III/IV B.Tech I Semester, 2011-12 COURSE HANDOUT Date: 09-07-2011 Course No: Course Title: Microprocessors & Microcontrollers Course Coordinator: K.Harikishore Team of Instructors: K.Rajendra Prasad, T.S.R.Prasad, K.Hari kishore Course Description: a) Unit I deal with the basics of microcomputer,8086 Microprocessor architecture, pin diagram, Instruction set descriptions, Assembler directives, stack structure, procedures and macros, 8086 Interrupts & interrupt responses b) Unit II, Introduction to Microcontroller families, Architecture of an 8051 microcontroller, Internal and External memories, Counters and Timers, serial communication interrupts. c) Unit III deals with the 8051 Instruction Set classification, Basic assembly language programming using arithmetic, logical, bit manipulation instructions, Programming Timer, counter, serial data communication and Interrupts. d) In Unit IV, deals with various types of Programmable Interfacing applications Using 8051 like 7-segment display, LEDs, stepper motor, Matrix Keyboard and LCD module, D/A and A/D converter e) Unit V deals with Industrial Applications of 8051like Measurement Applications using sensors, linear variable Differential Transformer (LVDT), speed measurement (RPM meter), Digital Thermometer Scope and Objective: The course is designed for the third year first semester students. The course will provide an over view of microprocessor and microcontrollers. The course will give an idea to about the different architectures and the programming skills for microprocessor and microcontrollers. The course gives the practical idea to interface different application modules using microcontrollers. Student gets an idea about real time industrial applications using 8051 microcontroller and can be much more helpful to the projects like automated systems like robotics.
