First Sergeants Note

By: 1SG Andrew Paulin
Hollywood families, the weather continues to heat up, its hot damn hot. We have become nocturnal like so many other inhabitants of desert environments. Hollywood Soldiers continue to grind out the deployment days one by one. Crowded living conditions and extreme heat add a challenge to the conduct of monotonous missions. These are missions that still hold an element of danger, and require full attention to the task at hand. This is the time in the deployment where all the fancy words that make us great Soldiers really come into play. Words like dedication, discipline, desireWords that when implemented display the character of the unit. It makes me wonder sometimes if our Soldiers truly realize the magnitude of their accomplishments. Just by executing the tasks at hand each day, they distinguish themselves as a special unit. It may seem simple, boring and routine, but, it demonstrates maturity, pride and sense of purpose. Hollywood sets an example of duty and self-less service every single day. Id love to take credit for their performance, but, I cannot. The character traits they possess were instilled at a much younger age by wonderful and loving families, as well as strengthened and appreciated by devoted wives. Please accept my thanks and gratitude. As we move into this phase of operations, there will be a higher demand on our Soldiers. We may be asked to help in places other than our current home base. It will be difficult for families if you are used to regular contact with your Soldier. Some of the places we may go could have limited phone and internet connections. I apologize for the stress this may cause, and we will encourage our Soldiers to make contact with the home front whenever possible. Thank you again for your continued support, and I look forward to your reunion with your Soldier, as much as I look forward to my reunion with my family.

Executive Officers Note

By: 1LT Jared Helle
Hello family and friends of the 391st Engineer Company. Although not an extremely busy month, we still watched the month of July come and go in a hurry. We inch one month closer to reuniting with our loved ones on the home front. The Company truly cannot thank you enough for your unwavering love and support as we move forward in this deployment. As always the Soldiers performed all their duties in the month of July with professionalism, precision, and of course with the all encompassing pride and arrogance. The platoons continue to serve with the 3-82 Field Artillery Battalion and steadily prove themselves as a stand out part of the team through their commitment to successful mission accomplishment. Behind the scenes, Soldiers work around the clock in the motor pool, supply room, communications shop, and operations center to ensure the Company is successful in accomplishing all its assigned tasks. Without their efforts the platoons and Company would fail to make positive gains operationally. We welcome the month of August with open arms, excited to see what changes continue to arise during this historic mission. Thank you for all you do and best regards from Hollywood.

Operations

By: SPC Justin Heaton

The month of July has seen an even higher rise in temperature, as well as the rise of the reputation of the 391st Hollywood Team. Recently, the unit responsible for our area of operations has changed. With that change, Team Hollywood has had the opportunity to show, yet again, that we are the best of the best at what we do through our professionalism, skill, and overall determination to accomplish the mission. Also in July, we have started to send our medics home on R&R. This has given our Senior Medic, SPC Hagler, a chance to show his versatility as a platoon line medic. Our Executive Officer, 1LT Helle, recently spent four days in Kuwait to conduct a recon for our eventual departure, signaling the beginning of the end of our deployment. Our Communications Section has supervised the fielding of new equipment that will add to the safety of our operation. And our Operations Section continues to provide support to the Soldiers in and outside the wire. We appreciate the support we feel from the home front, our thoughts and prayers are with you as Im sure yours are with us.

Maintenance

By: SPC Kyle Menck

Well how do you think you did? Do we agree the majority of the statements are false? Wrong! Each and every one of these facts are true. Ok you called my bluff, maybe only 1 or 2 are true but thats ok. The next episode of Whats Happening in Maintenance will inform you of our newest crowning achievements. Maintenance has been busy lately. We have been destroying the other companies in the matters of fixing the vehicles. We have found time to partake in extracurricular activities as well. SGT Sandoval is still a mad man running 6 to 8 miles in the heat in addition to waking up early to participate in CrossFit with 3 other soldiers. What studs. We were

Hello all you 391 maintenance supporters. Its time again for your mind to be blown away due to our awesomeness. However, we are going to switch gears a little bit for this news letter. Rather than tell you how amazing we are, we are going to let you make that decision for yourself. Heres the deal, we are going to post some facts about maintenance. Some of these facts will be fictional. Some of them may not be. The responsibility of deciding whats true or whats false is completely up to you. So lets begin.

First Platoon

By: SSG Jason Hahn

The deployment is well past the halfway mark and the Soldiers of 1 ST Platoon are still in high spirits. On top of completing all the missions placed before us with diligence, we have been keeping busy with training. Earlier this month we conducted a weapons qualification course, resulting in all 1 ST Platoon Soldiers qualifying on their personal firearms. When we have down time from missions and training, our Soldiers have been keeping occupied with physical fitness. Plenty of time has been spent in the gym or out running in the heat. Members of 1ST Platoon also participated in a multi-force volleyball tournament, winning the gold medal. Greater in achievement than the gold medal win was the fact that our rival 2 ND Platoon team did not win a medal. Thoughts of family and home are always on our mind. We all appreciate the many things all of you back home do to support us. Thank you for your continued support.

Second Platoon

By: SSG Andrew Watkins

Greetings to all the families and friends of the Soldiers of Second Platoon. With the end of July in sight, Soldiers begin to see the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel. Loved ones at home should take a pointer from your Soldiers and take pride in the fact that you havent lost your mind in the time weve been gone, so these next few months should be no problem at all. This month has been a month of new beginnings for Second Platoon. For starters, we had the opportunity to start working with our new support element, the 3/82 Field Artillery. They are a great bunch of guys who will be looking out for us as much as well be looking out for them. The Platoon also began a new mission inside the wire. Knowing how every Soldier is concerned about their beach body, we started a program to help our Soldiers achieve the physical fitness level theyve always wanted. Sessions, ranging from Operation Party Boy to Operation Rainbow Runners and Operation Beached Whale are targeting problem areas that Soldiers find need addressed. Left: SGT Dillon The Platoon would like to congratulate the headquarters conglomawaits the start of erate on their victory in the One Day, Single Elimination All (sorta) Balad the NCO Induction Volleyball Championship. Second Platoon was unable to attend due to Ceremony Above: scheduling issues. Recently there was a much larger competition held over SFC Haney a period of three days. With a double elimination policy, the game play was far more competitive. With net call the phrase of the day and a fiercely competitive Army rival, Seconds performance was admirable, but fell just shy. We will return again victorious as we always do. Now we would like to take a moment to recognize the several Soldiers from our platoon who were awarded the Combat Action Badge. There are thousands of Soldiers in the Army, serving in many different jobs, but this award is not for everyone. No matter what the action might have been, large or small, these events are what forge a steadier hand, a sharper eye, a second thought to see the objective from a different angle. Theyve been given the chance to see that enemy and combat it, and emerged victorious, so for that we honor them. As always we thank our loved ones for their support through this hard time, it is our honor to call you family. In the coming months we will continue to earn your pride and show the rest of the military the stuff that Idaho boys are made of. With any hope we will leave this country a fair amount safer than when we came here. And with your help, well come home a bit more mature and wiserwell, maybe just wiser.

Third Platoon

By: SPC Antonio Morales

Everything is Peachy Awesome for Soldiers of 3rd Platoon. This month the Soldiers of Third Platoon have been hard at work on the streets of Iraq all whilst staying safe of course. You can rest assured, friends and family, that your Third Platoon loved ones are keeping busy providing route clearance support to our Operating Environment Owners. Third Platoon has adapted well to the changes of Operation New Dawn and is continuing to find ways to fight terrorism. We continue to patrol the highways of Iraq in search of enemy threats and the operatives responsible for them, and, therefore, are happy and excited to be here. Also, Third Platoon is close to a 100% pass rate on the Army Physical Fitness Test. We will continue to train and push ourselves until we are able to reach the 100% mark As always we could not accomplish our task here without the love and support we receive from you. Thank you so much for your continued support.
