FAQ'S

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. You can connect with us on Twitter, Facebook, and through email.

Q: How long does the unit take to heat up? A: For 3mil pockets, it takes about (3) minutes, for 5 mil about (5) minutes, for cool pockets, just about a minute. Q: Can I laminate beads, rhinestones, or metal? A: No, laminating these types of items will damage your rollers, causing the unit to laminate unevenly. Make sure that the items you are laminating

it rolls through the laminator. Q: Sometimes when I laminate thick cardstock, there is a gap around the piece. Is there anything I can do about that? A: This is a common problem when laminating something thick. Often you can use a hairdryer on medium heat to warm up the gap and press it to seal. Be careful when trying this; if you heat the plastic too much it will melt away. Q: Can I laminate something in more than one pocket? A: Yes, if you are using the 3mil pockets. Just be sure to laminate each layer before placing it in the next pocket. Q: Can I laminate wax crayon art? dripping/bleeding on your artwork. (Our designers have had some fun coloring on the inside of the pouches with crayons, then laminating so it melts together, but is translucent.) Q: Can I use any brand of laminating pouch with my Purple Cows Laminator?

Q: I just tried laminating some small pictures, and the pockets got caught and folded up. How can I avoid this? Additionally, if you are sending an empty, or partially empty pocket through the unit, try using a carrier page. Q: Why did my laminated sheet only seal on the sides and not in the middle?

Carrier Sheets - One Cow

Tricks
Tips are ranked by levels of difficulty.

The Purple Cows Laminator and Hot and Kool Pockets offer the user a wide variety of creative uses beyond traditional lamination. Here are a few ways to make the most of your new laminator.

When laminating items that do not fill the pocket, especially the leading edge, place the pocket on a plain sheet of paper or lightweight cardstock(the same size or larger than the pocket) when you send it through the laminator. This paper will act as a carrier sheet and keep the hot pocket from curling or getting caught in the unit. ***When laminating an empty pocket, always use a carrier sheet.

Dry Erase - One Cow

Both the Hot and Kool pockets create a perfect surface for dry erase markers. Great for job/task charts, schedules, calendars, message boards, labels and more. Try laminating Sudoku or word puzzles for a quick easy to correct car game or make a reusable grocery list or daily to do list.

Preserving Paper Crafts - One Cow

Laminate your gift boxes, cards, envelopes, candy wrappers, gift tags, and other paper crafts prior to assembly to make them more substantial and reusable.

Personalized Overlays - Two Cows

You can create your own personalized overlays by stamping, drawing, or scattering glitter on the inside of the pocket before laminating. Make sure to leave the pocket open until your ink or adhesive have dried completely to avoid messy spill over when sending the pocket through the laminator.

Pockets - Three cows

To create pockets with your laminator, place the desired pocket in place on the item to be laminated (only use adhesive in the corners of the pocket piece only). Place item in a Hot Pocket and laminate. Using a craft blade, carefully cut along the top edge of your pocket by sliding the blade between the pocket and the background cutting only through the lamination. To create a clear pocket, laminate an empty hot pocket, cut clear plastic to the desired pocket size, and follow the same process as described above.

Lace & Tulle - Two Cows

Flat lace and tulle work very well with the hot pockets. Keep in mind, the laminate needs to adhere to something or i itse so a dense lace pattern may not be as successful as one with lots of spaces. These can be used to create envelopes, itself, box and home dcor items. boxes,
