During the last decade in Argentina the role of media has been changing continuously.

The bias in all media has become evident, spotted and at times exaggerated. Although many have argued that this change is not beneficial for the mere people (not corporations, businesses and such), the present conflict is leading to a more honest scenario where no one claims to have the full truth and the only option for committed citizens is to build through different sources their own criteria and opinion. The present government has started a process of breaking alliances with and between the different corporations in our country, starting with a change in tax regulation affecting the country sector. As a consequence, a large amount of people from the different sectors of society started to react against the government. At the same time the government media were also gaining popularity, in a way that a confrontation was created between the two sides. The increasing tension between the parties led to controversies and a complete lack of objectivity in the flow of news and information. There is no doubt that journalism has acquired a very important and particularly solid role in society, people rely on journalists to provide them with relevant information. The place given to journalism in our country ten years ago was quite different than the present one. The news were delivered, for example, in television, by hosts who acted very solemn and as if they had been delivering the plain truth. It was not common to see opinions very clearly, the bias was evident mainly in the selection of news and more discretely in discourse. It was known that the three or four most popular newspapers had an ideological orientation: more left or right wing oriented, more or less intellectual, more or less sensacionalist. The bias was present but less evident. Nowadays the conflict between thee govenrment and corporations in Argentina is beyond compare. Not only do newspapers and news programmes on television select the information, they also express opinion openly, in a way that is far from professional. It seems that the news broadcasting and newspapers are not interested any more in covering their intentions, and the conflict between officialists, oppositors and other parties which are more or less partial has become a dominant subject, even more than the mere news. It is yet not clear whether they are really against each other or if they have the shared intention of deviating people's attention to whatever is convenient for each; as a common citizen it is hard work to find out. Information is reality. Human beings build the reality they live on taking information and constructing their posibilities, problems, dreams and tragedies. The flow of information is essential to this process, and naturally, most people just live and do not pay much attention to the reality they are

constructing or the reality they are being constructed in, this is the place given to journalism and mass media. Advertising plays also and important (and not separated at all from current journalism) role in building modern society. And these roles are chiefly why journalists, publicist, and even film productors study hard for years to achieve degrees in media production. And even more importantly, these are the main reasons why ethics and principles were once high valued. Nowadays, there are no ethics nor principles: there are politicians, corporations, companies delivering messages. Put this way, the panorama seems to be very discouraging in the sense that our reality is being constructed by the intentions of people and entities we really do not know. However, the scenario is now better than ever before. It is now crystal clear that the role of all kinds of media (public, private, biased or partial) is not merely for the benefit of society, but mostly for their own benefit, and now every citizen has to create their own criteria, evaluating the different sources, making choices and taking decisions. At this point, citizens are being forced to face a more adult approach to information, and along with responsibility comes true freedom.
