Movie Review: Good Will Hunting

1. Identify the theme of the movie that has significance to psychiatric nursing. Justify the theme by citing at least 5 scenes to support your answer. 2. Identify the characters (protagonist, antagonists, supports, cameo) portrayed by the actors and the significant roles they played for the movie. Melvin Udall is the protagonist of the movie. He has an obsession over performing activities repeatedly to reduce the anxiety he feels when something unexpected happens beyond his daily plan. Carol Connelly is a supporting character of the movie. She was the waitress who served Melvin his food. She was a part of Melvins daily schedule and Melvin cannot eat or proceed to other planned tasks if she was not present. Simon Bishops is the neighbor of Melvin who made him realize 3. Identify the psychiatric disorder exhibited by the character and describe at least 3 scenes where the disorder was clearly portrayed. 4. Identify at least 5 defense mechanisms. Justify by describing the scenes or quoting the lines from the characters. Suppression Will is hurt that Skylar is leaving him but he diverts his attention by working longer. Denial he denies that he has a problem about trusting others. He denies that he feels alone. He also denies the fact that he feels sad knowing that Skylar is leaving him. Projection When Will sees someone who gets harassed or hurt by others, he beats them up to death since he remembers his own experience with his stepfather. Resistance Will sees the psychologists but resists being vocal about his experiences and feelings. Reaction Formation Lambeau has seen someone who is better than him and said that he wished he had not met Will but he acted the opposite of what he felt by telling people how great Will is. Rationalization Will conceals the true reason why he broke up with Skylar by saying that he doesnt love her and that he would not be liked by her family because he is not wealthy. 5. Identify at least 3 quotations and explain the significance of the script to the dialogue of the characters. Identify whether it's therapeutic or non-therapeutic and describe the technique used. 6.
