3. What is paired comparison approach in measurement? Illustrate it with examples.

4. Calculate the interquartile range, the quartile deviation and QD from the following
data.

5. Calculate the coefficient of correlation and obtain the lines of regression for the
following data.

Obtain the estimate of y which would correspond on the average to x=6.2.

6. A random sample of six steel beams has a mean compressive strength of 58392
with a standard deviation of 648. Use this information at the level of significance
α =0.05 to test whether the true average compressive strength of the steel from
which this sample came is 58,000.

7. (a) Describe the method of moving averages in straight line trend list its merits
and limitations.
(b) Construct a 4-yearly centered moving average from the following data.
