Question 3 Marks Answer Note

(a) 1 Making the right inference
The height of the track(hillock) affects the velocity
(b) 1 Building an appropriate hypothesis
The greater the height, the larger the velovity.
(c)(i) 1 Stating the aim of the experiment
To study the relationship between the height and
velocity
(ii) 1 Stating the correct variables
Manipulated variable : height (of track), h // number
of similar wooden blocks
Responding variable : velocity, v

(iv) 1 Describing set up of the apparatus

Ticker tape Ticker timer Trolley

a.c. power track

supply

v) Stating the procedure of the experiment

1. Set up apparatus as shown above.

1 2. Set the track so that the height of track, h = 15.0 cm.
1 3. Switch on the power supply and allow the trolley to come down the
track. Calculate the velocity, v (of the trolley) from the ticker-tape.
1 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for h = 20.0 cm, 25.0 cm, 30.0 cm and 35.0 cm.
5. Tabulate data.
