ceremony." Every respected dwelling in Japan boasts one or two tearooms. The French indulge in coffee and croissants in the morning as a national custom, which became a part of their daily routine. In England, tea, which originated in India, and came all the way to England when India was a British colony, has become a

part of the English tradition. In the old days, drinking tea used to be considered as a symbol of status. Nowadays, even though tea is common and within the reach of all, it still remains a symbol of quality of life. The English are very particular about the times that tea has to be drunk. The morning cuppa and the five-oclock tea, which is more a social ritual, cannot be missed. For the Bedouin, it is inconceivable not to offer thick, rich, sweet coffee to their guests. Those who are familiar with the culture understand by the order of the cups, whether they should stay or get up and leave. The traditional hot drink in most South American countries is called Mat, and originated in Uruguay. Mat is a social drink which has a similar role to the tea and coffee of other cultures. In the mat ceremony, there are special and specific tools and rules for pouring and drinking. In North African cultures, besides the popular coffee drunk there, it is common to drink herb infusions, such as mint, sage, Artemisia (wormwood), lemon verbena, cinnamon, which are consumed at very high temperature in order to enjoy their benefits. There are different cultures in which it is accepted to categorize infusions as those for women, brewed from flowers and fruit, and those for men, brewed from roots and bark.

Hot drinks: what makes us so dependent

Hot drinks, soups and hot meals have become such so sanctified, that it is almost impossible to censure them. So much has been said in its glory, that any normal being would be convinced of its virtues. Thousands of songs, films, tales and stories all over the world have created a culture that has built impenetrable walls of fame that are beyond argument. The hot drink myth is so rooted in our mindset that, it is difficult to find an artist or a singer from Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald to Bob Dylan, the Beatles and more who does not venerate it in songs, and thereby contributes to its prestige and reinforces its status in our subconscious. You can probably think of countless other convincing reasons for pushing that little red button to make a hot drink at any time for any mood, but we will not go into that any further. The aim of this book is to manifest the reasons in which the hot drink, which so destroys the energy balance and which leads to diseases and suffering, became a ritual that has taken over our lives. While it might meet the psychological needs that have been built up through unrealistic belief and attitudes, it goes against our biological needs. Like any psychological addiction, it not easy to wean ourselves away from this need. However, it is possible; it is worthwhile and necessary for the sake of the bodys functioning and the sooner the better. Such it is with the culture that brought us to believe in the myth of the hot drink, and educated (read brainwashed) us to believe in its qualities for the health and comfort associated with it. As long as we are not aware of what our body goes through when we are convinced that we are doing for its favor, it is more than likely that in certain situations, we will indulge in them in response to certain subconscious physiological needs.

In effect, things has come so bad, that resisting the hot drink has become similar to resisting an instinct or a conditioned reflex. In order to change your way of life at a level that will enable your body to rehabilitate, you need to free yourself from preconceived ideas which form your consciousness and cause you to adopt harmful behavior. Therefore, in the next chapter we will examine the most popular myths that cause us to consume hot food and drink - and bring us face to face with the actual reality that our physical bodies have to cope with. Back to TOC

Myths and deceptions about hot foods and drinks

The only creature on earth that derives pleasure from hot drinks and food is man. No animal in nature with healthy instincts will go near hot food or drink at the temperature that we drink black coffee, even if it is desperately hungry or thirsty.

Many kinds of hot drinks are considered to have beneficial qualities, such as eliminating tiredness; helping concentration; helping us relax; relieving headaches, sore throats and stomachaches; helping to lose weight; killing bacteria; opening up sweat pores to release toxins; alleviating pain; and more. A great deal of money is invested by the hot food and drink industry, to condition us to consume products. Perhaps the most efficient tool to influence the consumers consciousness, in a way that will increase sales, is using scientific research with predetermined results in order to prepare subjective data beneficial to the economic interests. These "facts" later find their way to the public by massive public relations covered by the media. In an economic culture, where everyone is looking to increase his income, the industry molds peoples personalities and habits through a non-stop bombardment of messages. As food technology develops, we are exposed to wider range of tempting products, while the growing competition for a limited market accelerates the level of investment in advertising, leading to more sophisticated brainwashing. As a result, the mental dependency that we have developed on hot food and drink, and their various aspects, has made it all but impossible to detach ourselves from these harmful sources. Despite the great efforts made by the industry to maintain and nurture the ancient myths so that we will expand our consumption of hot food and drink, if you have read this far, I am sure that, by now, you understand that this practice comes from the economic interests or twisted minds of a sinful culture (see box). Let us examine a number of myths and fabrications that we have come to believe about hot drinks and refute them.

1. Hot drinks is a solution to heat your body when youre cold.

It is no wonder that gum diseases gather momentum during cold weather when we find ourselves at one with hot soup and hot drinks that supposedly fill our bodys need for heat.
We have been led to believe that hot drinks are the way to maintain our heat balance when we are cold. It should be understood that the only effect a hot drink has in winter is mainly to warm the hands holding the cup and this does not even last long. Advertisements specifically broadcast during the cold, winter months show actors and personalities with whom we identify, exaggeratedly sipping hot drinks or piping hot soup and presenting the pleasing hot drink as an enjoyable, tasty and warming solution.

Of course, maintaining the heat balance of the body is as important as any other balance, but hot soup is not the answer. Trying to balance the efficacy of the bodys energy by consuming hot drinks only encourages the weakening of the gums, contributes to a decline of the body and the use of unnecessary energy, inflates electricity bills and other needless expenses this is often marked by a special budget for factors connected to hot drinks. Heating the body during cold spells via the mouth is basically unacceptable as such a large intake of heat in this way would cause an excessive local imbalance of energy. This imbalance would cause unwelcome consequences to your health, your gums and other internal tissues. The correct way to heat the body is by activating our internal heater which would radiate the heat outwards from within, as opposed to heat absorbed from the body from without. This can be done by accelerating your metabolism with some sort of aerobic activity (which creates heat). this is not only effective, but in the long run it is also healthy. This negligible and ineffectual way of drinking something hot to warm the body makes us drink at intervals that are more frequent. When the weather cools, do not rush to put the kettle on drink a lot of water and do some sort of physical activity such as running and team sports, all of which create heat. A short run will provide you with a certain amount of natural heat to maintain your energy efficacy level for several hours. This way you will not need artificial alternatives that have a negative affect on you. Besides heating the body, physical activity has many other attributes: improving metabolism, burning superfluous fats, strengthening body, improving heart-lung stamina, building bone, accelerating blood and oxygen flow to all the bodys tissues, clearing deposits in the blood vessels, improving the energy flow within the body, and improving the functioning of the immunological mechanism, and more. Raising the energy level by working out improves the feeling of well-being. If you are either unwilling or unable to do some sort of physical activity, preferring to bundle yourself up, the best way to avoid catching cold is to wear warm clothes to keep in your body heat. It is advisable to keep heating appliances such as heaters, central heating, air conditioning or anything else that heats the whole body, to a minimum since their use wastes energy and impairs the bodys energy mechanisms. Drink soup for its nutritious, taste and consistency. You should not drink it to warm up.

2. All drinks are good as long as you get liquids.

We all know that drinking is important for our health. However, if you think that WHAT you are drinking does not make a difference, think again.
It is common knowledge that the body needs liquids and that drinking a lot is very important for our health. This holds true as long as we dont drink bleach or other harmful liquids. What we perhaps are not aware of, though, is that it is not just the liquid that is important, but the TYPE. Juice, coffee, tea, and more even if not hot should be considered extras. If we think that by drinking all these other beverages we are properly satisfying our bodys need for liquid, then we are going down a deceptive and harmful road. Except for water, all the beverages are harmful, especially when consumed in excessive quantities: colas rot your teeth, juices will make you fat, alcohol will damages your liver, and so on. By hedonistically indulging in our desires, without being aware of the composition and temperature of what we are consuming and how they can affect us, we are blindly traipsing down a wasteful and harmful road. Be aware that the feeling of thirst carries an instantaneous message to our consciousness that our body needs fluids.

Our lifestyle permits us to continually ignore the needs of our body, causing accumulated damage to the various tissues with long-term ramifications to our health. Not letting our body slake its thirst when necessary causes the body fluids to become viscous and accumulate residue and toxins in organs and tissues such as kidneys, liver, blood vessels. Over time, such damage to our health could become irrevocable. When you feel thirsty, the wrong thing to do is boil water for a hot drink. The length of time which passes from the moment your press the red button and until the water boils, together with waiting for the drink to cool enough to drink, means that you can be waiting for up to half an hour without filling your bodys need for fluids. The body filters all drinks, other than water, before they are absorbed into the bloodstream. The body filters off the water from coffee and tea and proceeds to distill it. This procedure slows up the bodys ability to use the liquids and increases the damage caused by drying out and should be considered in all seriousness. In order to maintain our health, we should base our consumption on water, as our main source of liquid intake. If you want to enjoy the taste of a brewed beverage, do it. However, dont do it because youre thirsty, and of course, do not drink it too hot. When you feel thirsty, do not boil the kettle! Drink water.

3. A hot drink is good for your health.

The notion that a hot drink is good for you is ubiquitous. We have been convinced that hot teas can heal a myriad of ills.
We have been taught to have faith in the healing properties of hot drinks. The enormous industry of herbal teas and health beverages supported by the various kinds of alternative medicine practitioners creates a foundation of consumerism and cultivates devotees who naively believe that hot tea made from herbal plants is good for ones health. This ironic phenomenon is one of the innumerable reasons why the nave and those who are supposedly more conscious of their health and wellbeing suffer from unnecessary illnesses and lose their teeth. Thanks to their distorted beliefs and perceptions regarding the effective properties attributed to hot drinks, a large number of health enthusiasts exaggerate the number of hot drinks they drink under the mistaken impression that if you are going to have a drink it might as well be a healthy one. The mouth is not sterile. It is a very complex, ecological environment balancing millions of microorganisms and affording the system the ability to function properly as long as this balance exists. When we drink something hot for health reasons, it is important to remember that the bacteria destroyed by the heat also include essential bacteria whose absence in this balance can cause damage to the system. In order to safeguard a healthy mouth and prevent certain bacteria from reproducing uncontrollably and causing damage, we have to make sure to keep the environment of the mouth healthy and balanced. In this way, we can ensure that the blood flow functions properly and transports the bodys defense and control mechanisms via healthy blood vessels. Antoine van Leeuwenhoeks experiments proved, as far back as 1683, that the high temperature and amount of heat found in hot drinks was enough to kill bacteria found in the mouth (see Chapter 8). If the intense heat is hot enough to kill bacteria, your own tissues will not be spared either. So, in the micro-cosmos of our mouth, we unconcernedly create a miniature ecological holocaust when we force the mouths environment to cope with the vast amount of energy that hot food and drink introduce several times a day.

Not too much effort is needed for the bodys mechanisms to maintain bacterial harmony. Maintaining reasonable hygiene in the natural environment is all that is required. You dont need hot drinks to do it.

4. A hot drink gets you going in the morning.

The ritual morning coffee is a must for most people; it is the thing we need to start off our day. We believe that that jolt of caffeine is our key to a good start. Little do we know what we are really doing.

The body does not expend motor energy at night. During the night, our energy heals the weakened and damaged tissues and organs, including the gum tissue which needs to rest in order to rehabilitate itself from the damage caused during the day from hot food and drink attacks. The ritual morning coffee is a must for most people and causes further unnecessary shock to the already damaged and sensitive gum tissue which tries desperately to rehabilitate itself every night. This damage cancels out any benefit that might have been obtained during sleep. The conserved energy found in the hot water of a cup of coffee can be compared to a slap in the face every morning when we wake up. If you want to wake in a sadistic way, try a slap in your face, I am sure that a punch will cause less damage to your pretty face then this cup of coffee. It is worth waking up differently.

5. A hot drink is great medicine when you are sick.

When we get the congestion and chills of the flu and viral infections, we are encouraged to drink lots of hot tea. This is not the answer.
In many cases when you feel colds, flu, and what medicine calls, viralic diseases, it is recommended to drink hot teas to make you feel better. In fact, when you are ill, the best thing is to augment the body with large, or even exaggerated, amounts of water. Not hot teas. It is not the heat, but the liquid that helps. Water can help people get better from infectious diseases. Drinking large quantities of water, two to three liters a day, helps the body get rid of mucous, cleanse infections and other harmful substances, and improve the functionality of the bodys many mechanisms. Drinking large amounts of water thins the blood and enables the blood to flow more easily. This will enable the immunological mechanism to function more quickly and smoothly in the affected areas. Augmenting the body with water leads to effective cleansing and often dispenses with the need of medication as well as helping us to overcome pain and illness naturally. Water has been the primary source of liquid over the untold number of years of development of life on earth. As part of the fabric all life and plant forms that have developed on earth, water is the essence of life. Water is the most natural, healthy and suitable liquid for the body, and what we rely on for optimal functionality of the bodys

various systems. Disregarding, or trying to change this natural and basic need, will culminate in diseases whose diagnosis we do not connect to their sources. These days, when the body is attacked by poisons from every direction, large water intake is the only thing that ensures that our body gets what it needs, at least from the point of view of liquid requisites. If you are feeling cold from the illness, the heat should come from the outside in. Blankets and warm clothes are the best way to warm up. Heating your body from the inside is not recommended.

6. A hot drink will help a sore throat.

When you have a sore throat, dont reach for the hot tea. You might be surprised to learn what really helps.
With the decline in physical activity and an increase in voice communication, we have been putting more pressure on our vocal chords. This pressure often causes the blood vessels to contract, resulting in insufficient blood flow affecting speech, causing hoarseness, stress and pain and, in extreme cases, bringing on other illnesses. Family doctors often recommend folk remedies as well as conventional therapy hot drinks such as lemon tea, various herb teas, soup, and the like. Since we tend to place our trust in our doctors whose recommendation only goes to strengthen our traditional and logical mindset that a hot drink is good for us, we also drink more as a preventive measure. Our hoarse and painful vocal chords are situated in the trachea (see chapter 5), which carries the air we breathe to and from the lungs, and which do not come in contact with hot liquids, which enter the digestive system via the esophagus. The pleasant feeling we get from hot drinks when we have a sore throat is not from contact with the vocal chords but from contact with the part of the soft palate (uvula see chapter 5.). When the hoarseness and soreness to the vocal chords comes from stress and strain, a good old yawn or massage to the vocal chords will do the trick. A complete yawn does wonders for sore vocal chords. Do not forget, stop talking for a while so as not to put any extra stress on the vocal chords when you are under pressure or are tense. A yawn is a way of stretching by opening the trachea and expanding the blood vessels in the vocal chords. Yawning helps to improve the blood flow and enables flexibility and improved functioning of the system. So, if you have a sore throat because of stress or pressure, try yawning as much as possible. You will find an improvement every time you yawn. Besides the improvement to your vocal chords, the yawn is also very important to other systems in the body. In todays world, yawning is considered a sign of boredom as well as being rude. Many people hold their yawns back, particularly when in company. I would suggest that you do not hold your yawns back. Quite the opposite - yawn as much as you can. Since dry throats and hoarseness are also a sign of lack of liquids, drinking large quantities of water can help get rid of the problem surprisingly efficiently and quickly. In the case that the hoarseness is a bacterial inflammation of the vocal chords (laryngitis), drinking a lot of water also helps.

Water does not need filtering and is absorbed into the blood efficiently and quickly. Try not to talk so as not to cause stress to the vocal chords, which would impair the blood flow, and yawn as much as possible. The combination of expanding the blood vessels of the vocal chords with quick and efficient cycling of liquids enables the blood flow in the vocal chords to treat the bacteria effectively and helps the body clear up infection without any side effects.

7. Enjoy it while its hot.

What child has not been admonished thus? We have been taught that the food tastes better when it is hot and that once it cools it will not be nearly as good. So eat up quickly for the best value. Right? Wrong!

Before we test this popular hot food myth, we need to differentiate between a hot meal and cooked food. Regarding our tendency to eat and drink at high temperatures, our sense of smell is very important for whetting our appetites. When the food or tea is very hot it gives off aromas that stimulate our digestive system. This activates the saliva and stomach juice glands bringing about appetite or a desire to eat which means that the stomach needs to be fed. By now, we are being controlled by our urges and rush to put food or drink in our mouth while it is still hot, harmful and full of wonderful aromas and before it loses its taste. The fact is that if we have no sense of smell our sense of taste does not function properly. You can carry out a small experiment to prove this: try biting into a peeled raw potato and a peeled apple with your eyes closed and your nose blocked. When the nose is blocked, the sense of taste does not function. Without sensing the texture of the two, it is impossible to tell the difference.

8. Its best because it just came out of the oven.

Restaurants must serve their meals piping hot or we will send them back. We are tempted by the aroma of freshly baked bread just out of the oven. We must restrain ourselves before we dig in.

Hot food is usually thought to be fresh. This is why food that has cooled is often reheated or, even worse, thrown away to make way for something fresher. It is important to know that each time that food is heated it gets re-processed, thereby losing another layer of its nutritious value. The only benefit from heating cooked food to a temperature at which we are used to eating, is more for hygienic reasons and for destroying bacteria. However, before starting to eat and in order not to cause damage, it is worth waiting for the temperature to cool. In fact, there is no advantage in eating hot food. Even the aroma of cooked food or tea does not always vouch for freshness. It often comes from spices or other culinary techniques.

Pay Attention: the taste of all types of food that we are used to eating hot boiled, fried, broiled or baked improves

when the food is at room temperature. Just like the other physiological components in the mouth, the taste buds will function better and more efficiently in the temperature of its natural environment, or in the narrow temperature range of the natural balance of the mouth. When we eat hot food, we experience more pleasure from the heat than from the taste. In other words, most of the pleasure is found in the heat while the taste becomes secondary and less perceptible. This is exactly what happens to grandmothers legendary soup. If you can just separate yourself from pre-conceived ideas, beliefs and myths, and drink the soup when it reaches a temperature of about 25C you will undoubtedly discover that this the temperature at which the soup is the tastiest and most pleasant. If the soup is not tasty when drunk at room temperature, it is quite possible that the heat distracted us from its bad taste and that it was not fit to be drunk in the first place.

9. Theres nothing like a cup of good, strong, hot black coffee.

Why do we throw cold coffee down the drain and prepare fresh, piping hot coffee in its place? Coffee differs from other drinks such as breakfast tea, Instant coffee, herb teas and other drinks that can be enjoyed when cooled. It is just not done to drink cold black coffee. We can assume, therefore, that black coffee is basically revolting (at least when it is not hot)! It is necessary to understand that the taste of coffee does not change when it cools. The cooling process just changes the temperature and the aroma. The taste stays the same. After looking into this phenomenon, the assumption was reached that the pleasure from black coffee comes from a combination of the pleasing aroma given off when still hot, and the pleasure from the heat and the stimulation of the pain threshold, or the feeling of very slight tension of the gum tissue due to the shrinking caused by intense heat. Once the coffee has cooled and the heat dispersed, the aroma disappears and the ability to cause tension is diminished. The coffee, which has lost its taste and dubious quality, is no longer pleasing to the palate.

10. The curse of black coffee

We have all come across people addicted to hot coffee. The impression formed about black coffee, which originates from eastern cultures, is that it is a strong, macho drink. It is ironic that those who nurture this idea of strength are not aware that it is just that strong coffee that will make them weak and toothless.

11. The social hot drink meet me for a cup of coffee

Coffee sets everything in motion Balzac

Figure 12-2. Getting together over a cup of coffee. Hot drinks have fast become a significant practice of our civilization a third party to social gatherings come for coffee. From time to time everyone is tempted to have something hot to drink. People in every office or institution, private or public, large or small use drinking coffee as an excuse to meet. We often find that invitations to social events mention a hot drink as the cherry on the cake. To wind up the celebration, the dessert may include coffee and cake. Other expressions such as Lets have a cup of coffee; Come over for coffee; The coffees on me, have long since turned into idioms and become an integral part of our everyday speech. Since the world has become a global village, with the different cultures influencing each other via the various media channels, these expressions and customs have become common to everyone, irrespective of culture and geography. Is hot coffee a social requirement? Would there be a reason for meeting if there were no coffee involved? Maybe more emphasis should be put in the content of the gathering.

12. A nice hot drink is a compensation or a reward.

We did not choose to be born, and life in certain ways considered a wonderful phenomenon is certainly not an easy task. In many instances, we need heat to compensate for frustrations or unpleasant experiences to which we are often subjected, for instance, when we are angry, sad, under pressure or suffering lifes adversities. We feel the need to spoil ourselves, compensate for our hardships, rest a little, relax, and renew our energy. The hot drink is not the key!
Quite often, sometimes too often, this long awaited reward appears in the form of a relaxing and gratifying cup of hot coffee, tea or soup. It helps us to unwind a little from the pressures we are under but, at the same time, pitilessly attacks our gum tissue.

Since hot drinks signify reward, many of those suffering from gum disease, experience a marked deterioration of the disease during crises. Some of those who participated in the research group experienced gum collapse and loss of tooth function during crisis, bereavement, depression, divorce or while under other pressures. During the difficult period when people found themselves under increased pressure and stress, they compensatedthemselves with increased consumption of hot drinks.

13. The ten-minute coffee break.

People often need to cut off from time to time during a stressful workday, but if you tell the boss something like this work gives me a headache or I am taking ten to rest or meditate, you might appear to be disrespectful or not serious about your work. This could harm your position, reduce your promotion potential or even lead you to the unemployment line. On the other hand, an occasional coffee or cigarette break is considered justified and more reasonable. This miserable pretext and increase of hot drinks and cigarettes during the workday will bring on a deterioration of the gum diseases. This is a wake up call!

14. Life in the fast-food lane

Our lives today are fast-paced and full of stress often meaning that we are in a rush to eat and drink. During those stolen food and drink breaks between meetings and work, most of us tend to quickly down a hot drink, a hamburger, corn on the cob, pizza, French fries, and more without waiting for them to cool before swallowing. This behavior causes significant accumulated damage to our gum tissues, not to mention the damage to our stomachs. In many cases, the pain in our gums from heat damage causes us to cool the hot food with our saliva and swallow quickly without chewing properly. When the scarcely chewed food enters the stomach, it has to work harder than usual to digest the food. This extra exertion means increased blood flow to the stomach, which is followed by overall tiredness due to less blood reaching the extremities. High blood pressure evolves in the stomach due to the heightened blood flow, and can lead to blood cells bursting followed by sores (ulcers). The increased quantity and concentration of digestive juices produced to break down the badly chewed food could harm the stomach itself with the imbalance of acids causing ulcers, exacerbating the condition. Children are not immune to paying the price for life in the fast lane. When home-cooked food is not available because parents are in a hurry and do not have time to cook, in steps industry. The last word in the food industry is the wide range of noodles, pastas, soups and hot meals easily prepared in the microwave oven. These are fast becoming an integral part of childrens lives today due to the massive advertising campaigns, which repeatedly invade our awareness that a hot meal is a daily occurrence and you do not have to work hard or be talented in order to enjoy one. The industry, which will go to any lengths, usually manages to fill the shelves of the corner grocery and supermarket chains with its products and effortlessly change our habits and our awareness. At the same time, it will also alter our consumer behavior patterns so that we enthusiastically buy the latest products as they gather popularity, accessibility and preponderance.

15. Water is disdained because it is cheap

It appears that a lot of people today do not drink water because they are surrounded by more sophisticated and more creative substitutes.

The huge choice of hot and soft drinks at our fingertips today, together with massive advertising campaigns influencing our awareness, and our tendency to look for something new the whole time, makes water out to be - in the eyes of some a cheap liquid only good for washing dishes and floors. Under these circumstances, water is no longer considered prestigious. It loses its popularity and psychological value we would not dream of offering our honored guests the same plain water that we use for flushing the toilets. Therefore, when we are entertaining, we find ourselves rushing to the kitchen to look for a respectable alternative to quench our visitors thirst and make them happy. The ritual of preparing a hot drink has great social values psychologically as it is seen that the host/hostess has gone to a great deal of trouble to generate our enjoyment. If you appreciate your guests, give them the real McCoy give them water! After reading this book and realizing the enormous damage involved in our indifferent lifestyle, you conscience should lead you to think of your responsibility to your health. Remember this each time you pick up a piping hot drink. Understanding that this instant pleasure is the cause of suffering that you force on your body, as a person of conscience, you will not, be able to enjoy it. An interesting observation that shows how the introduction of a quantity and variety hot drinks into a culture has had a detrimental effect on the health of the teeth and gums can be made concerning the Eskimos. Until recently, they lived an isolated life and were famous for their healthy teeth. With the massive influence of Western culture on the Eskimos way of life, many recent photos and documentaries show quite clearly that, they too have become victims of gum diseases. Nowadays, you are unlikely to find an adult Eskimo with all his teeth. Most photos you see of smiling adult Eskimos will show many toothless, with a cup of tea in their hands or with a kettle posed over a bonfire. The long teeth and exposed tooth neck of adult Eskimos (who still have their teeth), only go to show what can happen by taking up the Western practice of drinking hot tea, coffee and other foodstuffs, together with the destructive tendency to warm themselves with very hot drinks.

The concept of crime vs. the concept of sin Before we go any further, I want to elucidate the terms of crime and sin. When we knowingly do things that cause harm to ourselves, is it a crime or a sin? Crime and sin are both transgressions, but on different levels. Crime is a violation of the law legislated by man. It is subjective and depends on cultural background. For this kind of transgressions we are punished by the enforcement that is in charge by the authorities.

A sin, on the other hand, is an absolute term. It is a moral crime with no punishment from the law, but at some stage, you will not be able to avoid paying the price for sins. The due punishment for sinful life is the loss of the moral right to health and wholeness. The price comes, quite often in unexpected ways. If, by definition, sin is immoral, then when we become aware of our sin we can choose in either one of two possible choices. We can either repent, beat our breasts and change our ways, and by that, arrest the damage and remedy what has already been done, hoping not to pay too heavy price. Or, we can blithely carry on, knowing that at some future stage we need to will pay the unavoidable price. Choosing the first prerogative will be more beneficial the sooner we utilize it for rectifying the situation. Since the body is by nature intolerant to coping with the high temperatures we place in our mouths, it is not a natural pleasure. Therefore, it is unethical or even sinful to subject our body to this. Within the daily assault of our health and our genetic strengths in our pursuit of enjoyment, we have to take into account that the price we pay in the supermarket for the hot drink essences is just a relatively small down payment for the immoral pleasure. The real price will be the disability, acute suffering and the subsequent effects that we will have to face, as well as the huge outlay for medical treatment and the various surgical procedures, which we will have to undergo when the tissues finally give in. No pleasure on earth is worth upsetting the balance so bad. No cup of coffee is worth a future of endless coping. We must cease pursuing todays pleasures when they only offer disease, suffering and monetary outlay tomorrow. It should be preferable to enjoy lifes real pleasures; those that contribute to the right balance in life. Back to TOC

Chapter 15. Refuting the Accepted Medical Theories

Science has missed the crucial point
As people who trust science, we would expect that scientists would be cognizant of the effects that alien temperatures have on chemical and biological processes within the complex proteins in our body cells, and suspect the effects that those temperatures on our health. Nevertheless, as an organization in charge of our health, and despite the huge amounts of high temperatures at which we are used to eating and drinking, this factor has been totally disregarded! Much research has been, and is sure to be carried out in educational facilities and research centers about the connection between diet and health problems. The amazing fact that all the research relates to the effects of only the different chemicals found in food and drink on our bodies, along with eating and drinking habits raises a big question mark about the approach of science that ignores the heat; whether it is fit to control our lives. The scientific method attempts to interpret each phenomenon into a mathematical equation, in technical items, for the most part, hits the nail on the head. The many fields of recent scientific achievements have been nothing but amazing, leave no room for doubt as to the value of science. We therefore can understand why people tend to accept observations of the "medical science" as an absolute fact. It is important to understand that, Medicine is not an exact science though. Despite the correlation between medicine and science, medicine uses the reputation of scientific achievements in the various technical fields that cause many of us to refer to medicines conclusions as truth almost blindly. Medical findings published in the realm of health and disease are too often contradicted by a research that published some years after. In several cases, it is a matter of months or even days that a research that won recognition will be contradict.

What we should be concerned about, is that while a certain "truth" is accepted by the establishment and as a result by the public, it designs the lifestyle and the behavior of a whole civilization. The faulty lifestyle adapted due to it, causes health damage that cannot be evaluated. Regarding knowledge of life, when it comes to disease and the accompanying symptoms, in many aspects science gropes about in the dark. This emanates from sciences approach to understanding life, focusing on the physical side of life while totally ignoring the energy fields. Because science only sees half the picture (moreover - the least significant half), the more scientific research advances the less clear the picture becomes. Instead of real progress, which would allow us to solve lifes enigmas and health issues, these ever-increasing contradictory researches only lead to incomprehension and lack of understanding and more suffer. The opposition to the medical establishments accepted beliefs

A doctrine that supplants another, should proffer logical explanations and practical solutions to all the aspects involved. It is my belief that the theory of energy balance and its violation, gives a plausible view of all the causes and the symptoms of gum diseases listed above, and a practical, workable solution to them. In Chapter 4, I listed seven accepted reasons for the development of gum diseases. Here, I will prove why they have no basis. Below you will find detailed discussions about medicines hypotheses regarding the causes of gum disease. I will illustrate how I interpret them in order to enable you to see things from a different perspective.

Statistical proof, logical proof and scientific proof

Statistical proof. In medicine, facts that considered as scientific are usually based on statistical research. For
instance, when research is carried out on a group of people according to accepted criteria. The decision whether to accept the suppositions on which the research was founded as a scientific fact, will be taken according to the percentage of suitable reactions to the medication or treatment being tested. However, in this type of research, many variables can distort the results from one extreme to the other, whether from a limited outlook or because of certain interests which rule the research. There are innumerable factors that can influence and distort the results, and which are almost impossible to be taken all into account. Some of these include the patient's faith in the doctor, scientist or medication involved (suggestibility), and environmental, lifestyle, quality of life and stress changes in the subjects. All these can undermine the authenticity and accuracy of the research. In quite a number of cases, economic sources financing the research are able to manipulate the variables as they see fit the results to their interests.

Logical proof. Logical research, on the other hand, is based on an accepted premise and meets the criteria of logic. A
theory that is based on such a premise, and is supported by actual results can lead to far-reaching insight. For instance, if we presume that one and one make two, we arrive at the logical conclusion that two and two make four, four and four make eight, and so on. By principle, we should reach the unequivocal conclusion that one hundred and one hundred make two hundred without needing to calculate each step individually.

On the subject of gum disease, I presumed that a temperature of 4C higher than body temperature would damage the blood vessels of the internal tissues. To illustrate this, I referred to nosebleeds which tend to occur more frequently during the hot summer, when the outside temperature more or less corresponds to, or is even less than, the temperature that gum disease sufferers drink their warm drinks. From this, I could extrapolate to understand the damage that would occur and accumulated in the blood vessels of gum tissues that, over many years of daily intake, are exposed of what we consider of as pleasant drinks. By extension, the disruption to the blood flow and the insufficient metabolism and functionality of the immunological mechanism, provides the ideal conditions for inflammation to flare up and intensify. Regarding receding of the gums, I presumed that high temperatures would cause the cells to dry, leading to shrinking (receding) of all the tissue. To illustrate this, I gave an example of meat shrinking from being cooked at a temperature that many of us are used to drinking. Back to TOC

1. The inherited gum disease theory

By observing that gum diseases are "running in the family", researchers who use dry statistics, conclude that the cause is hereditary. Here, we will learn to view the phenomenon from different approach. The medical supposition that gum diseases are genetic leaves us, as sufferers, with the impression that we are doomed. We are lead to believe that the disease is unavoidable, and since we have apparently been born with defect genes, we should expect to undergo the inevitable suffering and the crucial medical treatment. This leaves us with no hope and weakening our motivation to try to find a different solution to the ever-deteriorating situation. As a part of this traditional approach, except for hygienic treatments, doctors do not offer practical treatment but suggest that we will live with it until the treatment is absolutely necessary. Although we cannot totally ignore the connection between gum diseases and the bodys hereditary system, the assertion that gum diseases are inherited is just as true as for any other disease we are likely to catch. Even a common disease such as the flu could be under the definition "genetic disease", since its development depends on the individual genetic sensitivity to the source of the disease. Inasmuch as we do not consider the flu to be an inherited disease, so we should not think of gum disease in the same way. In that sense, even though heredity plays a critical role of the condition of our health, it still does not turn every disease into what we define "genetic disease. In essence, if our genetics was efficient enough to supply the body with all the necessary tools to cope with the various factors found in our environment, we would not be sick at all. From this, we can conclude that despite the fact that the basis to every disease is a genetic failure or weakness, from many "genetic" diseases we can avoid. Before trying to have better understanding of the issue, let us examine the difference between genetic malfunction and inherited weakness. The expression hereditary diseases means a disease that has come about because of a genetic deficiency that directs the

body to develop in a defective way. This means that the genetic code is active in developing the deficiency or handicap that we call the disease. Diseases under this definition include Downs syndrome, albinism, autism, congenital physiological defects, and inherited metabolism defects, among others, all of which develop because of an active genetic disorder. In an ironic way, gum diseases are more likely should be considered as an auto-immune disease, since by definition, "auto-immune" disease is one that occurs when the body attacks itself, and here it is we, ourselves, who cause the development of the disease by regularly attacking our miserable tissues without being aware. Since, at this stage, it is quite clear that the genetic array is passive in the development of those diseases, it is not justifiable to define it as an inherited disease. The only inherited part of this disease is, at the most, the persons inability to withstand the energy that passes from the hot food and drink to the gum tissue. At this point, I would like to throw more light on the term of heredity. Just like any other creature on earth, man is built out of a genetic cluster, which contains the exact formula of the body's matching to the environment. The genetic cluster, which is passed down from one generation to the next, includes the instructions for the creation of mechanisms that provide the body needs to subsist in its natural habitat. The environment the body is familiar with ever since the beginning of its development, with all its characteristics and energies. A man, who has sound DNA with no defects or deficiencies, is a man that is adapted to an environment in which he is able to exist and function independently. As it needs to provide the body with the mechanisms that can handle the different types of energy and stimuli found in its natural habitat, as an essential condition for existence, this code, which is progressively changes over millions of generations, needs stable environment. When the various tissues of the body are exposed to environmental factors that they do not have the genetic knowledge to handle, they are found in the midst of a hostile environment with an ineffective code that does not equipped the body with mechanisms to cope with. The extreme changes technological progress made in our environment and lifestyle during the last generations, ensuing high temperatures and enormous amount of heat, further challenged the limits of the heredity, placing the bodys genetic code in an untenable and, therefore, ineffective position. In families where one of the parents has lost teeth or suffers from the disease, it is natural to find children suffering the same problems. The reason for this is twofold. The genetic code for sensitive gums that are unable to withstand high temperatures has been passed from one generation to another, along with the acquired tradition of destructive habits relating to hot foods and drinks. Changing the genetic sensitivity is impossible, but changing this harmful lifestyle will ensure that the next generation will not inherit gum diseases. So far, the gene that causes gum disease has not yet been discovered, and most likely never will be found. Regarding gum disease as a hereditary disease is based, as already mentioned, on statistical research and manipulated data for forming different viewpoints in the interest of those financing the research. 2. Tartar as a cause of gum disease

Most people who suffer from gum disease only become aware of their condition after undergoing tartar removal. Tartar that had penetrated the diseased gum pockets and accumulates between the tooth necks acts just like pouring cement, served the purpose of supporting and stabilizing the teeth. However, in cases where the disease in advanced stage, following its removal there was no longer anything to hold the teeth in position and they started to wobble and, in many cases, quickly fall out.

Since most people who suffer from gum disease also suffer from tartar, our modern day, learned scholars concluded that tartar is one of the causes of these diseases. As we will see below, tartar, like gum disease, is a result of consuming hot drinks. It makes sense, therefore, that when a person consumes a quantity of hot drinks, both the accumulation of tartar and the development of gum disease occur concurrently, according to the individuals susceptibilities, to the lifestyle, and the quality of the water. Tarter is a deposit, which comes from the minerals found in the water we boil to prepare hot drinks. Rainwater, which is our source of drinking water since the beginning of time, is not pure H2O. As the rain flows into natural and artificial reservoirs, on its way it absorbed from the earth molecules* of minerals and other substances that become an integral part of it. The more water containing substances such as bicarbonates, calcium and magnesium, the more it is considered hard water. The ratio between the components of the water, as well as their quantity changes according to the source of the water. Components which characterize hard water are generally found in drinking water, unless it has been filtered, boiled or undergone some other process to change it.

The assassination of water

Pure water is living water. In addition to it's of being the most important liquid for life, it is a rich source of essential minerals. In natural unprocessed water, the body capitalizes the minerals to function, grow, form and maintain healthy tissues and organs. The process of boiling water causes the make-up of those minerals to change, making some of them ineffective. The fact that they are no longer of any use to the body is bad, but it is the less significant one. What we should be terrified of is that molecules that are created during boiling, creates very harmful substances. If you want to prevent this harmful turn of events and allow the body to benefit from the minerals found in water you should not boil your water! During the heating, boiling and cooling of water the minerals found in it undergo a process of crystallization and sedimentation that change their composition. This culminates in an insoluble deposit called scale (in certain circumstances calculus).

Figure 13-1. This photo shows (left to right) cups of coffee, boiled water, tea and tap water at room temperature. The pigments dissolved in the hot drink make it impossible to see what is happening in the hot solution, but the boiled tap water, which had been poured into a clear glass, clearly shows floating scale particles.

Figure 13-2. A cup of tap water at room temperature compared to the same water that has been boiled and cooled, with scale deposits. Difficult though it is to believe, these pictures are quite real, with no special effects and no computer enhancements. To prove the point, all you need is tap water, a clear glass and a kettle After hot water has been poured into a glass, the surface layer of the liquid meets cooler air, looses energy as it cools and sinks. The hot liquid from the middle and bottom of the glass, which is lighter than the cooled water above, rises to the surface where it also cools. This is how, while the drink in the cup is still hot, we have a sort of whirlpool effect as the hot water from the bottom rises and replaces the cooled water on the surface. The rising hot water carries with it floating particles in the form of aquatic dust, until they consolidate into larger particles. When the particles become heavy enough to overcome the lifting power of the hot water, which gradually looses its energy within the cooling process, they sink and settle to the bottom of the glass. Since we never wait for the poured hot drink to cool, as we prefer drinking it while still hot, with each sip we consume part of this floating dust.

Figure 13-3.Particles of scale (calculus) floating in hot water. See what is at stake think twice about what you consume.

Figure 13-3. Particles of scale (calculus) floating in hot water. See what is at stake think twice about what you consume. When water cools in the kettle, the scale settles and deposits on the base and sides of the heating element. Even if you continue drinking hot drinks, you can still reduce the harm from scale and high temperatures by letting the water cool in the kettle for a few minutes before pouring. In this way, most of the scale will settle in the kettle, with less of it entering the body, which will also suffer less heat damage. By taking a close look at the formation of tartar, we notice that it mainly accumulates on the lower front teeth. The reason for this is that it is heavier compared to liquid and the lower front jaw is the lowest place for the scale to deposit while the drink is cooling in the mouth and has not yet been swallowed. Some of the sediment settles on the lower teeth, sticks to the tooth neck that has been exposed to great heat, and turns the deposit into tartar. Subsequent layers of scale, bacteria, tar particles from cigarettes, and pigments (food coloring from soft and hot drinks, industrially produced food and sweets) attach themselves to the rough layer of scale, staining the tartar in an array of colors. It is quite clear from this that although tartar accelerates gum diseases, it should not be considered as a cause. The fact that tartar usually appears at the same time as gum disease is because they have a common precursor hot drinks. Back to TOC For technical details about scale (calculus) deposit please see Appendix B.

Tartars role in deadly diseases

If you think that tartar journey ends here, you might be surprised. In recent years, scientists discovered that people that suffer from gum diseases have tendency to develop heart diseases, and so they linked between gum diseases and heart diseases. This book pointed this link in Israel, back in 1997. Here you will find the explanation to this link. When we sip hot drinks, mineral deposits that do not settle on the teeth are swallowed. Part of this deposit is secrete by the body's filtering systems, but the due to the vest quantity of tartar that penetrates the body, part of it penetrate the blood stream. Over the years, this deposit slowly, accumulate and crystallize in the blood vessels of the various tissues and organs, conceivably causing accumulated damage to the peripheral functioning of the blood vessel system. We must consider that the cardio-vascular system is the most important system in the body. Blood flow deficiency could affect the functioning of every organ, including essential organs, leading to serious malfunction, illness, amputation and even death. The connection between gum diseases and heart diseases.

When you understand where the scale comes from and follow its route through the body, the connection between a high intake of hot drinks and scale and chalk deposits that block the blood vessels in diseases such as becomes clear. This may culminate in calcification of the arteries and arteriosclerosis, both of which are fatal diseases and considered as among the leading causes of death in the modern world. It is very possible that a great many cases of suffering and death caused by heart attacks, strokes, and other vascular diseases, could have been prevented by less consumption of scale particles, with our hot drinks destructive habit. Research carried out on blood vessel and heart diseases revealed that there is a common denominator among most patients. Researchers were surprised to discover that these diseases are more prevalent amongst people with a rich diet while quite rare amongst those with a limited one. It was also found that arteriosclerosis and heart attacks were more prevalent among men than women. This finding led to the assumption that male hormones were a likely contributor to those diseases. We can accept these findings within the theory of the damages of hot drink on the physical system. People who enjoy rich food are also likely to enjoy an abundance of hot drinks. The fact that more men suffer from these diseases more then woman, is because men consume more and hotter drinks than women do; they usually drink more black coffee which is considered macho and at higher temperatures. Along with the extreme damage from the hot drinks, the larger quantity of scale floating in their drinks permeates the body with the increased probability that men will suffer more from diseases that are related to the dust. Arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), neck vessel's, that are the vessels that deliver blood to the brain, also called carotid blockage, is a very popular phenomenon that causes decline in the body and/or in the mental function, because of plaque layer that crystallize and stick to those vessels, many times ends with stroke or death. Kidney stones and gallstones; with hot drinks becoming the major source of fluid for many, it is inconceivable that scientific research has never suspected the hot drink as a source of these diseases. Our kidneys, being the bodys filter for fluids, are especially susceptible to the buildup of calcium and other deposits within it. Accumulation of calcium and magnesium stones in the kidneys, lead to gradual kidney dysfunction, which at a later stage, might leads to dialysis, kidney transplant or other complicated treatment that have an enormous effect on our quality of life. We tend to rely on our bodys sophisticated systems to filter waste and deposits and secrete them. However, since heated water and their deposits are not part of the bodys natural fare, nowadays, when the body is forced to meet this overwhelming challenge day by day, the genetic code is not suitable to deal with them efficiently. Even if the body manages to some extent to treat these deposits, it is likely that the enormous quantity of scale that the body has to cope with every day will eventually cause the filter mechanisms to crash. The higher the burden the less efficacy. Reduction of tarter by filtering the water Latter day awareness has increased the use of water filters to reduce deposits. It follows, therefore, that the water contains fewer deposits, which significantly reducing the occurrence of scale in kettles, on our teeth and in our bodies system. However, even if we consume hot drinks prepared from filtered water and the production of tartar is greatly reduced, it will not affect the gum diseases. Moreover, by filtering and boiling water we are losing one of our rich sources of natural minerals, causing body imbalances and ensuing dysfunction and deficiency. Back to TOC

3. Can insufficient tooth brush be the cause to the gum disease?

or - Perhaps I do not brush hard enough?

Another confusing official approach about the source of gum diseases claims, that gum diseases are a result of poor hygiene. We are informed that to maintain the health of the gums, or, at least arrest the diseases development, what we need is meticulous and proper oral hygiene. From this, we conclude that gum disease is a matter of hygiene neglect. Inevitably, many of those who succumb to this disease feel helpless and dirty, since although they were conscientious about cleaning their teeth and mouth and visiting the dental hygienist regularly, it was all to no effect on the disease deterioration. Many times, embarrassed adults are sent by the dentist to the hygienist for lessons in how to brush the teeth and gums properly, to no avail. Periodontal diseases are not a consequence of a faulty dental hygiene program. This can learn from the fact that even obsessive brushing and the use of the multitude of hygienic substances available does not stop the evolvement of the disease. In addition, the fact in many cases well-maintained, beautiful healthy teeth are falling out of their diseased gums, points that even the best hygiene program and maintaining sugar balance, has no bearing whatsoever on the diseases, and cannot save your gums.

Figure 14-2. The loaded toothbrush In figure 14-2, you can see the sufficient amount of toothpaste to clean your teeth efficiently. Any amount larger than this is nothing but a waste that creates excess foam in your mouth and discomfort while brushing. If you use bigger amount, the only people to gain from this are the toothpaste manufacturers. A large part of their product foam that is wasted as it is not properly utilized and creates the need to buy more toothpaste more often. The foam from the toothpaste does not come into contact with our teeth and has no particular function for maintaining cleanliness. A small amount of toothpaste is just as effective and more.

4. Brushing teeth with a hard-bristled toothbrush

A common opinion is that using a hard-bristled toothbrush might be a cause for the receding of the gum. Tooth brushing does not produce enough energy to cause a healthy gum tissue, damage such as receding of the gums, and surely will not open periodontal pockets. However, sick gum tissue that have reached the collapse point, is over sensitive and vulnerable, and might damage disproportional from factors that are normally harmless. This is when toothbrush bristles might have a meaning. It is therefore, not justified to define that toothbrush bristles as a cause the receding gums. Even if the unhealthy gum tissue is damaged in one way or another from violent tooth brushing, you will find that from this kind of damage, the tissue rectifies the situation with its own rehabilitative capabilities, if you follow the path that this book suggests. Perhaps more important reason why not to use a hard-bristled toothbrush is, that most toothpaste contains microscopic crystals whose job it is to polish the teeth during the daily tooth brushing. Extensive tooth brushing, particularly if using a hard toothbrush, will continually scratch and erode the enamel and the cementum layers covering the tooth, and eventually expose the tooth pulp. Since the body is unable to renew these layers, that causes sensitivity, health and esthetic problem that require complex medical treatment. If you use a toothbrush to clean your teeth, it is best to use a soft-bristled brush to avoid such a long-term damage. Be aware that many types of toothpaste contain a high quantity of salt, which dries out the gum tissue. Using toothpaste that has a large amount of cleansing salt as this might affect the tissues ability to renew itself. You can tell whether your toothpaste is too salty by noticing its taste. I would advice you to use one which is not over salted. Be careful how you clean your teeth If your teeth are healthy and you do not consume sugar-rich foods or foods to cause imbalances in the mouth, the best way to clean your teeth is simply daily flossing. Once every week or two, toothbrush can be added to the routine, to clean the surfaces.

Few words about brushing

Man was not born with a toothbrush. Just imagine that four or five generations ago, there was no such a thing as toothbrush, and normally, People's teeth functioned well. In todays world, we are so brainwashed about teeth brushing, that saying that the use toothbrush is unnecessary, would sound like sacrilege and lead to a wide condemn. Yet, as much as it might sound unrealistic, as long as you lead a healthy life, brushing your teeth is unnecessary. In many tribes in Africa and in remote regions, you will find that people are showing beautiful healthy shiny white teeth even at old age, although they have never seen a toothbrush. In recent generations, cleaning teeth with a brush and toothpaste has become an integral part of our lives. The more we are exposed to industrialization of food and drink containing a lot of sugar and an abundance of sweets, the more artificial protection we need. Yet, with developed awareness, we can reduce the consumption of sugar, and maintain a better health. In case that we are already damaged, a more recommended and less ruinous way to clean your teeth, is by using dental floss and to rinse the mouth out with water. If you are not meticulous about hygiene, you should know that it is more important to clean the mouth at night - before going to sleep, than in the morning. This is because at night, the saliva glands are inactive so we do not produce and swallow saliva. This means that if there is any leftover food particularly sugar in our mouths, we are providing for the bacteria many hours to be active, an environment to reproduce unhindered for as long as we are asleep. The bacterial activity during the night produces fermentation that is the reason to the unpleasant taste and smell in our mouths when we wake up in the morning. Under natural conditions, the body can cope with this fermentation without being damaged, but if there are remains of sugar in our mouths during the night, this will lead to tooth decay. To prevent the unpleasant smell in the morning, try eating some fruit or drinking fresh juice after you have rinsed your mouth. This act will accelerate the production of fresh saliva and return the required balance to the mouth. If your gum tissue is not in good condition, it might be for the best if you forgo daily use of your toothbrush, and use tools such as "hydro floss". A soft toothbrush can be used once a week of two only for polishing. Of course, in whatever activity that you use, the first thing should be to set up a series of treatments to fix affected teeth, in order to prevent caries from spreading and to remove the unpleasant smell in the mouth that comes from decay. Then you will be able to start using dental floss or washing your mouth out with water. As long as you maintain the sugar in your mouth balanced, this method of cleaning should be sufficient as well as allowing the tissue to renew itself more quickly.

5. Neglecting regular visits to dentist

Considering the discussions in Chapter 3, and in section 3, above, if gum diseases ware a result of hygienic negation, along with the disease, we would expect to find sick teeth. Since many gum disease sufferers has high hygienic orientation, end up losing well-maintained teeth, the excuse of neglecting dental hygiene and regular visits to the dentist seems more like encouraging patients to spend more money on routine dental care, that eventually brings no results.

6. Smoking and gum disease

Speaking about smoking, I want to start by saying something that might make you see this habit from a different point of view;when you think that you smoke a cigarette, you do not really smoke a cigarette. In fact, the cigarette smokes you. If you want to see it in a different way, you are actually smoking yourself, while the cigarette is just the means! Although smoking has a substantial influence on the development of and recovery from the disease, it should not be considered as the direct cause of the disease. When you expose body's tissue is to concentrated smoke, it actually breaks apart in a process of being smoked, just like the smoking process that we do with certain fish and meat. For damaged, unhealthy and sensitive gum tissue, smoke is a crucial stress factors. The more smoke that penetrates the mouth, the dryer the tissue gets and the higher the damage it cause. Cigarette smoke contains hundreds of chemicals, brings about drastic environmental changes in the mouth, and since the gum tissue is not suited to those elements, it is likely that sensitive tissue will develop certain diseases and worsen the common gum diseases. If you already have gum tissue problems, it would be for the best to take responsibility and leave this harmful habit behind. Although smoking is a ruinous habit, the fact that many of the gum diseases sufferers are not smoking, shows that is not a condition. Moreover, I never met anyone that was cured from a gum disease due to stop smoking. The connection between those who are smoking to gum diseases, is mostly due to the fact that many of the smokers are also addict to black coffee (coffee and cigarette is a well known combination). However, we cannot ignore the damage that smoking does. Tobacco smoke, or any other smoke which we let into our mouths, is hot and dry. It dries the mouth, causes moisture imbalance and disrupts the acidity level in the mouth. This step will allow your body to heal faster and more efficient and, bring great improve your health in many other aspects. If smoking cigarettes damages, smoking hashish or marijuana is a disaster to the gum tissue. Unlike tobacco, smoke from these substances causes extreme dryness of the mouth. The ensuing contraction of the gum tissue cells and blood vessels will invalidate all progress that have been achieved by giving up consuming hot drinks, and would exacerbate the condition.

To understand the connection between smoking and gum disease (particularly receding of the gums), it is necessary to thoroughly understand the significance of craving and addiction.

Smoking and addiction

Receding of the gums develops over a number of years during which time various local factors affect the gum tissue, causing it to dry out and shrink. Eventually, by virtue of the gradual change, our subconscious learns to acknowledge the shrunken tissue as normal. Once we start remedying the situation and the tissue undergoes beneficial changes, our subconscious instinctively tries to revert to what it had come to recognize as normal. This hidden desire is called craving, which makes the person suffering from receding of the gums to hanker after a cup of hot beverage, a cigarette or spicy food, which will dry the tissue again and revert the situation. This is how smokers obsessively sabotage the recovery process, and so no particular improvement is seen. To rid yourself easily of these habits you would first have to understand the degree of sensitivity and damage. Then remove all the things you wish to give up from the house, whatever they are. Since craving feeds your needs, the first days are likely to be hard and unsettled and you might find yourself climbing the walls. Before long you will get used to the change, you will calm down and see that it is possible to do things differently. Life without this sort of dependence is beautiful, and the improvement to your gum tissue will be the true and long-term reward for your hard-earned efforts.

I dont want to be thought of as a killjoy. As far as I am concerned, it is a matter of live and let live as long you do not hurt anyone else. However, if you want to recover from gum disease, it is important to be aware of the price one pays for pleasures and the relevance our way of life has on the quality of our future.

7. Lack of vitamin C
Lack of vitamin C may cause serious illness.

We know that lack of Vitamin C may cause serious illness, such as scurvy. One of the symptoms of scurvy that might confus us with the gum inflammation is breakable blood vessels that cause spontaneous bleedings. The bleeding that associate with the lack of vitamin C has no connection to the bleeding that caused by the infection. Since the lack of a vitamin will affect the various body tissues, we would expect to find the bleedings in various tissues, and the symptoms would be connected to one another. The lack of any vitamin would cause health problem in several body systems that need the vitamin. The fact that in those diseases only affect the gum tissue, point out that the problem is endemic. As "stand alone" diseases, gum diseases develop because of a factor that directly affects the gums, with no other tissues involved. Allow me to expend on this idea: If we suffer from lack of calcium, out teeth will be fragile, but not only them. In fact, out whole bones system will suffer from the same lack, and will be fragile, with tendency to break. The same with the lack of iron - that will affect the whole body. This principal will work for the lack of any other substance. This is why, from my point of view, the lack of vitamin C should not be considered as a cause of the common gum diseases. If indeed the lack of vitamin C were the factor, we would expect to see a significant improvement in the situation of sufferers after taking Vitamin C. the fact is that nobody got cured from those diseases due to the consuming foods the are reach in certain vitamins or minerals.

8. Pregnancy is a time that needs more nourishing, comforting hot drinks.

Pregnancy is one of womans greatest projects, and pregnant women are pamper themselves. Hot drinks should not be part of that program!
The fact that many women got the peak of the gum disease and many times lose their teeth while in pregnancy, lead the researchers to an assumption that pregnancy is one of the possible sources of gum disease. Follow these findings, scientists came up with a theory, that the fetus, for its own development, uses vitamins, minerals and other substances the mothers gum tissue needs for its health. The poor baby gets the blame for his mother's sins and misery, before he is even born

From an objective awareness point of view, which I intend to introduce by this book, the medical correlation between the disease and pregnancy is arbitrary. The way I see it, the reason for the eruption of gum diseases in pregnancy, is behavioral, and this is how it works: Pregnancy is accompanied by not a few concerns and worries, that rises the needs for relaxation and comfort, better nourishing and healthcare. Many women that during their super-project, naturally meet the need for increased liquids, drinks hot beverages, which, as we are led to believe, in addition to quenching our thirst, are also has great health value and they makes us feel good. With all these advantages, who needs water? In this way, the pregnant woman combines her increasing need for liquids, indulgence, compensation and reinforcement with heat. For this increasing consumption of hot drinks, during pregnancy, many women will experience an extreme deterioration of the gums, which could well reach the stage of gum collapse or loss of teeth. This combination of reasons means that during pregnancy many women will experience an extreme deterioration of the gums that could well reach the stage of gum collapse or loss of teeth. If pregnancy was a cause of gum diseases, then they would be a feminine disease, and we would be less likely to find men suffering from it. As was discussed above, pregnancy cannot be an accepted factor in the development of gum diseases. Although the disease may be accelerated during pregnancy, it is not the pregnancy that accelerates it. the real cause hides in the changes in behavior during pregnancy. Back to TOC

Bring back the color to your smile and the youth to your face
Gum diseases make the face look older than their potential.
If you see an older person with healthy gums, you will find that he looks much younger and more vivacious in compare to normal people of similar age. The reason for this is the perceptible facial changes that occur due to the gum disease. Deformation of the gum tissue that causes shifting and crooked teeth; protruding and long teeth due to the recession of the gums; changes in tissue color, false teeth that loose their fit and mouth, or gums that looks ripped and tired due to repeated gum operations every several years. Even if you spend an untold sum of money, you will not find a jewel that can adorn a face like the natural teeth found in healthy and sparkling gums. Most of the not-so-young readers that got used to the gradual change in the look of their faces and mouths over the years, may think that things arent so bad. They may abide by the maxim The face changes over the years anyway and that is how it should be. or Thats a part of growing old; But it doesnt. By now, you should understand that the changes are part of an ongoing decline, and the time bomb adds a tick with each sip of something hot or warm that you embrace. The inevitable explosion, comes unexpectedly, and strikes fast, painfully and merciless.

Although gum disease is slow to develop, at some point, the final attack happens so quickly that without having time to think, we become victims to a very cruel process that leaves us ripped off in many aspects. Without taking drastic steps to change our lifestyle as soon as possible, you will always discover that things can get worse. If you do not want to travel the accepted path, and to become another medical statistic of failed long-term treatment, you must withdraw from these unnatural pleasures and harmful habits. It is important to point out that, no matter what stage you are at, following the suggested program for curing gum disease will restore the functionality, and a part of the vitality and attractiveness you thought you had lost. The sooner you decide to halt the disease the luckier you are. The recovery process will be easier and quicker, since the amount of damage that has been caused to the gum tissue is an important parameter which determines the speed of the rehabilitation. Furthermore, now that you understand the ravage that hot drinks and foods do to your mouth and gums, you can help prevent the rest of your family from succumbing. Do not let them slip into the hot drink trap. Let them grow up beautiful and healthy. If you really care for your health, it is important that you will know that giving up the immoral pleasures of consuming hot food and drink, has a great holistic value. Beyond the esthetic value of the natural color and vitality to your gums, beautiful gums are healthy gums, which are a part of a healthy body that functions well in many other aspects. I will give an example to illustrate the last paragraph. What you are going to hear now might shock you, but I assure you, it is the absolute truth. Back in 1995, I got a desperate phone call from an old acquaintance that complained about excruciating pain and mobility of her teeth. She knew about the book that I wrote years ago, but so far, she did not want to give up the habit of drinking hot drinks. Now, the situation got unbearable, and she asked where she could buy it. Because she does not live far away, I gave her first class service and brought the book to her house. Two weeks after she read the book, she called me excitedly and told me that the pain and the looseness had completely disappeared. Several months later, she called and told me that she got pregnant, after many years of trying in vain. She said that she felt that there was a connection between the cure from the gum problem and the pregnancy, and asked my opinion about it. I felt the same, and I explained it this way: in our daily life, without being aware, we are existing in a hostile environment, where the body is being attacked constantly. The more attacks that the body absorbs and suffers, the more chance, that at a certain point, it will cut off the mechanism of its continuity because it feels that the environment does not suit for a next generation. The minute you stop the attack of the hostile factors and the body returns to normal, it releases the mechanisms and activates the opportunity of bringing a next generation. When the body suffers from severe infection, the whole system is imbalanced, since a lot of energy is delivered to the prevention of the disease spreading and recovering its damages. This comes on the account of systems that are not in use for daily functioning, such as the breeding system, and this might be a reason for the change. When the infection stops, the whole system is more relaxed, and the distribution of the energy allows the body to function more efficiently in all the aspects. Back to TOC

Chapter 16: How to Cure Gum Disease

How to treat receding gums
The following treatment is the only one that is for life. I recommend it at any stage, even if you have already lost teeth or had gum operations, as long as you no longer wish to follow the path that will bring you again and again to meetings with the surgeons knife and other complex and expensive treatments. It is the only path that will ensure that you will totally released from the consequences of gum diseases in the future. From what you have read so far, it should be clear that receding gums are not an uncontrollable nature disaster that appeared for no apparent reason. As long as the causes are an integral part of your life, you cannot hope for health just from surgery and wonder drugs. Those who wish to continue living on this battlefield and fight the diseases in medical means must understand; in this war, like any other war, there are no winners. Victory is short-lived, and if we do not halt the disease as early on as possible by living in harmony, we will, at a certain stage, have to fight in a new battle, while our system worn down and the enemy becomes stronger. Be aware that even today, with all the latest information and advanced technology, with the abundance of medication and advanced treatments, science has still not found a way to bring back to life cooked, smoked or processed tissues. This is why when the disease has resulted from past and on-going cooking or smoking, it is wrong to expect for the salvation from medical or scientific treatment. Such treatments might bring a temporary relief at a very high price of suffering pain, expenses and trauma to the sick tissue that only needs to live in peace. The only way to avoid the suffering from these diseases is to call a cease-fire with the mouth and stop the diseasestimulating attacks, thereby allowing the body to rehabilitate itself naturally. As much the gum tissue has been damaged and cooked, it is still part of a living body which has amazing recovery capabilities, over and above any medication that man could ever invent. By enabling the body to recover in its own miraculous way, at least, you will prevent further damage and avoid suffering and expenses. As a primary condition, if we choose to rely on our body find the way to recovery, we must leave it alone to do the job properly and meticulously maintain the most natural environment possible. Just so that you dont think that there is a conspiracy going on I would like to make it quite clear that this book is not declaim tea, coffee, soup or any beverage food in particular. It was written to point out and emphasis the importance of the energy balance and to demonstrate the destructive potential of upsetting it in a living system (and for some other issues that will be discussed later). Keep your balance! First thing in the morning, drink two cups of water to keep your bodies balanced and clean. Water is the most significant basis of life. Whenever you feel thirsty, think of the role of water in life. The sea, which is not hot, supports a rich and complex life; there are very few, and very simple forms of life that can exist in hot water springs. The higher the temperature the less life you will find. If you feel the need to vary your drink intake, then try cold herb teas, or cold lemon tea, as tasty and effective alternatives. It is extremely important for your success, that you will avoid drinking or eating in any temperature, which is beyond what we define as the room temperature.

Cut out all food and beverages above the room's temperature. To make it clear: unequivocally stop consuming any sort of heat, whether is defined as hot or just warm. As with any change, from force of habit, the beginning might prove to be difficult but after a few days or weeks of acclimatization or calling it in more true word "weaning", you will discover that it is possible, and at a certain stage this new habit even becomes pleasant, cheap and comfortable. After a few months of cleansing and restoring sensation to the gums, you will fill the damage from every seep immediately. From now on, you will find that it is difficult, even impossible to drink anything hot. Furthermore, you will probably ask yourself how you ever consumed hot drinks in the first place.

Clean away the tartar

If you want to cure receding gums, cutting out hot foods and drinks is crucial, but it is not enough. A part of providing the gum tissue with an environment that will allow it to renew the damage and rehabilitate, is to clean up. Get an appointment with your dental hygienist in order to get your mouth ready for its recovery program. Having the tartar (calculus) cleared from the tooth neck will allow clean and fast closure of the periodontal pockets. If you manage to avoid hot food and drink, it is more than likely that even if you need your teeth cleaned occasionally, it certainly will not be so often. Instead of going through this procedure every year or so, you will need to go back to the hygienist again in five years or even more. A less invasive and even pleasant way of getting rid of tartar is, by consuming citrus fruit, particularly lemon. Drinking orange juice or lemonade (made from freshly squeezed lemons) from time to time, or even sucking fresh lemon segments, will do a great job. The acidity of citrus fruit breaks down the scale on the teeth, and it is naturally secreted via the body. Lemonade preparation: Squeeze half a lemon into a glass, add about four teaspoons of sugar (you can find consolation with the fact that a glass of cola contains seven teaspoons of sugar), fill the glass with water, stir and satisfy your thirst. This will clean your teeth - and will also do a good job cleaning your blood vessels and improve the blood stream. You can enjoy tea with lemon, but make sure that the drink is at room temperature. Squeeze the lemon into the tea after it has cooled, in order not to lose its essential qualities. Do not exaggerate the quantities of lemon and/or sugar that you use. Too much and you will cause an imbalance of acids in the mouth, that might be harmful.

If you are smoking, its time to give it up - now you hava a good reason.
Now that you realize the damage and suffer you cause to yourself for so many years, its time to make it up and make it easy on you body. To get the best results, you need to overcome and give up harming habits. The good tiding though is that while working with the research group of people with gum disease, I have found that there was a correlation between smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee. Again, that coffee and a cigarette" thing, just seem to go together, and now it's easier to understand why. However, people that developed their consciences and responsibility to a level that helped them give up the hot food and beverages, seemed to leave behind the smoking habit as well. If you do not think you can give up smoking, at least, reduce the number of cigarettes you smoke, starting today. If you have managed to get rid of your addiction to heat and from your reliance on hot drinks and food, I trust your ability to make another step towards healing.

Be consistent and stick to the program

Be aware that because of the ongoing trauma that your gum tissue has undergone for so many years of abusing while the disease was developing, it is highly sensitive, and it needs all the compassion and the consideration that you can give. This sensitivity can be defined as "allergy to heat" that the gum tissue suffering from. That is why, once you start the program, the least bit of heat can cause a further disproportional serious inflammation or shrinkage. If you are not willing to distance yourself totally from hot food and drink, you might as well "enjoy your life" and drink as much as you want. Yet, in which case, you cannot expect any improvement of the inflammation or the receding of the gum. Think twice if you are planning to get away with a cup of something hot or even warm just one seep. The long-term damage caused to the tissue from coping with artificial heat weakens the tissue and makes it more vulnerable to damage. If you follow the rules carefully, you will be surprised how quickly your body rehabilitates itself.

Be patient and kind to yourself

Earlier we discussed some of the tricky obstacles that you will face on your way to the goal, and you need to overcome. Here is the final one you will have to confront. If you have been served hot soup and you need to drink it within a certain time, do not be embraced to put some ice cube in it until It balance its temperatures with the room temperature, and make it safe and unharmed. If you are spending time with friends / colleagues, avoid ordering hot beverage, since most chances that you will not manage to wait until it cools before social pressure or time pressure begins. If you want to enjoy the taste of blanching, have some ice cubes on hand.

Try to avoid experimenting

Although this method might seem logical and simple, changing your life-style may not be as easy. The challenge entailed will examine your spiritual side, even cultivating and developing it. The more you are developed, the faster and cleaner you will rehabilitate. I am sure that, at first, you will test the boundaries of your sensitivity by trying out various temperatures. However, I would like to make it quite clear that the fewer experiments you make the faster and more noticeable the improvement will be.

How to monitor the temperature of the foods you eat

Luckily, from the gum disease point of view, there are no limits to eating any sort of food. Whether it is cooked or fried or baked, you can enjoy them all. It is only the temperature at which it is eaten in important. If you are not sure whether the temperature is safe, you do not need to walk around with a thermometer in your pocket. Nature has endowed us with a builtin energy-meter. We use this energy meter intuitively, when a child is not feeling well, as the mother touches his forehead with her lips. If she feels heat from the forehead, then she knows that the child has a fever. The same mechanism can work here and do a great job. All you have to do is test the food or drink with your lips. If you feel any sort of heat, do not put it into your mouth! This refers to any kind of heat, particularly lukewarm, which acts as a devious trap that many people fall into.

Begin gum massage

Before starting an active treatment, you should let the tissue undergo primary recovery period of a few weeks or even months, according to t

e amount of damage done and your recovery ability. This period is essential for corrective therapy, rehabilitation of damaged blood vessels, dulled nerve cells and wrinkled tissue cells. During the rehabilitation process as the blood flow and the metabolism renews, the tissue will adsorb liquids and the pressure of the stressed tissue will continually lessen. It is important not to start before you feel a significant reduction in the stress and the tension in the tissue. Once the gum tissue has become looser, softened and more flexible, you can begin gently massaging it, to help it return to its original shape. First, wash your hands thoroughly with water, then wet it with saliva, and continue to be attentive to cleanliness. Rub gently over the damaged tissue, in a direction from the jaw towards the tooth crown (downward on the upper teeth, upward on the lower). Find the trouble spots, where you feel the sensitivity or where the teeth are unstable. Naturally, these are the places where the gum recession is the worst and around the tooth neck where the rings of gum tissue have contracted. Try rubbing in different directions and in gentle circles so that the tooth neck will be uniformly covered. To accelerate the recovery process, dip your finger in a little honey. The honey is absorbed by the tissue cells, nourishing them, contributing to their energy and revitalizing them. Just as with the lemon, exaggeration can have an adverse affect on the teeth and the bodies other systems. This is why you need to be attentive and careful. As with any other factor that causes imbalance, although by definition it might be useful and beneficial, too much or too often, will reduce the positive affect increase the negative. Thereby causing an adverse effect culminating in the opposite result to the one wanted. We must let time work on our side, just like a tree whose roots gradually penetrate the rock face. Do not try to hurry the process of healing your gum tissue as you may end up with the opposite effect. The length of time for massaging the gums is individual. Usually it can last anything from two minutes and up to half an hour, and is best at nighttime.

WARNING Be gentle with your gum tissue and do not place any pressure on it. Pressure can tear the impaired tissue, causing further damage that will be difficult to correct.

It is not necessary to massage your gums every day as the tissue needs to rest between each massage. You should massage them when the tissue feels relaxed and not tense. Never reach pain. Pain is a sign that you are rubbing too hard or too long, causing damage that may take a long time to heal. Your gum tissue does not need this additional aggravation. The idea is to heal it. If you have inadvertently caused the gum tissue to bleed or hurt, then stop the treatment immediately and let the tissue rest for a few days, or even weeks, until the problem passes. Only then should you very carefully resume massaging. Once you have reached the stage where the nerve cells are again covered by the gum tissue, your teeth are steady and are no longer sensitive, then you can decide how often to massage, according to how you feel. Physical activity You can speed up the recovery process by stimulating the blood circulation with aerobic physical activity or exercise. This will help enhance the blood flow and help the blood vessels in the body return to their original form.

Avoid acidic and sweet foods.

Avoid drinking soft drinks, which contain acids and caramel, sugar and other dire straits, as long as the state of the receding gums includes exposed tooth neck and deep gum pockets. These substances damage the delicate cementum covering and could lead to complications.

Even though we tend to see ourselves as an advanced civilization, cooking our own tissues with hot drinks, that have become customary the world, is a barbaric custom which none really enlightened civilization can be proud of.

Conclusion
Despite the meteoric advancement of science and medicine throughout the last centuries and decades, the fact that supposedly simple principles of gum disease are beyond the grasp of the whole humankind, raises quiet a few essential questions. In fact, understanding these diseases at a level that makes it possible to prevent and cure naturally, requires a completely different approach to what we call "the normal" one. As long as people live in a state of mind that does not allow them to recognize the factor of those diseases, they will not be able to control their ever-deteriorating situation. The common man is thus a victim of the system; Induced to follow a dead-end road, disabled from thinking, identifying and understanding the real source of his distress and misery. As long as you do not recognize the real causes of the disease, continuous exposure to their precursors will keep the disease right on the track, where the destructive process will continue. As your situation will worsen, from time to time your lifestyle will lead you to the progressive stages of the disease. During the development of the disease, the more the gum tissue becomes distorted, the more that artificial structures such as false teeth or implants to lose their fit and become inefficient and annoying. For this reason, most people need to undergo repeat treatments every few years for adjustments, to replace the false teeth, or to repeat surgery. Contrary to what we were brought up or would like to believe, the medical establishment is based on tough, capitalistic, economic foundations. These economic interests automatically suppress non-profitable concepts that could remedy, or even

eradicate certain diseases and prevent suffering or expense, promoting instead an aggressive approach of complex, and profitable, treatments. Instead of encouraging a lifestyle that prevents the onset of misery, something that we might expect from a health system, we are educated to live a life of wanton abandon, filled with destructive habits that cause the body to succumb to illness. Then, faced with pain and dysfunction, we are send into unnecessary, painful medical treatments and surgical procedures that cost an arm and a leg, and leave us in debt, and physically and emotionally incapacitated. In our present civilization, where economic interests guide the behavior of public-opinion shapers, it is most rare to find anyone that will guide you on what to avoid for maintaining your health. Rather, most official authorities tend to advise us what to use when recommending ways of maintaining health. This is because the profit lies in encouraging consumption. Thus, dull and unsexy gum diseases get wide media exposure whenever scientific R&D comes up with new wonder drugs and various medical weapons or treatments. Antiseptic preparations, new antibiotics, disinfectant rinsing fluids, enzyme tablets, etc. join the innumerable mechanical hygiene accessories already available over the counter. All aimed at treating the symptoms of those diseases. In order to encourage consumption, some products are endorsed by celebrities or other well-known personalities, whom we admire and identify with. The industrys huge budgets inflate the sails of the research laboratories, and set the wheels of the well-oiled advertising and public relations systems in motion, making sure that the media raises the public's hopes along with the investments in their new products. Toothpaste manufacturers also join the sells party. Taking advantage of the distress caused by the high incidence of gum disease, they advertise their products with promises to remedy receding of the gums or inflamed gums or ease sensitive teeth. Buy our product, they cajole, and with regular daily hygiene, you will cure your problems.. Indeed, purchasing and using all those over-the-counter treatments, makes the sufferers even more unaware of the deterioration until the last stages of the succumb. The sufferers might kill the pain or the other symptoms, but the disease does not stop there. It will still end up following a lengthy trail of costly tribulations. As the tissue gets eroded, each stage of treatment gets more extreme - culminating in meetings with the surgeons knife, extractions, and, finally, implanting teeth, implanting jawbone, and other goodies which have a drastic effect on the quality of life as on the financial situation. Those who cannot afford implants, which are expensive and more comfortable, must make do with installing false teeth. When the gum tissue succumbs to the disease, life cannot continue normally because the sufferers are unable to function in the most basic activities. They encounter eating problems due to unstable teeth, they suffer pain due to sensitivity from sweet and sour tastes, cold and hot at a level that even feel great pain while breathing through their mouth due to unbearable sensitivity in the tooth roots. They suffer from pain caused by gum sores and cysts, bleeding and other disturbing phenomena related to the disease. The changes the shape of the face due to the distorted gum tissue, causing worries about the way they look. At this stage, when the disease can no longer be ignored, the poor sufferers rush to the nearest dentist for a complex treatment prepared to do anything. As you read on, you will realize that as long as the problem has not been fully understood, all these treatments are prone to failure, since the factors that caused the disease in the first place, continue to affect and damage the gum tissue in an incessant way. Even if you have already undergone the most expensive and sophisticated medical treatment for the disease, you had better internalize it: you cannot be complacent. No treatment will provide a real long-term solution. No surgeon and no periodontist will ever give any guarantee that the situation will not recur and that your travails have ended. If you want to avoid complex and expensive gum treatments in the future, you need to adopt the concepts in book. The need for surgery or gum treatment in the first place indicates that you are sensitive to the factors that cause the disease. Therefore, you need to be extra careful about being exposed to those factors in order to avoid becoming a victim of the next stage of the disease. Unless you make unequivocal changes in your lifestyle that absolutely will ensure that you do not expose yourself to continued potential hazards, further periodontal surgery and treatment will only be a matter of time. Appendix A: Treating Traumatically or The Last Supper

Are you worried about your children's craving for chocolate and other sweets? Besides causing caries and the risk of getting fat, excessive consumption of sugar-rich foods raises the likelihood of blood and intestinal parasites, such as worms and fungi, so it is worth to suppress such craving, especially

if it can be done effortlessly and even fun, in one fell swoop by inducing a trauma. Here is an example of what I did at home. You can use it if you like.

After I have found my 12 years old daughter and her friend grabbing bars of chocolate from the cupboard on a regular basis, I decided to put an end to it. I made a deal with them. You like chocolate a lot, dont you? Sure, they said! Im ready to bring you the best chocolates to be had but on one condition that you eat as much as I bring. The girls excitedly agreed. With not a minute to lose, I went to the corner store, bought fifteen bars of chocolate filled with all the different types of creams imaginable, broke them up into pieces and served them in a large bowl. My daughter and her friend waited impatiently to start binging. On the word go they attacked the chunks of cream-filled chocolate and ate, and ate, and ate. When they were about halfway through, they started giving each other looks as if to say How much more? The squares of chocolate started disappearing slower and slower. One more was forced down the throat, then another slowly made its way to the mouth, and then they gave up. Since then they havent hankered after chocolate. It is preferable to shock the system with a lot of sugar in one go in order to stamp out the craving once and for all, rather than letting the damage accumulate bit by bit and develop for years. Appendix B: The Way of tartar: the Behavior of Particles in Hard Water

All substances are made up of atoms, which are bound together chemically into molecules. The structure of an atom is that of dense core (nucleus) surrounded by electrically charged entities known as electrons. The nucleus, which is formed of both positive and "neutral" particles, has a positive charge. The electrons, which orbit the nucleus like hyperactive planets around the sun, have what is known as a negative electric charge. Atoms (and molecules) that has the same mass of negative and positive particles are in a stable state. However, there are times when an atom loses or gains one or more electrons. These so-called ions, are thus in a state of electrical imbalance. Ions can be either negative or positive, depending on whether they have gained (negative charge) or lost (positive charge) one or more electrons. Negative ions (with surplus electrons) are denoted by "-" and positively charged ions (lacking electrons) are denoted by "+."

Model of positive ion

Model of negative ion

The unstable ions try to recover their stability by undergoing some type of chemical reaction. Thus, negative ions seek out positive ones in order to transfer surplus electrons, and positive ions are seek out negative ones in order to receive electrons and get balanced. During a chemical reaction, ions balance their electrons and return to a stable state. This electronic merging of ions creates a molecule that is a new material, with different characteristics. Usually it is more stable then the components that have created it. In order for chemical reactions to occur, certain conditions must be met to initiate the process. The most prevalent influences on the reaction in nature and in industry are heating, cooling, applying pressure, electrical current, or substances that will induce or facilitate chemical reactions, called catalysts. Water is excellent solvents, and because of this property, it allows many ions to dissolve in it easily. Therefore, water, even though it looks clear and pure, it usually contains many various minerals that dissolved into it while the water flowed into reservoir. The more ions dissolved in it, the harder the water is. (Only distilled water is chemically pure.) These ions, both positive and negative, will remain in their separate states in cool water, happily clinging to the water molecules. However, should a factor that can induce a chemical process appear, the ions will take leave of their water-molecule hosts and begin zipping around, searching, once more, for a partner to help them stabilize. The factor that causes the minerals to change their composition is the heat energy that we supply when we boil water for preparing a hot drink. When heating up hard water, electrically charged ions detach from the water molecules and reattach themselves to inverse ions. These new and different molecules are now extremely stable substance with totally different properties from the original ions. Among the minerals found in water these substances presence in the water is what makes it "hard water". The more they are concentrated, the harder the water. Positive ions (has an extra protons) Mg2+ = magnesium ion Ca2+ = calcium ion

Negative ions (has an extra electrons) 2HCO3- = bicarbonate ion CO32- = carbonate ion

Note: Mg2+ and Ca2+ are substances that defined hard water Theses ions found in drinking water that are directly related to tartar.

The scale production process

As water is heated, the bicarbonate ion (2HCO3-) gradually breaks down, discharging carbon dioxide (CO2) into the air and releasing water (H2O). The substance left following this process is the carbonate (CO32-). Due to the heat applied, this negative ion, carbonate, easily reacts with the Ca2+ or Mg2+ found in the water to create calcium carbonate, CaCO3 ( chalk) or magnesium carbonate, MgCO3. These mineral substances accumulate every time water is heated. These substances that form the sediments that we call scale or tartar, depending on the context. Due to the changes that the ions undergo during the heating process, they establish their equilibrium. Their electrical charge is counterbalanced, and the charges disappear from the end product. This is what the formula describing the chemical reactions during the creation of scale looks like:

Appendix C: The Revelation

I was born in 1961. In my twenties, like many other healthy young people, I had no idea that this problem even exists. I had strong teeth that I used as a power tool to cut cable, crack nuts and many other tasks. Except for fillings, I never suffered from pain or inability, and I never realized that the problem was gathering momentum. For a long period, I was blissfully unaware that my gums had been slowly receding. At around age 30, when I started noticing that my gum tissues were disappearing, I went, ignorant as I was, to a dermatologist. He sent me straight to the dentist who explained the problem away with, Its hereditary; theres nothing to be done at this stage. As soon as it starts bothering you, come back and I will do what it takes. When I was 32, I came to the shocking realization that my teeth and gums were betraying me. As my gums had gotten worse, I could not ignore the extent of the disease any longer. I had excruciating pain and super-sensitivity to cold, hot, sweet and sour; even breathing through the mouth was agonizing, since the cold air freeze my nerves. As my teeth started wobbling, I could not chew and I had to take many types of foods of my diet. Imagine that in those days, basic things, like chewing bread or even chewing gum, looked to me as something that I would never enjoy again. It was then that my world came to a standstill. This stage of the disease that I reached at the age of 32, I call the collapse. My mouth just gave up and wasnt functioning. There were bleeding tension spots on my gums. Aesthetically speaking, smiling was out of the question. My self-confidence plummeted and the situation was having a severe psychological effect on me. This felt like the shock of an earthquake to me. The teeth, that I had relied on and used all my life for so many purposes became loose and wobbly, making me feel vulnerable and helpless. I started thinking how it was possible to expect that the other organs in my body would continue functioning properly, when the teeth, which are the strongest organs in the body, were threatening to collapse so early in my life. The idea of losing my teeth made me totally shattered of impending disaster. It was not only the incapacity from losing ones teeth which I feared, but the image of weakness and inability that the idea of toothlessness conjured to mind. That very same day, I did what anybody else in my situation would have done. I rushed to my dentist for help. Again, he explained that the disease was hereditary, but now he added that I would most likely require surgery or extraction, and he sent me home with the business card of a gum disease specialist that he works with, to get proper advice and treatment. With no knowledge of the disease, sitting on the bus on my way home, desperate and feeling helpless, dark thoughts went through my mind. I was going to lose my teeth at the tender age of 32! After returning home, I took a deep breath and decided not to rush in and contact that gum specialist immediately. Rather then this, I decided to start experimenting on myself to drag time out until I would have to Part Company from my teeth. Little did I imagine that these experiments would be a revelation, and would change my life-style and lead me along the path of understanding and avoiding the progress of those diseases as well as many others. I begun by trying to analyze what the symptoms were, and how I could alleviate them. I decided to try gum massage; to return my receding gums and see if that would help me feel better. Gum massage seemed to lead to an immediate improvement both in sensitivity and in functionality, but after a while, the problem would deteriorate. At that point, of course, I still did not understand the consequences of hot drinks, and I continued making myself coffee throughout the day. After drinking the coffee, chaos once again reigned in my mouth: the pain, sensitivity and instability of my teeth all returned, and so the cycle continued: massage, cup of coffee, deterioration, more massage feeling better, another cup of coffee and more deterioration. Then, I started to suspect a connection between the coffee and the deterioration, but since I used to think in materialistic terms, I thought that it the root of the problem was the materials in the coffee, so, I switched to tea; but the same thing happened. I took some cups of tea until it hit me. I suddenly realized and internalized that the problem wasnt with the type of drink but with the energy! Understanding the cause and the process and realizing the damage I had done to myself for years, induced an intense physical and spiritual experience that shook me up for about fortnight. Ever since, I got completely distanced from the accepted medical ways and from the scientific and medical explanations of many disease that cause suffer, reliance, desperation and death. Moreover, the more I understood the economic motives that guide the system, the more I lost my confidence in the medical establishment. The visions As a result of this experience, my life changed from stem to stern, opening up my eyes and making me see and understand many issues from a totally different mindset. With my conditioned consciousness beginning to fall apart like a huge iceberg, it hit me. I suddenly visualized the body as a pattern of energy, and understood the physiologic system work from the energetic aspect.

All at once, I arrived at distinct answers to thousands of questions on health and existence, and gained insight into the cause of the development of innumerable diseases and physical distresses that science cannot explain since it suffers from partial blindness. During this period, when awareness flooded my mind, my physical being was affected too. I found it difficult to eat and function properly, my body trembled, I would break out in cold sweats and I felt as if I were in shock and I needed to be strong to keep my sanity. It was the time I had my series of visions of which I see as a part of the enlightenment. In the first vision, that reinforced me with understanding the gum disease, I saw a virgin beach, untamed and surrounded by cliffs and hills. The sea was teeming with schools of opulent fish. The cliffs were covered with lush vegetation with countless birds flitting about. Everything appeared so rich, stable and perfect, that it seems as nothing could possibly spoil it. Suddenly, I saw a huge wave of hot water that came from the sea and washed up against the cliffs. As the water ran back into the sea, there were fewer plants on the cliffs, less fish in the sea and fewer birds in the air. The hot waves continued to break onto the shore, each time leaving less life behind them. Some time later, after the hot waves had washed up on the beach, the cliffs, the vegetation and the fish had completely disappeared. This same cliff, which, a few images earlier had appeared to be evergreen and everlasting, had turned into a wasteland. This was not a dream. I had this vision a hundreds of times in a loop following my illumination. I realized that this amazing sight had materialized to encourage me to have deeper internalizing of what my mouth is going through, and make the necessary changes to stop the demolition. I interpreted that the cliffs signified the teeth; the seawater represented liquids in the mouth; the hot waves were the sips of hot beverages, which I had been drinking in relatively large quantities. The analogy between my visions and the serious condition I was in at that time, led me to see the mouth as a mini-world with a delicate balance of millions of microorganisms, which requires an energy balance to be maintained within narrow organic confines, in order fore the system to exist. The heat waves from food and drink upset the balance of energy: attacking the mouth, flooding the teeth and gums, damaging the tissue cells and the oral microorganism balance, and slowly but surely, over the years decaying the tissues vitality. This daily pattern, which we unconsciously let take place over a long period, actually causes a micro-ecological holocaust in the mouth, culminating in a chronic disease. Once I processed information on the diseases development, the clear and logical conclusion encouraged me to take all the necessary steps to save my own little world and let it rehabilitate itself. The reward was not only that the changes in my lifestyle halted the deterioration of my gums, but also led to an amazing improvement during this process of natural healing, that had previously been unimaginable. Nowadays, more then fifteen years after, without any medical intervention, no suffer and no cost, I live in peace with my mouth. I have my natural teeth and I use them just as I used to before the crisis. The unpleasant symptoms the pain, the sensitivity and the shifting of my teeth - totally disappeared in no time at all, and my mouth functions properly. Perhaps the most important, is the fact that I have the confident that this horror will never reoccur. The amazing results from my life-style changes, demonstrated the bodies aspire to wholeness, as well as its wonderful ability to heal itself from serious conditions, as long as it is not disturbed or harmed. In my excitement, I tried talking to my dentist, as well as other doctors I knew, trying to share my experience and to convince them to research on the subject. The doctors reactions totally disappointed me, as I faced their disapproval and contempt. The main excuse that they used was that the facts and explanations that I presented, had never been officially researched and did not appear in any medical source. Turning to the Ministry of Health ended up with a surprising reaction from a switchboard operator with a French accent who said that, if I were not a doctor or a medical student, they have nothing to do with it, and the only way to get the message to the public would be via the media. Unfortunately, since I was not representing any familiar medical discipline, the media rejected me out of hand, before I barely had a chance to open my mouth. I soon realized that I was in a Catch-22 situation, and the only way left to me to reach others suffering from the same problem and enable them to avoid suffering, would be by writing a book. Therefore, in 1997 I published the book "Things You Won't Hear from Your Doctor" in Israel. This book was an orphan. In my efforts to give it some exposure through journalists, I contact with some public figures, but it felt as if I was standing against something like the Chinese wall (although some of those figures asked for couple of books to hand out to their family and friends ). The research Prior to writing this book, in order to prove that my recovery was not a medical miracle or a coincidence, as many claimed, I gathered a group of more than fifty participants. The common denominator was that they all suffered from inflammation of the gums or receding gums to one extent or another. It was clear from their answers to the initial questionnaire that all the participants had similar habits, which matched the basic suppositions of the concept. They all used to drink at list five cups of hot beverage every day. In meetings that I arranged, I explained them the theory of the energy imbalance cause, and asked them to make changes in their life-style,

giving up the habits suspected of being causal factors of the disease. Those who were totally dedicated to the required changes experienced an amazing improvement to their gum tissue relatively quickly. Surprisingly, I found that the more serious the condition the more dramatic the improvement. We achieved complete success regarding prevention of tooth extraction, surgery and medical treatment that would previously seem necessary. This success, which is unrivalled in modern or any other medicine, totally reinforced the basic premise of this concept. Despite this success, however, it should be acknowledged that people who suffer from gum disease are usually addicted to the causal factors. Changes in a life-style that had been formed by pre-conceived ideas, beliefs and habits during a lifetime, require spiritual potential at a relatively high level. Some of the participants were, of course, unable to comply with the required changes and their health unavoidably continued to deteriorate. Their unwillingness to give up old habits and a lifestyle, culminated in surgery for most and a farewell to their teeth for some. Back to TOC

Appendix D: Gum Disease as an introduction to Objective Awareness

Objective awareness means being aware of life and the world without any influence from religion, economics, political or any other interests or motives. Awareness is a tool for survival. If it used properly it can help you live complete and healthy life. In a culture where the establishments make fortune from your misery, no one really wants you to be healthy. That is why you must have the right understanding of life in order to keep your wholeness, your health and your abilities to function properly and independently. This book series is not "politically correct." It is aimed to the common people, and it is loyal to what I consider the truth, without any subjective interest. As such, it offers a solution for the diseases that does not require the purchase or use of products or expensive medical treatments. Quite the opposite, it even saves you money by using methods that do not even require products that we are used to purchasing regularly. Like you, I was once convinced that the healthcare systems goal is to keep us healthy. What I have been through for more then a decade, convinced me that I was wrong. After spending long years researching my theories on gum disease, facing the same results over and over again, I contact a number of official bodies, who showed no interest whatsoever in my work and even scoffed it. The clear conclusion that I had reached, is that no official body will get into any research, if there is no economic potential involve. Such research must be financed, and since research and scientific investigation generally require huge sums of money, here comes the part of industrialists, manufacturers and interested parties. It is no wonder that none of those will support research that not only does not ensure them profits, furthermore causes financial loss. To my impression, in a financial system no one would advocate or invest in such research, unless he is actually seeking for the truth and is willing to invest time, money and energy with no intention of future profit. If there is such an angel, I have not found him yet. Back to TOC

Appendix E: If the Answer is so Simple, Why do I Need a Whole Book?

Now we have reached the crux of the matter. Although the general idea behind this book may appear simple at a glance, you might discover the hard way that it may not be so easy to persuade someone who is suffering from gum disease to follow the path suggested. If the message does not pass properly, it is a lose lose situation. During more then ten years experience with the theory set down in this book, I have encountered many people that have

read it and became convinced of the information therein. After they have come to a powerful realization in their life, they naturally want to help friends or other acquaintance by sharing the knowledge with them. However, simply telling them the method to cure their disorder mostly does the opposite! You cannot stop someone from doing something that makes him feel good. In most cases, will make him feel bad about you and it will encourage hostile. It takes a lot of internalization and higher understanding to change habits and personality. Also, assuming that you convinced him, It is more likely that instead of drinking 5 cops of coffee for a day, he will reduce to one - or drink it in lower temperatures. After a period of some sort of self-sacrifice with no significant improvement, such a person will lose faith in the method and return to his old habits. In this way, there are only losers: the method, because of loss of faith: and the person who had been given hope to remedy a potentially painful problem using a non-medical way, but not hope enough. Furthermore, we have a person involved, which is bitterly and disappointed, and will contribute to an unjustified negative reputation. You might find the difficulty similar in a way to going on a diet. You know that you are fat and you know that you need to eat less in order to lose weight, but even though try your best, your weight is stays the same or even on the rise. It is a known fact that more then 95 percent of the diet methods are prone to failure. That is because beyond the basic knowledge, you need the state of mind that will lead you through the process in the right way to success. So does in this case, when referring to a significant change of life-style, we all want go easy on ourselves and cut corners. Yet, cutting down the number of drinks or switching to lukewarm might slow the deterioration down, but it will make any change in the current situation. This is why not only that it is important to read the whole book, In order to internalize the information that is required for the process of changing of habits and beliefs, to keep on the right track, it is recommended to read it again after six month in order to sharpen the sensation and the awareness. Any logical person who has gum problems and hears: receding gums caused due to consuming hot drinks, or, if you stop consuming hot drinks it will help, will most likely think to himself: Okay, that makes sense. Perhaps Ive been exaggerating from now on, instead of five or eight cups of tea or coffee, Ill keep it down to one or two. another option; he might say to himself: Instead of drinking my coffee at a high temperature like I am Ill wait until it cools down and enjoy it lukewarm. Another reason that failure is likely without reading the book, is due to our set in habits. A persons character, personality and habits are formed and firmly established in his parents home, under the influence of the environment and the various systems and authorities to which he is exposed from the minute he is born. This has led the majority of people to believe that a hot drink is mans healthiest invention. As long as someone does not come face to face with established logic that offers answers to all the doubts involved, there is no way he will be convinced. Even worse, he may scorn the concept. Remember that to achieve the best possible recovery a partial recovery is a no go and, in many instances may lead to other diseases. Despite the difficulty to make such changes in ones life and outlook, it is certainly possible. If done of ones own free will, learning and understanding something so powerfully challenging to ones perception, can be extremely satisfying. When you realize the true causes of problems, and wish to make amends, the motivation for change comes easily. The motivation to make drastic changes in ones lifestyle depends on spiritual growth or development of awareness. If you are looking for an easy solution, without studying and becoming aware of various aspects which can stop you from carrying out these changes, the chances are that the desired results will not come about. I wrote the chapter about the hot food and drink myths in order to prevent just this. Reading and understanding the concepts are an important part of this journey of spiritual growth and change. Understanding reality from each and every aspect will enable the reader to navigate his life down a new and enlightened path allowing his body to rehabilitate itself from the damage caused during years of unawareness. A powerful and important concept discussed in this book is the aspect of ENERGY in our health. This is a concept that is barely understood and barely,, if at all, appreciated in the medical world. By becoming aware of the enormous power of energy and the side effects that occur by upsetting its systems, it will enlighten you about the true reason for gum disease. Once you know it, you will be able to end the suffering. The fact that you can prevent and remedy gum disease naturally by making significant changes in your mindset and lifestyle will go to show the direct relationship between this way of recovery and your potential spirituality. Your reaction to this book will show you exactly how far you are prepared to go to take responsibility and make sacrifices for your well-being. By reading the book, a person discovers the relationship between his spirituality and the way to recovery. If you care about them, try to make them read the book! Back to TOC

Frequently asked questions

What about cold food or beverages? Can cold be harmful?

Any energy imbalance is not recommended as it might cause certain health conflicts, but, in the given instances, heat is more problematic than cold since heat is energy and energy does work. When hot food or drink enters the mouth, energy is activated resulting in the actual diseases, which we are trying to prevent. What about rinsing the mouth with salt water? Except when immediate, short-term first aid is required as an emergency, I would not recommend rinsing the mouth out with salt water. The reason is that salt is an active, and in high concentration dangerous substance. Daily use of salt water cause damage to the tissue and affects its natural healing properties. It might harm the mouths mucous membrane, the blood vessels and the microorganism balance. The resultant imbalance of the microorganisms in the mouth and damage to the mucous membranes will induce sores, fungus, et cetera. High salt level also sucks liquids from the tissue, causing it to dry out and forces the body to waste energy that is required to heal the gum disease. In the same vein, I would not recommend to use strong tasting toothpastes or those containing a high degree of salt.

Shall I consult my recovery program with my dental health practitioners? (yeh sure...)

The sad part in my experience, was the discovery that some of the people who acquired this knowledge, whether from participating in the research groups or at some later stage, ran to their dentist, periodontist or other specialist for consulting. Those specialists were naturally scornful, not necessarily from meanness but because this information does not suit with what they have learned and what they stand for. I am afraid that if, after reading this book, your reason doesnt lead you to take the correct action, then like some others, you might find yourself on the statistics side with all those who have preceded you, with their teeth remaining just a memento in the bedside drawer. How long will it take until I will have results?

According to my experience, you will feel the change within days. Surprisingly, the greatest improvement will be in the first days. If your teeth were wobbling, they will get steady. If you had sensitivity, it will disappear.

Do I need to do root scaling to clean the roots of teeth?

About root scaling, if you feel that it is necessary go for it. By now, your teeth should be steadier so that you can do this procedure with less risk to lose teeth. Is massage of gum necessary?

You can live without gum massage, but if you do it right it will speed up your recovery and eliminate phenomenon such as wobbling teeth or sensitivities much faster. Also the contour of the gum will improve.

Is there any possibility that the jawbone will recover?

About the loss of jawbone; no research has ever been done in those particular circumstances, so you will not find an absolute answer whether if the bone has the potential to renew or not. Since normally body bones have the rehabilitation property, it makes sense that in the right conditions jawbones are no exception. If so, the rehabilitation works at an individual rate. The point is that as long as you function properly and there is no deterioration in your situation, there is no real significance to whether or not a part of the bone is missing.
