in the tissue culture lab. The staff are very friendly especially Dr Hasnida , which make me very comfortable with them . They introduce the tissue lab culture to us. Other than that, they also brought us to the other lab like genetic lab , seed lab and chemistry lab .. The lab staff are very friendly and they willing to show us their lab equipment . Then , Mr Brian and Miss Siti Suhaila brought us to museum. The museum kept a lot of artifact and it Is nice to know the history of FRIM. On Thursday, the opening ceremony for the BeST program student , Ketua Pengarah ,Datuk Abdul Latif give a speech and welcoming us . He really delighted with our presence. Ketua Bahagian Bioteknologi Perhutanan Dr Norwati also welcoming us. On Friday , Kak Nor and Kak Pah ( the lab staffs) show us a demo on how to prepare the media for a whole day.l

On Monday , First task is to prepare the media by ourselves. First of all we already split into four group. Im the leader of the Group 2. We prepare the stock preparation for the WPM and MS media. Then in the evening , our group had given a task to subculture a plant known as Tembusu. The staff which assist our group is Kak Nor. She teach us how to cut the plant and how to sterilize the laminar flow . Then we do our task . The initial bottle given is 15 bottle.. we able to produced 38 bottle of tembusu plant. 19 for multiplication and 19 for rooting.. The bottle is labeled according to its media and the type of explants. The observation for growth and contamination is started from now until the end of this training. Tuesday , we learn how to prepare media and autoclave the media. On Wednesday , we have given a task to subculture the Kacip Fatimah . There are two ways to subculture kacip Fatimah, by rooting and from the leaves. On Thursday , we had a lecture by Dr Fadhilah on sterilization technique. On that evening, we had a hands on training on sterilization . Sterilization is a technique to eliminate the microbiological organisms to achieve asepsis, a sterile environment and to prevent contamination to the explants. On Friday , we had given a task to subculture the Acacia hybrid . The initial bottle we had is 11 and the final bottle we gained are 28. The observation for growth and contamination is started from now until the end of this training.

For the sterilization technique , we had given a first task by Kak Nor which is the Kelempayan. Kelempayan is a species of forestry plant. We had given two type of origin ,Kelempayan seed , local and Kelempayan Jeli Kelantan. We sterilize the Kelempayan based on the given method. After finished sterilized we placed the seed in the test tube. We labeled the test tube accordingly to its origin.

Other activity is, check the growth and contamination of the Tembusu we done earlier last week. For tomorrow sterilization work, we took the banana from the park. We left it for a day by soaked it in the water to remove the mud and debris On Tuesday , the project was sterilizing the banana. First of all , we have to clean the banana , cut the unwanted part like shoot and leaves. Then we brought the banana to the culture lab. Sterilization taking place. The banana is a bit tedious since we have to open and slice out the layer one by one until the end. Although it is tedious work, the banana node is almost 100% free from contamination because it is located at the core of the banana root. We place it in a bottle;10 bottle overall.
