Notes:

Upbeat song for transition from Activity Stations to the Creative Bible Teaching The Happy Dance (Reach Up High CD) Dance, Shout & Sing (Touch the Sky CD) Touch the Sky (Touch the Sky CD) Determine whether or not you will use the sound effects CD. Look at the sound effects listed in the lesson and determine if you will use the sound effect from the CD, have the kids make the sound with you, or omit the sound effect, and modify the lesson accordingly. Gather the supplies listed above and arrange your classroom as follows: Place the royal box on the table with tablecloth, and the King puppet under the table. You will use these props for all the lessons in Unit 3. Place the Bible in the royal box. Print the royal game cards and place them in the royal box. Print the frog picture, make multiple copies (to illustrate the frogs God sent to plague Pharaoh), and place them in the royal box. Print and copy onto cardstock the three two-sided pictures and place them under the table. You can place the pictures into a photo album or folder first if you like. Prepare the materials that will be given to each of the children. To prepare the stickers, print or copy the pages onto Avery label sheets #5294. Consider cutting the stickers apart for easier distribution. Print out the lesson and practice the teaching time.

READ EXODUS 512. Ever struggle with being patient and waiting on Gods timing? Consider Kayleen, a young single woman who attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago and went on to lead a fulfilling and interesting life as a missionary in several countries. Through nearly 20 years of exciting adventures, she never lost her dream and desire to be married. But at forty, it seemed as if it would never happen. Then she met Steve, and eventually he proposed to her. Kayleens dream of marriage came true! From the time she became engaged, through all the wedding planning, and even on the day of her wedding, Kayleen whispered the same words: In Gods perfect timing. This week, use Kayleens story to remind you that God is on your side. Whisper Kayleens same words, In Gods perfect timing, as you patiently wait or keep trying. Then remember that God is with you and He helps you.

[Play upbeat music as children transition to the teaching area. Invite kids to sit down. Throughout the teaching time, Teacher moves the mouth of the King Henry puppet and talks for the King in a kingly voice. Puppet starts under the table.]
TEACHER:

Hello friends, my name is ________ . Today we are going to sing some songs, play some games, and best of all, hear a great Bible story! Clap your hands if you are ready for a fun day! [Along with kids, clap your hands.]
[SFX 16: Royal music.]

TEACHER:

Did you hear that? That sound means we have a special visitor. I think I know who it is. Ill get him. [Reach under table and put puppet on your hand. Then hold him up for the kids to see.] Friends, look who is here. Its King Henry.
KING:

Well, hello there, friends! Im King Henry from the Story Kingdom.
TEACHER:

Can you say hi to King Henry?

KING:

[Nod as kids say hi.]

TEACHER:

Because King Henry is from the Story Kingdom, he always has fun things for us to use to tell the Bible story. [Nod puppets head, then speak to him.] And I know you love to sing songs and play games, too.
KING:

Thats right. I can tell today is going to be a happy day. Just clap your hands two times and the music shall begin! [Kids clap their hands twice and the song begins. Take puppet off your hand and put him on the table while you sing.]

TEACHER:

That was great! Good singing, friends. On the count of three, have a seat. One, two, three, and sit. Today we are going to hear a Bible story and learn that God [point up] helps me [point thumbs to self] be patient [clap twice: be (clap) patient (clap)]. Say that with me. God [point up] helps me [point thumbs to self] be patient [clap twice: be (clap) patient (clap)]. [Place puppet back on your hand.] King Henry, we love Bible storiesdont we, friends? [Yes!] Raise your hands high in the air and wave them back and forth like this [raise your arms and wave them back and forth] if you love hearing stories! [Along with kids, raise your arms and wave them back and forth.]
KING:

Im so glad you love Bible stories. I have some special things in my royal box, just for you.
TEACHER:

Thank you, King Henry! This is going to be so much fun!

KING:

You can tell the Bible story and Ill come back and visit when youre done. [Invite kids to say good-bye to King Henry. Place puppet under the table, then excitedly open the royal box without showing kids the things inside.]
TEACHER:

Whoa! King Henry has some cool things in here. [Show the Bible.] What book is this, friends? [Bible.] We can use this to tell the Bible story. And just wait until you see all the other fun things well use for the Bible story. I think were ready to tell our story. So lets click on our listening ears. Click! Click! [Tug on each earlobe.] And lets put on our special eyes. Shookum! Shookum! [Hold hands to eyes, one at a time, shaping glasses.] Good job! [Begin reading the Bible.] This story is about a mean king named Pharaoh. [Helper], will you pretend to be Pharaoh, and make your mean face?
HELPER:

[Stay where you are, manning the CD player. The kids will look at you as you make a mean face.]
TEACHER:

The other man in the story is Moses. Moses was a good man. Moses loved God. [Give yourself a hug.] Friends, can you give yourself a hug to show love for God? [Kids hug themselves.] The mean king, Pharaoh, wanted all the people to work and live by him. But God wanted Moses to take all the people and move to a new home far away [point as if to something far away]. So Moses went to Pharaoh, and said [stretch arms out], Pharaoh let my people go. Say that with me, friends. Pharaoh, let my people go. Moses wanted to move the people to a new home far away. But Pharaoh said, No, no, no, I wont let your people go!

UNIT 3:

The Story Kingdom

HELPER:

[Shake head and finger.] No, no, no, I wont let your people go!
TEACHER:

Moses knew he needed to be patient and wait. Moses waited because he knew God would help him. So Moses said [put hands up in the air with palms out, slowly float hands down, opening and closing them each time you say, Ill wait], Ill wait, Ill wait, Ill wait. Since Moses was patient and waited, be like Moses and say [with motions], Ill wait, Ill wait, Ill wait. God wasnt happy with Pharaoh. God wanted Pharaoh to let the people go to their new home far away. So God did a lot of things so that Pharaoh would let the people go.
[SFX 17: Frogs croaking.]

Lesson 9 LG 1

TEACHER:

[Take frog pictures out of royal box and scatter them around while speaking.] God sent lots and lots of frogs. There were frogs everywhere! There were frogs in homes, outside on the ground, in the beds. The frogs were hopping everywhere! But still, Pharaoh said . . . [Gather up the frogs and place them back into the box as Helper speaks.]
Lesson 9 LG 1 HELPER:

[Shake head and finger.] No, no, no, I wont let your people go.
TEACHER:

But Moses was patient because he knew God would help him. Friends, what did Moses say? [Along with kids, say the following with the motions.] Ill wait, Ill wait, Ill wait.
[SFX 18: Flies buzzing.]

TEACHER:

[Open royal box as if to let the flies out of the box.] Pharaoh wouldnt listen, so God sent flies to make Pharaoh let the people go. And they were everywhere! The flies flew all over! They flew in the air, on the ground, by the animals, inside, outside. Yuck! They were everywhere! Swat at those pesky flies, boys and girls. Swat, swat, swat those pesky flies! [Along with kids, swat at the pretend flies. Then close the box as the Flies buzzing sound effect ends.] But when Moses asked Pharaoh to let his people go, Pharaoh still said . . .
HELPER:

[Shake head and finger.] No, no, no, I wont let your people go.
TEACHER:

But Moses was patient and said [with motions], Ill wait, Ill wait, Ill wait. Then, God helped Moses by making all of Pharaohs people sick. [Cough.] They couldnt do work for Pharaoh because they were so sick. But when Moses asked Pharaoh to let his people go Pharaoh still said . . .
HELPER:

[Shake head and finger.] No, no, no, I wont let your people go.

But Moses knew that God would help him. Moses knew he just needed to be patient. So he said [with motions], Ill wait, Ill wait, Ill wait. Lets be like Moses and say [along with kids, do motions and say], Ill wait, Ill wait, Ill wait. God wanted Pharaoh to let the people go to their new home, so He did even more things to bother Pharaoh. One day, the oldest boy in each family of Pharaohs people became really sick and died. It was very sad. Pharaoh had a son, and his son died. Pharaoh was very sad. Then, the Bible says [read from Bible] that Pharaoh couldnt take anymore. And finally he said:
HELPER:

Moses, take your people and go.

TEACHER:

Moses was so happy that Pharaoh let the people go. Moses took all his people to their new home far away. Moses was patient. He waited and waited and waited for Pharaoh to let the people go. Moses knew that God would help him. God helps us too, just like Moses. We can be patient. God [point up] helps me [point thumbs to self] be patient [clap twice: be (clap) patient (clap)]. Lets say that together. God [point up] helps me [point thumbs to self] be patient [clap twice: be (clap) patient (clap)]. Lets say that in our loud voices. God [point up] helps me [point thumbs to self] be patient [clap twice: be (clap) patient (clap)]. Now lets say it in our quiet voices. God [point up] helps me [point thumbs to self] be patient [clap twice: be (clap) patient (clap)]. God helps us because He loves us so much. Lets stand and sing a song to Him.

KING:

Just take another look in the royal game box.

TEACHER:

Theres more? [Keep the puppet on your hand as you open the box. Have the puppet look in the box with you. Take out the royal game cards.] I found some game cards. What are these, King Henry?

She tells you it will be five more minutes before its time to eat. Even though youre really hungry, you go sit down and read a book until she calls you in for dinner. Is that a way to be patient? Snack and Coloring Activity

(15 MINUTES)

This is the time for you and the children to build community. A great way to let the kids know you care about them as individuals is to ask them questions about themselves. GIVE each child a snack to eat. GIVE each child a Key Concept sticker to put on their shirt while they are eating their snack. TELL kids: God helps you be patient. GIVE each child a coloring sheet to color while they wait to be picked up. ASK each child a question or two about themselves: When was a time you had to wait a long time? Did Moses have to wait a long time for Pharaoh to let the people go?
