Updating your garden can turn a boring backyard into a pleasant relaxating area. Bunnings Garden Centres have qualied horticulturists on hand to give you fresh ideas for plants, pots and sleepers.

Before you start

The soil in this enclosure is raised so the garden bed will receive no run-off water. Therefore consider your plants carefully and plant shrubs, trees and plants that are resilient in drier conditions or install a watering system. Also consider the amount of sunlight the site will receive and wind protection. Consult a qualied Team Member that can provide advice at your local Bunnings Warehouse. Select a site that you wish to transform into a garden bed. Lay a garden hose around the shape of the proposed area to help visualise the setting. Experiment with several shapes or angles before making the nal decision.

How to begin
Mark the bottom sleeper position on the site. Ensure the ground soil is exposed. If not, remove any concrete, paving and grass. Using a space and grubber, shape the sides level and at. Lay a strip of sand 25-50mm deep around the perimeter to the width of the sleeper and screed into a at bed. Establish a level foundation. Use the level on the screed to check. Cut the sleepers to the preferred length with a circular saw. Coat the undersides of the sleeper and any cut ends with the wood preserver. Follow the safety instructions on the product label. Lay the rst sleepers in position. One pair may require trimming to t in between the adjoining pair. Commence to stack the remaining sleepers Skew nail each sleeper to the proceeding one using 100mm x 4.5mm galvanised nails at each end. (See Fig.1) Fill with garden soil up to the underside of the top sleeper. Plant your selection of trees, shrubs, and owers. (See Fig.2) Fig. 2
