Absolutely no RUNNING or FOOLING AROUND is allowed in the shop at


any time.
Ask your INSTRUCTOR to approve all PROJECTS that you plan to do.
Wear suitable EYE PROJECTION when engaged in any activity where eye
hazards exist.
Covered SHOES must be worn in the shop at all times.
Cooperate with your INSTRUCTOR by completing your assigned cleanup job
at the end of each period.
Caution any other student you see violating a SAFETY RULE
Report to the teacher immediately any TOOL or MACHINE that does not
seem to work properly.
Keep TOOLS and WOOD from hanging over the edge of workbench.
Use only a BRUSH, not your hand, to clear away wood chips or saw dust from
any machine and workbench.
Keep the floor clear of SCRAPS of WOOD.
Wipe up immediately any LIQUID spilled on the floor with a rag or paper towel.
Keep cabinet drawers, lockers, and doors CLOSED.
Place oily rags and other combustible materials in the red METAL safety
CONTAINER.

14. Exercise care in LIFTING large, heavy, and long pieces of material.
15. Know the SAFETY PROCEDURES to follow in case of fire, earthquake, or
other disasters.
16. Report all INJURIES, even slight, to Mr. Kuhn immediately.
17. You are FORBIDDEN to use or handle any hand tools or other equipment
provided for your instructions in this subject, until you have been instructed how
to use them PROPERLY, and how to successfully avoid ACCIDENTS.
18. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS have been compiled for your benefit and a strict
observance of the same is MANDATORY upon each and every student.

HAND TOOL SAFETY


1.

Be sure your hands are CLEAN and are free as possible of dirt and grease
before using any hand tool

2.

Use proper TYPE and SIZE of hand tool for the task at hand.

3.

Make sure the tools you are going to use are SHARP and in GOOD
WORKING CONDITION. Using a dull tool is dangerous and causes more
pushing which increases the chances of your hand slipping.

4.

Handle edged or SHARP tools with extra care.

5.

Pass tools to classmates with the HANDLES FIRST.

6.

When using a sharp edged tool always point the SHARP edge away from you
and your classmates.

7.

When sanding or sawing stock, arrange your work so that classmates are
protected
from the SAW DUST.

8.

Always CLAMP small work to bench or secure in a VISE when using hand
tools.

POWER MACHINE SAFETY


1.

Qualify as a SAFE machine OPERATOR.


a. Observe teacher demonstration of each machine.
b. Take safety test and pass.
c. Have Mr. Kuhn observe you operate each machine the 1st time you use it.
d. Always obtain permission from Mr. Kuhn every time you use a machine.

2.

Check SET UPS on machines before turning on the POWER.

3.

Make sure that all other students are CLEAR of the machines when turning on
the power.

4.

Keep all machine safety GUARDS in correct position.

5.

Start your own machine and remain with it until you have turned it off and it has
come to a complete STOP. Never walk away from a machine that is in motion.

6.

Stay clear of machines being operated by OTHERS. Never talk to or distract a


person operating a machine.

7.

Notify Mr. Kuhn when a MACHINE does not seem to work properly.

8.

Wait for machines to come to a COMPLETE STOP before adjusting or


cleaning.

9.

If you are unsure of the proper operation of any machine, tool or process
throughout this course, ASK MR. KUHN.
