a) Potential transformer, b) Disconnecting switch with ground switch blade c) Dead tank SF6 circuit breaker with rotating table and, d) lightning arrester.
Lightning Arrester Protection level in coordination with transformer insulating level. In case windings have two or more voltage levels, multiple lightning arresters are used (one for each voltage level), which are interchanged at the same time the winding voltage level is changed. Disconnecting Switch Single or three pole with capacity to interrupt transformer magnetizing currents. Can be operated locally or from a remote location. HV Breaker Dead tank SF6 circuit breakers are commonly used, with motor-wound spring operating mechanism, operable on even loss of auxiliary power. S&C Circuit Switcher Circuit switchers feature SF6 gas filled interrupters and single-pressure puffer technology for restrike-free, non-current chopping performance. Used when limited capacity due to space or alarm conditions are presented. Power Fuses Normally mounted between the lightning arrester and the transformer. Selected in accordance with voltage and current ratings. Potential transformer and current transformer Used to reduce voltage to 120 V and current to 5A for metering and protective relays. They also provide insulation between the primary and secondary circuits. For 25 kV and above PTs and CTs are suitable for outdoor use and below this range for indoors or outdoors in accordance with customer specifications.
Bushings Bushings can be supplied as standard ceramic or with silicon insulation. Bushings are selected in accordance to voltage and current requirements. Transformer Core or Shell type, with same thermal, mechanical, dielectric and economic advantages of IEM power transformers. - Compact design to optimize the transformer volume and reduce its total weight. - Designed to handle average winding temperature rise of 65, 75 or 95 C. - NOMEX/ pressboard or NOMEX insulation Forced oil and air cooling (FOA) Forced oil cooling consists of a seamless tubular cooler heat exchanger plus a submerged pump and motor .A bearing wear monitor is proposed which stops the pump in the event bearing wear has reached and unsafe level. Tap Changers The transformer could have one or more de-energized tap changers (DTC) on high or low voltage winding, delta-wye switches or on load tap changer (LTC) on high or low voltage winding. On all cases, external operating mechanism allows the voltage connections to be changed without opening the tank. LTC may be Resistive or inductive type and DTC may be Series-Parallel type. High temperature liquid Several high temperature oil types may be used for the transformer: Midel, FR3, Silicone oil or Beta fluid Monitoring Equipment Online monitoring is an important tool for early fault detection and real time condition assessment. IEM may provide online DGA and moisture monitoring, online PD monitoring and temperature and load monitoring.

Auxiliary transformer for control power Oil immersed, single or three phase and permanently connected to the low voltage of the main transformer. LV Breaker A vacuum or SF6 breaker normally provides low voltage protection against short circuit currents. The breaker and its controls are mounted on the trailers low voltage end or in a different trailer depending on customer specifications. Three phase, metal enclosed, metal clad single busbar switchgears may be used for indoor installation. This kind of switchgear has a hermetically sealed primary enclosure, which provides protection against accidental contact and is independent of environmental effects Protective Relays For protection against abnormal transformer differentials and sudden gas pressures. A wide variety of relays can be installed to meet specification needs Lightning Arresters For each voltage rating coordinated with transformer insulation level to allow ample margin between protective level and insulation strength.
Nelson trailer chassis and jeep dolly specially designed for mobile substations
All electrical equipment is distributed on a this special application. The equipment is distributed for maximum mobility and at electrical distances with enough safety operation.
trailer base designed for located so its weight is the same time, keeping margins for a reliable
Trailer chassis normally include: dual wheels with multiply pneumatic tires, air brakes with emergency breakaway on all wheels, fittings for connecting the brake system to the tractor, choke blocks for holding the trailer stationary when disconnected from the tires, four heavy-duty screw jacks for leveling and removing the load from tires, towing eyes and storage compartments. The trailer chassis is designed to meet with state and federal road regulations. The mobile substation will travel at 60 mph on first class paved highway. Since security is an important item on mobile substations, the trailer may be checked with off road testing for dynamic stress measurement using strain gauges.

Communication Equipment:
In order to give an added value to the substation regarding communication technologies, IEM may provide band width services (voice, data and video) with technologies like SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierachy) and PDH (Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy) with different connection types for traffic and information flows. Access networks can be based on different technologies: Copper twisted pair, Fiber/copper (ONU), Fiber/coax and fiber optics (unimode and multimode).

Experience
IEM started designing and manufacturing mobile substations in 1960 using Westinghouse technology. IEM is able to produce shell or core mobile substations with primary voltage up to 230 KV and transformer power rate up to 45 MVA.

Technology
IEM technology derives from the knowledge, expertise and experience gained through almost 60 years of design and manufacture of transformers, coupled with our past associations with Westinghouse and ABB, which enriched IEM with the following: - Medium core type based on Westinghouse/Sharon-Muncie Hamilton - Large core type based on GE-Pittsfield - Shell type from Westinghouse-Muncie IEM has a strong engineering group, trained at the highest technical level, and is one of the few transformer manufacturers that can offer both shell and core type designs applying state-of-the-art tools and techniques. Mobile substations are designed in accordance with customers necessities and requirements. The most advanced software programs are used to ensure the performance and reliability of our equipment: - Thermal and mechanical analysis by FEM - Electrical and magnetic field analysis by FEM - Drafting by 2D and 3D CATIA systems
