FOOD SECURITY IMPLEMENTATION AND MANUTRITON

REDUCTION PROGRAMME (FSIMRP)

BACKGROUND

Food security implementation program started in the year

2005 with a view to walk with the rural poor enhancing their
capacity in understanding the situation in which they are
found in particular food insecurity. Since inception fsimrp has
been working on voluntary with no support from any donor or
external funder other than the founder in various places of the
nation equipping the rural poor community regardless of their
status.

FSIMRP: Confidence that food is there!

• FOOD SECURITY IMPLEMENTATION AND
MANUTRITON REDUCTION PROGRAMME
(FSIMRP)

• VISION:
• Rural People get saved and become food self sustained through
agriculture programs.

• MISSION

• Partner with rural community, individual brothers, cooperates, Local

churches, organizations and projects which can share the same
vision with FSIMRP to equip the rural community with
developmental knowledge and the gospel.

• OBJECTIVES

• The objectives of FSIMRP are in two categories. There are

immediate objectives and long term objectives. FSIMRP taking into
Consideration the situation of the rural poor people to adopt the
idea of self sustenance, objectives are grouped into two categories.

• IMMEDIATE OBJECTIVES

o Basic Agriculture education. In this component the rural

poor farmers are trained in basic sustainable methods of
farming. These are new systems of farming such as
conservation farming technologies. Within Agriculture
education the poor farmers are also trained how to process
the produced crops into local nutritious food products, they
are as well trained in dietary recipe preparations of local food
crops and products preservations.

o Basic Health Education: This is basically done to equip the

poor farmers with knowledge that through the production of
food crops they can actually attain good heath. This helps
combat Nutrition problems which later promotes good body
immune system. Through this component they are exposed to
the HIV/Aids programs, where the main thrust is to show how
the affected and infected can support themselves other than
waiting for the external support.

o FARMING INPUTS AND IMPLEMENTS SUPPORT.

• In this activity FSIMRP supports rural poor farmers across churches
and communities with basic fertilizers, seeds and farming
implements such as hoes. This is not as spoon feeding (that is not to
continue giving them every year) but as a starting point. The
emphasis is that within a season some poor farmers who are fast
adopting people should be able to start contributing to the
community by identifying their brothers in need and help through
the formed local committee, to ensure the efforts are being
multiplied.

• B. LONG TERM OBJECTIVES

• The main activities are that poor farmers should realize that no one
feels the deepest pain of their problems than themselves, that for
how long should they accept and tolerate the pain. They should
realize that their needs required a serious attention by themselves.
Now that they are helped with the starting point what should they
do? Is it to continue asking for support or multiply the support until
achieving self sustenance? FSIMRP is assisting poor farmers to
identify farming activities which shall stand a test of time to help
them come out of food shortages and at the same time financial
crisis through income generation projects. The long term objectives
have the initial base which is co-coordinated by the formulated local
committee where every one who is supported in the community has
to contribute for the multiplication of resources and this continues
every season. Each year an income generating project is identified
by the community where the contributed resources are invested for
multiplication. The Projects are major in Agriculture, as the main
thrust is to encourage the rural communities to be productive as the
bible encourages. The major role for the staff is to guide, to ensure
the community is doing the right thing that helps them come out of
the problems.

• ACTIVITIES:
• The programme is involved in three major activities, these:

• TRAINING:

• The activity is carried out by the involved and concerned staff with
the heart to serve the poor. The program staff identifies the literate
rural farmers or church local leaders and equips them with basic
knowledge, in new farming systems, good health and how to come
out of their problems. The identified local leaders they later serve as
leading farmers. Since they are given special trainings, they
continue training their fellow community residences, and then staff
goes on with the extensive field visits and follow up trainings to the
community to ensure the idea is implemented and adopted
correctly. The role of the staff is to ensure the community
understands that it is not the staff in pain but the community hence
adopts the measures which rescue the community from pain.

• SUPPORT

• Farmers are supported with starting inputs and implements. The

rural poor farmers though in churches FSIMRP mainly focuses on
the identified communities and no actual money are given to an
individual or church.

• The program purchases the required fertilizers, seeds and hoes.

These are given to the selected beneficial lies from the community
with emphasis that after the harvest each beneficially should
contribute to the community through the formed committee. This
now shall be the resources to be given to the more identified
beneficial lies after resource multiplication later implement the
sustainability process as every member in the community through
the contribution of the first supported group becomes a beneficially.
As the vision states the community is taught from the start that this
shall not be spoon feeding that they think to continue receiving
support but take it as the advantage to start and stand on their on
permanently. No actual food is given or money this is also
emphasized greatly at the on set of the programme.

• ADVOCACY

• In this item the program lobbies the government local community

and other organizations to discourage spoon feeding, that is giving
out handouts to poor farmers since that does not promote
independence but encourages dependence among the poor
farmers. This is also done through awareness trainings among the
beneficiaries that they understand that their problems or needs can
not be met through handouts.

• The main partner in this item is the church who we work together, in
promoting self sustenance among the poor regardless of their
conditions.
• TARGET GROUPS
• The target groups are in two categories as follows.

• LESS PREVALEDGE

• In this group our main focus is not on every less privileged but only
those with the heart to do something. Those who are deeply
convicted that they can farm and are already growing crops but
they feel they are doing it in the wrong way and do not have
enough resource to go forward probably they need skills and also a
starting up empowerment on inputs. These can even practically be
identified that they are promoters of dependence; they only lack
support to start.

• CHRONICALLY ILL PATIENTS

• Regardless of the cause they qualify to be supported with basic

skills in new farming technologies, health education and inputs. The
people living with HIV/Aids are not an exceptional but for as long as
they are identified physical to do farming they are selected and this
is done through physical interviews.

• IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY

• This is not a theoretical programme but a visible and practical

program which aims at involving the community very much as they
are the victims of the advocated problems.
• Firstly the beneficiaries are selected with the help of the church
leaders and the local leaders. This is done across denominations
and communities. The program in any area of focus starts small by
selecting few beneficiaries with the minimum number of ten (10).
• The selection is done by the staff through the help of the church
community in the rural areas. The same staff develops leaders in
the community who later helps in trainings and the staff now
concentrates on follow ups to ensure correct trainings are followed
and monitor the development and the rate of adoption of the
Technologies.

• THE PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

• The structure is composed of the professional staff committee the

local community selected committee and the selected leading
farmers who are local trained trainers.
