AUGUST 2011
Summer in Montauban
Summer typically signals a slower pace and smaller numbers at events. For us, it means more visits and opportunities to announce the gospel. These opportunities come, for the most part, when Mark is called upon to do a funeral service. With Pastor Rarijason on vacation, Mark has done several funerals, one of which had over two hundred in attendance. Usually the person who died had ties to Protestantism but was not involved in a church, thus the request for a Protestant funeral. Mark is invited by the retirement home or funeral home to meet with the family in order to plan the service. When family members are open, he reads the Bible, prays and proposes texts that could be read during the funeral, encouraging them to choose one or two. At the funeral, Mark announces our guilt before God and forgiveness and hope in Jesus Christ. Thank God for these opportunities to announce the good news of life in Christ. Ask that those who have heard this news might repent, trust in Jesus and be joined to His church. With fewer activities during summer months, we have been able to visit more church participants. Please pray that we would make the most of these visits to encourage, challenge and strengthen the saints in our local church. Marti will be speaking with several women over the next few weeks about joining a Bible study discovery group to start in September. Would you pray that God would give a thirst for His Word to these women and others in our church and beyond.
