FAG Services Programme

Service for more operational reliability The FAG Services Programme all around the rolling bearing
FAG have a complete package of services and service equipment slotted under its slogan "Service for more operational reliability". Its range spreads from measuring and mounting devices to calculating and selecting rolling bearings with PC programmes as far as diagnosing rolling bearings with modern devices and well-studied experience. The customer decides whether he or she wants to buy the quality product or simply the entire service.

Mounting, maintenance, and diagnosis Upon request, experienced FAG fitters take over the mounting of all types of rolling bearings, acceptance inspection of the mating parts (shaft and housing), failure detection in the case of bearings running incorrectly, maintenance and inspec-

tion of bearing arrangements, dismounting of all types of rolling bearings, training of fitters, as well as offering consultation on the rationalisation of mounting procedures. The fitters also assist in selecting the suitable tools and display the devices and procedures involved. Careful handling and inspection of the rolling bearings insure a long life. Condition-dependent maintenance requiring the recognition of bearing damage and its follow up on time has proven to be very cost-effective. FAG service technicians analyse with the Bearing Analyser on the spot, for example, bearing vibrations and evaluate the measurements by means of an expert programme. Unnecessary machine downtime, i.e. unplanned downtime, can therefore be avoided. FAG provide comprehensive advice. Suprising solutions to increase a machine's performance, for instance, or extend maintenance intervals, have resulted very often from talks with users. Close cooperation is, of course, a must.

Temperature measuring device FAG 175830

FAG have drawn up a measuring device programme which corresponds precisely to the needs of everyday work. It includes simple feeler gauges and taper master rings as well as taper measuring instruments, boundary circle measuring instruments, temperature measuring devices, speed counters, and sound locators. They can be applied for checking the bearing seat, adjusting the radial clearance, monitoring the temperature during mounting and when in operation later, for measuring speed and analysing bearing noise, etc.

More comfort, mobility and evaluation reliability offers the Bearing Analyser, a combination of detector and laptop. Envelope detection and time signals make damage visible and damage progress predictable.

PC calculation programmes The strive towards more operational reliability starts long before the actual mounting of the rolling bearing. The first step is the choice of bearing. The electronic FAG rolling bearing catalogue runs on WINDOWS 3.1 or higher and is available on CD-ROM. Additionally, FAG have a series of special calculation programmes available. They run on IBM or IBM-compatible PCs with DOS operating system.

Diagnosing systems For every machine operator to avail of the economic advantages of the condition-dependent maintenance, FAG have various diagnosing devices on offer. The FAG detector is useful for simple bearing arrangements. With the operating modes "rolling bearing condition" and "vibration" the condition of rolling bearings and machines can be recognized.

The diagnosing system VibroCheck serves the online monitoring and remote diagnosis of rolling bearing arrangements and gears. Through modems the monitored plant is accessible worldwide via telephone, C net or satellite. The monitoring system is set and controlled by a PC.

Rolling bearing catalogue on CD-ROM Search, display, selection and calculation of rolling bearings, presentation of the nominal life and the attainable life, permissible speeds, friction, temperature and cycling frequencies. (Bearing selection and calculation for a bearing location, a shaft and a shaft system are made possible by means of a CD-ROM which is available on request from FAG.)

T144, Calculation of the rolling bearings in transmissions: Calculation of the fatigue life and the static safety of rolling bearings in transmissions. (The programme is preferably used for shift transmissions.) K094, Determination of the change in bearing clearance: Determination of the bearing clearance (clearance or preload) of all current radial bearings (single or double row, adjusted or preset bearings in X or O arrangement) in mounted, static condition, interference or clearance of fits and the stresses in the fitting joints FSL, Deflection and rigidity of rolling bearings: Determination of the deflection and rigidity of individual rolling bearings and several bearings arranged in groups. K077, Shaft deflection: Determination of the shaft deflection and the bearing reaction forces of a arbitrarily stepped, elastic shaft with multiple statically indeterminate bearing arrangements, calculation of the smallest critical speed in bending considering the gyrostatic effect.

Training and instruction, PC learners programme, videos More technical knowledge helps to avoid bearing damage and increase bearing life. For this reason, FAG have arranged practice-oriented training, courses and seminars on rolling bearings for several years. They take place at the customer's and distributor's places. The training consists of four blocks: Fundamental course in mounting, Rolling bearing basic seminar, Rolling bearing advanced seminar, and Maintenance seminar. FAG designed a fundamental course especially for professional training (rolling bearing mounting cabinet). This course primarily conveys to the trainees the knowledge required for the correct selection of a rolling bearing, for correct mounting and dismounting, and for maintenance of bearing locations. With the rolling bearing mounting cabinet three different mounting sets are on offer for the fundamental course. The instructor can use sets 1 and 2 to demonstrate mounting and dismounting rolling bearings in class and allow the trainees to do so also. With set 3, the installation of a self-aligning ball bearing in a housing can be practised.

FAG recommend the rolling bearing learning system W.L.S. for all those employees in the Purchasing Department, Materials Management, Design, Development, and Maintenance, who would prefer to refreshen or expand their knowledge alone at the PC. The W.L.S. is particularly useful for training and advanced training. The software programme provides comprehensive basic knowledge on the properties of the various bearing types, the designation system of rolling bearings, the mounting of rolling bearings and the elimination of bearing damage. The training programme is complete with several videos such as "The A B C of rolling bearings", "Installation of axle box roller bearings" etc. Development partnerships with our customers Development partnerships between rolling bearing users and manufacturers are ideal in order to

fulfill in practice the demands of operational reliability and cost-effective bearing arrangements placed by the customers from the machinery, plant and appliance industries. A development partnership with us involves the joint structuring of several processes: in Sales, Production, Logistics, and Quality Management as well as in the selection and development of products and the determination of products' performance features. The more complex the tasks the more practical the development partnerships. Projects should begin at an early stage and profit from having the requirements clearly defined and determined in a specification from the start. The joint agreement on requirements is the basis necessary for reliable and cost-effective machinery, plants, and appliances. Cost-effective solutions can only thrive in talks between rolling bearing users and manufacturers. FAG are well prepared for these talks.

Research and development for the customer The development and progressive development of our products is based on the requirements of the later practice of operation. Ideally, the outline of requirements is drawn up jointly by our researchers and application engineers in cooperation with the customer. This is the basis for convincing solutions both technically and economically speaking. Particular importance is given to Simultaneous Engineering, the pooling of activities in Sales, Application Engineering, Research and Development, Production Planning, Production and Quality Management. Material analysis, stress analysis, damage analysis and the development of various calculation procedures are part of our R & D activities in addition to research in the field of tribology. The infrastructure of our research centre meets the most modern demands. The entire service on offer is also at the disposal of external principals. This applies to both Research and the Laboratory Service.
