in each case showing clearly the asymptotes (if any) and the point corresponding to A. A geometric sequence has first term a and common ratio r, r 0, and an arithmetic sequence has zero as the first term. A third sequence, 1, 1, 2, is formed by adding corresponding terms of the two given sequences. Find the sum of the first N terms of the third sequence. [6]

Sketch, on an Argand diagram, the locus of points representing the complex number z such that z 4 4i = 4 2. [1]
(i) Another locus of points representing the complex number w satisfies the equation w 14 + 6i = r , where r + . Find the range of values of r such

SK3 company wants find out the opinions of ladies about the fragrance of their new product. The marketing team decides to conduct their survey at the entrance of a few randomly chosen shopping malls in the town area.

In Air Force analyses the number of technical faults for their two types of fighter jets V-22 and F-16. It is found that the V-22 has an average number of 6 faults per 100,000 flight hours. The F-16 has an average number of 4 faults per 100,000 flight hours. It is assumed that the faults occur independently of one another.
(i) Give a reason to explain why Poisson distribution can be considered to be a suitable model for the number of faults in a given number of flight hours. [1]
Assume that the V-22 and F-16 fighter jets each clocks a total of 20,000 hours each year.
(ii) Find the probability that, for a year, there are at least 2 faults for the V-22 fighter jet and at least 1 fault for F-16 fighter jet, given that there is a total of 4 faults in that year. [3] (iii) Find the least value of n such that the probability that there will be a total of more than n faults in a year is not more than 0.15. [2]

The subjects Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics are being offered by a tuition agency. 47%, 53% and 72% of the students took Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics respectively. 1 in 10 students took all the three subjects. The probability of 1 a student taking Chemistry but not Mathematics is . The probability of a student 4 5 taking Mathematics given that he takes Physics is . Find the probability that a 9 student (i) takes Physics and Mathematics, [2] (ii) does not take Chemistry or does not take Mathematics. [3] Events X and Y are defined as follows: X: Students taking Mathematics and Physics; Y: Students taking Mathematics and Chemistry. Determine, with justification, if events X and Y are independent.

For this question, give your answers correct to 4 decimal places.] At a college canteen drinks stall, the probabilities of a student buying a cup of tea and a cup of coffee are 0.6 and 0.05 respectively. Sale of drinks takes place independently at random times.
(i) Ten students queue up to buy a cup of drink each. State a suitable distribution for the number of students who do not order coffee. [1] (ii) Three students queue up to buy a cup of drink each. Find the probability that exactly one of them buys a cup of tea and exactly one of them buys a cup of coffee. [2] (iii) Five students queue up to buy a cup of drink each. Show that the probability that none of these 5 students bought tea is 0.0102. [1] (iv) There are 80 classes in the college and 5 students from each class each buys a drink from the stall. Using a suitable approximation, find the probability that there are more than 75 classes with at least 1 student from the class buying tea. [4]
