AUGUST 2011
Summer in Montauban

Mark & Marti Mylin

Summer typically signals a slower pace and smaller numbers at events. For us, it means more visits and opportunities to announce the gospel. These opportunities come, for the most part, when Mark is called upon to do a funeral service. With Pastor Rarijason on vacation, Mark has done several funerals, one of which had over two hundred in attendance. Usually the person who died had ties to Protestantism but was not involved in a church, thus the request for a Protestant funeral. Mark is invited by the retirement home or funeral home to meet with the family in order to plan the service. When family members are open, he reads the Bible, prays and proposes texts that could be read during the funeral, encouraging them to choose one or two. At the funeral, Mark announces our guilt before God and forgiveness and hope in Jesus Christ. Thank God for these opportunities to announce the good news of life in Christ. Ask that those who have heard this news might repent, trust in Jesus and be joined to His church. With fewer activities during summer months, we have been able to visit more church participants. Please pray that we would make the most of these visits to encourage, challenge and strengthen the saints in our local church. Marti will be speaking with several women over the next few weeks about joining a Bible study discovery group to start in September. Would you pray that God would give a thirst for His Word to these women and others in our church and beyond.

Elders for the Care and Nurture of the Church

In October the church will be choosing three new elders. Several men were invited to become elders and have accepted being presented to the congregation. Thank you for praying about this step. Please pray for these men, Mark, Pastor Rarijason and the church council. Ask God to protect them and enable them to serve and build up the Montauban church.

Marriage Preparation and Planting Seeds

The couple Mark was meeting with in preparation for marriage called it off at the last minute. We dont really know what happened. Just before our next meeting, when Mark called to confirm, they cancelled with no other explanation. Could it be conviction about what we previously discussed from the Bible? So much of our work here is like that. We sow the Gods truth in the lives of those we meet. If we have the chance, we sow some more. But in the end, we wait to see if God will bring fruit from what was sown. Ask God to bring fruit in His time from the sowing done by His people here in Southwest France. Pray for us to be patient and to persevere, trusting Gods plan and His goodness in Christ Jesus.

Your partners in the gospel,

Mark & Marti
