INTRUDUCTION TO GRACEVILLA RETIREMENT HOME


Gracevilla Retirement Home was set up in 1993 at a time when such homes were still in it's infancy. It is a place for all senior citizen s to feel comfortable, safe and cared for with dignity and grace. It is clean, tidy and pleasantly decorated like a residential ho me. It does not have the sterile feel of medical instituitions instead it is beautiful and well equipped that even visitors feel comfortable being there. The objective of this community service is to render personal quality service and care to the elderly.It aims to encourage and assist the abandoned and neglected senior citizens to find spiritual solaces. We aim to cheer them up and try not to let them feel like outcasts or isolated.

PLANS
DAY 1
On the first day ,all the group members will pay a visit to the centre to obtain more information about the centre. We meet the manager who is Issac Lim and ask for his advice on our plan to ensure that the activities are suitable for the residents. Besides, we want to get to know the route to the centre so that we will not lost in the middle of the city for the next visit. We will ask the manager for a guided tour in order to know more about the environment of the centre such as the facilities and rest rooms. We will also che ck out the number of residents and their condition there so that we can do early preparation for the next visit.

DAY 2
All the group members will head for the centre after breakfast by taxi. We will meet the residents in the morning and introduce ourselve s to them. Angpao will be given to them even though it is a small amount, just give some pocket money to the elderly. We will bring some daily essentials like rice, cooking oil, adult pampers and soap powder for the residents. Then, we would like to interv iew them who have served the country and to listen to their golden stories throughout their lives. When the atmosphere gets lightened, we will offer helping to trim their finger and toe nails. We also prepare some card games that involved mentally of a person like card games and boars games .After that, a tea party will be held before leaving the centre.

DAY 3
On the last day, we will entertain the residents with some performance like dancing and singing. An aerobic dance will be suitable for the residents there which also include a dance called poco-poco. Moreover, two of the group members who are from Sabah and Sarawak will perform a cultural dance to cheer them up. We will sing some oldies song which suite their generation. The elderly are invited to per form some dance or singing session with us so that we have fun together. We will be taking a lot of photographs with them and we want to make a photo album and a scrapbook as a remembrance. Before ending the visit, we will hold a party to bid farewell to t he residents and we will take a group photo.
