National Health Situation Analysis 2008


Portfolio

The educational objective of the “National Health Situation Analysis 2008 - Portfolio” is
to provide the students of NURS 1120- Principles and Basic Concepts of Nursing, the
opportunity to conduct a real time comprehensive analysis of the national health
situation. The analysis is meant to incorporate the impact of the actual national health
situation on the continuous evolution of professional nursing.

Through the analysis and reflection of current weekly news, the student should be able to
identify the tendencies that are guiding and will be guiding the development of
professional nursing and the nursing practice in the near future.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. The student will select from the written press, internet and/or current nursing
journals one news article per week for a total of 12 articles. Can be local and/or
national.
2. The articles will address nursing, nursing practice, professional nursing, nursing
shortage, nursing technology, nursing education, or any other related topic that
could have implications for professional nursing practice.
3. The student will include the article and will write a self reflection about the
subject.
4. After reflecting on the 12 articles, the student will write his/her conclusion
describing his/her perception about current issues affecting professional nursing
and the future of nursing practice.
5. Presentation:
a. Use of creativity.
b. Must include your coat of arms and explanation, designed at the beginning
of the course.
c. Brief introduction.
d. Articles/reflections in ascending dates order.
e. Conclusion.
f. Bibliographic reference per article. APA format.
