Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) Siemens Process Analytics offers extensive FEED services for new

and up-gradation projects

Front-End Engineering and Design

Process plant owners and EPC contractors are facing ever increasing pressure for enhancing plant efficiency, reliability, availability and safety to maximize Return on Investment (ROI) while minimizing the capital expenditure. Huge investments in plants are defined in the early design phases i.e. feasibility study, design intent memorandum and tender specification. Ability to influence costs is significant during the FEED phase but decreases during ongoing project implementation. Decisions made in these initial phases (Front-End) of a project are crucial to long term plant performance, safety, costs and hence ROI. Optimal technical solutions defined in the Front-End can lead to large benefits. Hence, with small costs, FEED provides the best opportunity to influence the ROI. During the FEED phase, Siemens interacts closely with the plant owner/ EPC contractor and furnishes the engineering and design documents for optimal analytical solutions specific to the plant. In case of up-gradiation projects, Siemens assesses the condition of analytical systems in the existing plant and recommends the best possible solutions/strategy for their up-gradiation. The mission of Siemens analytics FEED is to help the customers and their associates in identifying and providing optimal technical solutions for new projects and old plants needing up-gradiation.

Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) is a segment of the planning and engineering phase of a plant construction project. FEED work is done after conceptual business planning and prior to detail design. During the FEED phase, best opportunities exist for cost and time savings for the entire project, as changes and modifications have the least financial and timing impact to the project during this phase.

Siemens Process Analytics, with its analytical systems integration group, holds a unique blend of analytical expertise, process and process control knowledge and solution packages and has vast experience of providing analytical systems. Therefore, Siemens Process Analytics has best capabilities to provide clients with a wide scope of FEED services in process analytics.

FEED as crucial part of Project Implementation Stages

Feed in project implementation stages

include, with some overlapping, planning, design, procurement, construction and operation. FEED is part of planning and design and comprises process analysis, conceptual design, and basic engineering, Fig. 2. Generally, major elements of FEED include Analytical project review Engineering analysis Engineering report with recommendations Project design Establishing concepts Reviewing alternatives Identifying opportunities Capacity analysis of equipment Identification of increasing performance

In case of Siemens Process Analytics, FEED activities include interactions with owner/EPC contractor, analyzing the plant analytical requirements, preparing strategy for optimal analytical solutions, furnishing basic engineering and design documents and drawings. For up-gradation projects, Siemens visits the existing plant and evaluates the condition of existing analytical systems in close cooperation with the plant operators and recommends the optimal strategy for renovation or replacement. As the final performance and the costof-ownership of a production site is very often significantly influenced by the performance of the chosen process analytical equipment and its system design, the efforts taken in early design and engineering phase will have a strong impact on the over-all ROI of the whole invest (see Fig 1).

Therefore, FEED services for process analytical equipment shall better be given into the hands of avowed experts in process analytics and system integration as provided by Siemens Process Analytics.
