at the Prosserman JCC --------------------------------------Come join us in a comfy and casual setting to view and discuss wonderful Jewish and Israeli films. Susan Jackson, Alice Nusbaum, Cyrel Troster and Mike Slodovnick will facilitate the films, giving you a variety of facilitators as well as a variety of films.

English subtitles Eyal, an Israeli Mossad agent, is given the mission to track down and kill the very old Alfred Himmelman, an ex-Nazi officer, who might still be alive. Pretending to be a tourist guide, he befriends his grandson Axel, in Israel to visit his sister Pia. The two men set out on a tour of the country during which Axel challenges Eyals values.

Young Israeli husband Eli Cohen is recruited by the Mossad in the early 1960s and sent to Syria. Telling his wife he has a new job that requires extensive business travel, he takes up residence in Syria, where he befriends a high-ranking Syrian government official and provides invaluable information to Israel. On a visit home, his wife pleads with him to leave his job so he can be home more, and his handler tells him he has accomplished enough, but he decides to return to Syria one last time. One day he learns of an attack on a kibbutz scheduled for that night; he abandons normal precautions in order to warn Israel as quickly as possible, and is caught.

Nominated for an Oscar. Hester Street tells the story of Jewish immigrants who come to the Lower East side of New York City in 1896 from Europe and who live on Hester Street in Manhattan. When Yekl first comes to the U.S., he quickly assimilates into American culture and becomes Jake. He also begins to have an affair with Mamie, a dancer. His wife, Gitle, who arrives later with their son, Yossele, cannot assimilate and tension arises in the marriage.

English subtitles In Majdal Shams, the largest Druze village in Golan Heights on the Israeli-Syrian border, the Druze bride Mona is engaged to get married with Tallel, a television comedian that works in the Revolution Studios in Damascus, Syria. They have never met each other because of the occupation of the area by Israel since 1967; when Mona moves to Syria, she will lose her undefined nationality and will never be allowed to return home. When the family gathers for Monas wedding, an insane bureaucracy jeopardizes the ceremony.

Hidden ghosts will slowly appear, forcing the three sisters to confront the secrets and lies, and seek forgiveness.

English subtitles Autobiographical film follows the director as he tries to recover blacked-out memories of his experiences fighting in the 1982 Israel-Lebanon war. The movies title comes from a key moment when a soldier in Folmans platoon enters a kind of trance state, firing his gun while dancing in the street in front of a billboard of former Lebanese prime minister Bashir Gemayel. Nominated for Oscar, won 5 Award of the Israeli Film Academy and won the golden globe award.

Director: Steven Spielberg Writers: Tony Kushner (screenplay), Eric Roth (screenplay) Stars: Eric Bana, Daniel Craig and Marie-Jose Croze
Set in the aftermath of the massacre of 11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics, the story follows a secret Israeli squad assigned to track down and kill the 11 Palestinians suspected to have planned the Munich attack and the personal toll this mission of revenge takes on the team and the man who led it. Nominated for 5 Oscars.

Arranged centers on the friendship between an Orthodox Jewish woman and a Muslim woman who meet as first-year teachers at a public school in Brooklyn. Over the course of the year, they learn that they share much in common not least of which is that they are both going through the process of arranged marriages.
