The number of computing and telecommunications devices is increasing and consequently the focus on how to connect them to each other. The usual solution is to connect the devices with a cable or sometimes using infrared light to make file transfer and synchronization possible. The infrared solution eliminates the cable but requires line of sight. To solve these problems a new technology, Wibree radio technology complements other local connectivity technologies , without the need for connecting cables. wide range of computing and telecommunications devices easily and simply without the need for connecting cables. Furthermore it can also be used to enable communication between several units, such as small radio LANs. Wibree is complementary

to existing technologies; it does not replace them. Wibree's design is such that it Wibree stand-alone implementation is designed for use with applications, which Bluetooth-Wibree dual-mode implementation is designed for use in Bluetooth devices. In this type of implementation, Wibree functionality is integrated with Bluetooth for a minor incremental cost by utilizing key Bluetooth components and existing Bluetooth RF. It can be built into products such as watches, wireless keyboards, gaming, devices such as mobile phones and personal computers. Wibree is the first open technology offering connectivity between mobile devices or personal computers, and button cell battery power devices. Wibree is designed to have a range of up to 10 meters, and support a data rate up to 1 megabit per second, which is equal to Bluetooth. It will operate in 2.4 GHz range.

low-power wireless local area networK,(WLAN) technology that facilitates interoperability among mobile and portable consumer devices such as pagers, personal digital assistants (PDAs), wireless computer peripherals, entertainment devices and medical equipment. Nokia has introduced Wibree technology as an open industry initiative, extending local connectivity to

Wibree technology can be easily integrated in Bluetooth devices, and allows them to connect to a wide range of tiny, button cell battery devices. Therefore, there is room for both the technologies in the marketplace, and, in many cases, they will exist simultaneously in the form of WibreeBluetooth dual-mode chip, which extends the range of devices to which both technologies may connect.

Results:
Sports and Healthcare: Sensors fixed to the human body, shoes, and other fitness gears can gather data on heart rate, distance, speed, and acceleration, and send the information to a mobile phone and/or PC for storage and further processing. Healthcare monitoring equipments and sensors in the form of Wibree stand-alone devices can send vital health related information (blood pressure, glucose level) to Bluetooth-Wibree dual-mode, which can store and process this information and send alerts to mobile phones of patients and caretakers. Office and Mobile Accessories: They will benefit from Wibree's ability to extend battery life. They can also use Wibree to avoid non-connectivity issues, which add an extra component and raise the overall cost. Entertainment: Devices such as remote controls and gaming accessories with sensor technology can use Wibree to interact with one another, enhance their

new generation of lifestyle, monitoring and safety products. Today Wibree is a Nokia solution. However, it is being supported by the major Bluetooth chip vendors including Cambridge Silicon Radio and Broadcom. It is unlikely that other phone vendors will not take advantage of its presence, not least because it offers the network operators an additional revenue stream. Its presence will make it very difficult for any other short range, low power wireless technology to gain traction in the handset, ensuring that Wibree is placed to own the wireless healthcare market. Wibree will enable C2M - Consumer to Machine or Consumer to Middleware applications at a price point that makes them mass market. M2M is only just beginning to deliver against its promises. Wibree may result in C2M delivering an even larger promise in a shorter timescale. By the end of 2007 wireless industry expects to be able to provide the first modular products to allow developers to start work on Wibree designs for wireless healthcare. In the meantime we also expect to see networks engage in investigating the infrastructure requirements to provide the data services to support these applications.
