THOUGHTS ON THE WAY UP MOUNT CARMEL I must correct a date I gave you in my last column. Our Mission Cooperative Collection will be the weekend of July 23-24, not this weekend as I told you earlier. Fr. Baby Joseph Olickal of the Missionaries of Compassion in India will speak at all of the Masses that weekend. We will take up a second collection in support of the Missionaries work in education. Health care and care for the poor in India and Tanzania. This will be a SEPARATE collection, since no envelopes are available for your offering. We welcome Fr. Olickal to Our Lady of Mount Carmel. We also welcome Fr. Beal home from his summer teaching at Catholic University. He arrives Sunday evening and will be with us until the end of the year. He will also probably have some stories from his driving vacation just completed. Ill bet he didnt get any luggage lost or miss a flight connection, like I did a few weeks ago! You will find in this bulletin a reservation form for our upcoming Healing Mass on July 27th. Please fill out the form and drop it in the collection basket by July 25th so that we can plan adequately for the luncheon that follows the 10:00 Mass. You can also make a reservation by calling the rectory. All those who would like to receive the Sacrament of the Sick are invited and welcome to the Mass and luncheon in Scheffner Hall. Guests are also welcome; just include them when you make your reservation. Of course, there is no charge or fee for either. Remember, the Sacrament of the Sick is no longer reserved for those who are dying. It is a prayer for healing as the Letter of James makes clear. Read it before you come to Mass that day (James 5:13-15). I know that some of our parishioners are not fond of our airconditioning in church. We have raised the target temperature on the thermostats as a result of some of your comments to me. We have also decided to not turn them off from Sunday afternoon to Saturday afternoon on the advice of our air-conditioning company. They say that it is more economical to leave them on rather than turning them off and on. Some members of the Legion of Mary called me this week, worried that they were left on by mistake. Well see if this plan saves money or not. On the subject of the church, our new lights, second edition, were shipped this past week. We hope to be able to install them promptly and move on to our work in the sanctuary and the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima this fall. I met with a contractor this past week for an estimate. We also will begin work shortly with improvements to our sound system. We hope to improve coverage to our side aisles. A parishioner was kind enough to offer to assist in covering the cost of the additions. Thank you for your generosity! Fr. Cas will be on retreat and vacation these next two weekends. Keep him in your prayers and thoughts. I will be on retreat the first week of August. Please do the same for me! We had almost the entire school faculty at the rectory this week for the Dinner at the Rectory that they bid on at Lights, Camera, Auction in May. We had a great meal, a wonderful time and Mrs. Rinderle polished off an entire 2 liter of Diet Pepsi! Many thanks to Cathy Reynolds, Joan Collins, and Susan Cropp for their invaluable help. I did the grilling and blackened some of the hot dogs as ordered! Speaking of picnics, dont forget our Volunteers Picnic on August 14 and the Parish, School and Alumni Picnic on August 21. Reservation slips and information for the former will be in the bulletin soon. Enjoy our July summer weather. Who ever thought we would be hoping for some rain back in May and June! Fr. Ray Carmelite Sprituality Our Lord does not ask for great deeds but only for gratitude and self-surrender . St. Therese
