foot infections; community-acquired pneumonia caused by
strep;
bactericidal action against streptococci; bacteriostatic action
against enterococci and staphlococci.
Contraindications/warnings/interactions hypersensitivy; phenylketonuria;
thrombocytopenia; concurrent use of antiplatelet agents or bleeding
diathesis; pregnancy or lactation
Common side effects headache; insomnia; pseudomembranous colitis;
diarrhea; increased liver function tests; nausea; taste alteration; vomiting;
lactic acidosis; thrombocytopenia; optic neuropathy; peripheral
neuropathy.

Interactions with other patient drugs, OTC, or herbal
medicines (ask patient specifically)
indirect acting sympathomimetics; vasopressors; SSRIs;
dopaminergic agents; adrenergics such as dopamine or
epinephrine

Be sure to teach the patient the following about this medication
take for full course of therapy; avoid large quantities of foods and beverages
containing tyramine; may cause hypertensive response; if patient has a history
of hypertension notify healthcare professional if takes over Rx, OTC or herbal
products, especially cold remedies; decongestants; or antidepressants
