IIT Guwahati is one of the leading technical institutions of the country. It has a faculty strength of 260. About 500 papers were published in journals last year. This year, the number of PhD students on campus will reach 700. There are about 250 sponsored projects being undertaken at present. There is therefore a strong R&D atmosphere in the Institute. This enhances the teaching process. IIT Guwahati is committed to excellence in all spheres of its activities. It is conscious that the brand IIT sustains itself mainly due to this commitment to excellence. We always strive to do better. The students graduating from this institute are all very bright. They have entered the institute by proving themselves in their earlier place of learning and by successfully competing with their peers. Our institute provides them quality education both in the classroom, and outside it. We know we have to mould the bright minds so that they can tackle the challenges of nature, of society, and of the marketplace. Our emphasis is on education, rather than training. So prospective employers may find that a particular student is not up-to-step with some new technology or methodology. They should assess if the student's fundamentals are strong or not. If the answer is yes, than he or she will be able to pick up the necessary details without any problems. I invite all prospective employers of our students to visit IIT Guwahati and participate in the on-campus placement process.

Placement Office
Placement Procedure
IITG follows a very simple and transparent placement policy. PHASE-I The invitation, containing the relevant information and the Job Announcement Form (JAF), is sent to the companies/organizations (hereafter called organizations) through email/post. Organizations fill the JAF and send it back to the Training and Placement Cell, IIT Guwahati via email/post. It is mandatory to complete the JAF with due care as it serves as an introduction of the job profile for the candidates. Suitable dates for Pre-Placement Talk (PPT) are decided as per mutual convenience. The company visits IIT Guwahati campus and conducts its PPT. PPTs are held after class hours, i.e. 5 PM onwards on all working days up to midNovember.
The placement office handles all aspects of campus placements for the graduating students at IIT Guwahati. The office is well equipped with excellent infra-structure to support every stage of the placement process. Arrangement for Pre-Placement Talks, Interviews, Group Discussions etc. are all handled by the staff at the office. The following facilities are made available for the placement activities: Auditorium/Lecture Hall to conduct Pre-Placement Talks Well furnished air-conditioned rooms for interviews Fully computerized office LCD Projector and PA system Video conferencing facility in special cases Guest House facility inside the campus (subject to availability) Placement volunteers to assist on the day of visit. The placement policies and other related activities are handled by Faculty In charge Training and Placement in consultation with the student representatives. The process of coordinating with companies for recruitment is handled by the Placement Cell. The companies are encouraged to contact Placement Cell for initial discussions for confirming all schedules and official communication. http://www.iitg.ac.in/placement/
PHASE-II The Training and Placement Cell allots a date to the organization, which is based on a variety of parameters, but mostly depends on the interest shown by the company and the candidates. The organization can confirm or negotiate the date with the placement cell. A compromise formula is worked out by the placement cell in the event of a clash of interests/dates. PHASE-III Organizations visit the campus on the given date and conduct the written technical/aptitude test, group discussion/personal interview as a part of their selection procedure. Please note that the facility of video conferencing at the campus can be availed for the purpose of interviewing candidates in unusual cases where the company is unable to visit the campus for genuine reasons. An organization is required to furnish the final list of selected students as soon as possible after the final completion of procedure. The selected students are usually not allowed to sit in further job interviews as per the placement policy of the institute.
