Major events It is a tradition and obligation for the Student Union to hold four major internal activiteies each year. With the opportunities of the 30th anniversary celebration we held ve instead. First a booth in the 30th anniversary open day, held in November, was set up. The academic function, a hunger banquet programme named was held in December. Coming next was the religious activity Lively: in February which was made for the students to think about their relationship with God. In March, another religion function, the assembly religious musical which was unofcially named Music For You afterwards was presented on stage. Lastly, I Am The One was held as the second recreational function in May to end up this fruitful year. It helped the schoolmates have better understandings about us in an innovative way. Moreover, an interview was made with Gorson Tsoi as he has a positive image and is a Christian. X. GENERAL COMMENTS & WORDS TO 18th EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE With the effect of NSS, cabinet members of the Student Union are in Form 5 or below, since this academic year, many teachers and students had once worried we were too young and not capable to be the student leaders. Nonetheless, we promised to devote ourselves in serving the schoolmates and the school and passionated ourselves to strive for being the extraordinary student union, and proved ourselves unbounded by the age throughout the year. By the end of the term, we are proud to agree that our works were highly appreciated by the students. While the Student Union this year put one of its focus on welfare affairs, we do not satisfy at being a Welfare and Leisure Club, for we believe a Student Union is more than that. We believe a Student Union should encourage its students to explore beyond the boundary of a local school, and bring reections upon spiritual life and social issues. Many of our activities were made based on these aims. Internally, while our ve major activities have been successful, we would like to address the two religious activity specially. especially the religion musical. Organising a musical was unprecedented in our school, which became a fresh way for students to reect their attitudes towards God. Moreover, we held the rst Black Cloth Movement in June as to as providing a platform for the students to think more about their roles in the society, especially when there is injustice. We believed the school is a place to learn right values and we hoped it could be the tradition of our school. Externally, we explored the joint school networks in order to strive for more welfare and joint school activities for students. Functions as Inter-School three-on-three Basketball Tournament were newly held. It provided a brand new experience to schoolmates and the platform to show off their colors. We also promoted various external activities in hope that students could see more. As the chairperson of the session of 2010-2011 Student Union, I would like to give my heartfelt gratitudes to everyone who reached helping hands for us. Exclusive thanks must be given to our advisors, Mr. Aaron WONG Shun Ki and Mr. YAU Chak Man, and our principal Mr. LAM Ka Hang. Apart from the teaching staff, I would like to thanks all the student

helpers of each function and our executive committee members as well. Without their supports, the Student Union could not have ran so smoothly this year. Suggestions for enhancing Student Union services Having been members of the Executive Committee for a year, my fellow ofcials and me have seen many steps of improvements to be made. They will be detailed as below. a. Council of Student Union Transition Affairs First, we recognise the connection between the predecessors and the succeeders have been so weak through out the years. This is due to lack of meetings and the neutral nature of the immediate past executive committee to the Cabinet Election. This has caused loss of experiences and collective knowledges, which greatly dampens the development and path of improvement of the Student Union, consequently resulting a loss of SCC students benets. It is urged that the state must be changed. A Council of advisors of immediate past ofcial is suggested to be established for concentrating on the transition works of the Student Union. The council should: be formed of 3-5 immediate past Student Union Executive Committee members, regardless of their posts give advices to ALL candidate cabinets during the election period provide advices to the cabinet elect hold no less than two formal meetings with all candidate cabinets during election period hold no less than two formal meetings with the succeeding Student Union post election be advisors of the Student Union until the rst major activity of the succeeding Student Union is held. This is to ensure the succeeding Student Union can fully be advised with the predecessors experience. We are more then delighted to help in the establishment process. b. Wang Hei Publication Committee As room of improvement in Wang Hei is noticed, a Publication Committee is proposed to be set up as a subsidiary of the Student Union. As many students in our school are talented and interest in publication, setting up committees give them an opportunity to show their talents. It also improves the quality of Wang Hei by adding more inspiring passages and sharing. The academic atmosphere could be enhanced. The Publishing Ofcials should be the head of the committee and responsible for the administrative affairs. This suggestion is benecial for readers and writers and it should be solemnly considered. 10

c. Student Union Sub-committee The existence of sub-committee is also worth noticing. The concept of it has been mentioned by the Sixteenth Executive Committee and suggested again by us in the beginning of the term. The existence of it benets both the students and the executive committee by reducing the administrative burden of us and giving the chance of serving the school to schoolmates. Junior form students who are interested in the Student Union jobs and duty would be recruited as to knowing more about the operation of Student union and prepared them to be the future leaders. I sincerely hope that the Student Union Advisor would take it into account. d. About External linkage and External Secretary Last but not least, improving the external linkage is worth considering as well. Since the education nowadays emphasizes the whole person development, we therefore need to broaden our horizons by linking with outsides. Joining more programs is a good way to learn the outsiders good points. Through joining different joint school unions, the SU know more about the large scale and worth joining activities, which may not be noticed by the school. For example, the Young Leader Congress (YLC) provides a platform for students to understand more about the social issues and help out in learning Liberal Studies. We believed the Student Union could take a more active role by screening out the appropriate functions for students. Thus, I suggest the coming executive committee should build an external linkage to provide students more chances of taking part qualied activities. In the future when the external linkages building is more weighted an External Secretary is also suggested to be added to the cabinet in assistance to the External Vice Chairperson. The Secretary should be renamed Internal Secretary in this case. On the whole, Student Union is a place of learning, working and enjoying. I truly hope that the coming executive committee would have a fruitful year and enjoy this once in a lifetime experience as us. In sight of further future, our Cabinet sincerely hopes the Student Union of our school will continue its path of continuos improvement year by year. Prepared by WONG, Yuk Yi Joanne Chairlady 17th Student Union 11
