Indo-Australian S&T Fund

Overview
The Indo-Australian Fund for Scientific and Technological Cooperation (Indo-Australian S&T Fund) is jointly managed by the Australian Government Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research and the Indian Department of Science and Technology (DST). The Indo-Australian S&T Fund provides support on a competitive basis for collaborative research activities and workshops. Projects may range from short international visits to more complex projects spanning up to 3 years. The maximum amount of funding that can be awarded to a successful project by the Australian Government has been capped at $300,000 (GST exclusive). This maximum amount must be taken into account when drafting the project plan and budget. A higher cap of $400,000 (GST exclusive) has been introduced for projects that can demonstrate at least one active 'end user' partner. Both the Australian and Indian Governments wish to increase the level of industry and other 'end user' engagement in publicly funded research for either commercial or public good outcomes. The end user emphasis highlights the interest of both the Australian and Indian Governments in seeing the results of research both applied and utilised by end users. The higher cap is intended to provide an incentive to pursue applied research and engage industry and other end user partners. Examples of an 'end user' partner include: for-profit industry bodies and companies, not-for-profit organisations, non-government organisations and public sector agencies. Where a project is awarded at the higher cap, funding may also be used to support activities including: prototyping, commercialisation, product design and testing, and initial manufacture. Applications are only accepted in the bilaterally agreed areas of: Agricultural research; Astronomy and Astrophysics; Environment sciences (including climate change research; Micro-electronics devices and materials; Nanotechnology; Renewable energy;

Marine sciences; Earth Science; and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Australian project partners: Support for the Australian arm of successful applications will be provided by the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research. Indian project partners: Support for Indian arm of successful applications will be provided by the Indian Government Department of Science and Technology.

How to Apply
All applicants must use the Indo-Australian S&T Fund online application form. The Indo-Australian S&T Fund is a bilateral fund and applicants must apply for funding to support collaboration between Australian and Indian partners. Each Australian applicant must have an Indian 'partner' and each partner must submit an application to their respective government. Australian applicants must apply to the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research. Applications will only be accepted while an application round is open.
