PART A (For both diploma and degree students) Answer three (3) questions in PART A QUESTION 1 Figure A1 shows a continuous beam subjected to a concentrated load of 100 kN on member AB and a uniformly distributed load of 20 kN/m on member BC. The beam is fixed at A and supported on rollers at B, C and D. Using the Slope Deflection method, determine the moments at the supports and sketch the bending moment and the shear force diagrams for member BC highlighting all the salient points. The flexural rigidity, El of all members is constant (25 marks)

QUESTION 3 In Figure A3, a plane pin-jointed truss structure is supported on rollers at F and pinned to the foundation at A. A point load of 30 kN is shown acting vertically at joint D. Determine the vertical displacement of the truss at D in terms of EA using the Unit Load method. The axial rigidity, EA is constant for all members. (25 marks)

PART B (For diploma students only) QUESTION 1 Figure B1 shows a rigid-jointed plane frame ABCD supported on rollers at A and pinned to the foundation at D. A point load of 52 kN is shown acting at point C of the frame. The relative flexural rigidity, El of each member is shown in the diagram. Using the Castigliano's Second Theorem, find in terms of El, a) the horizontal deflection of the frame at A
