Dear Puan Norliah, Commission to Prepare Manuscript We are pleased to commission you, together with the other members of your writing team, to prepare a manuscript for the book entitled Sains Tingkatan 2 in accordance with the schedules, guidelines and other relevant specifications provided by the Ministry of Education (MOE). The said book will be submitted to the MOE for consideration and adoption under the ministrys textbook loan scheme (Skim Pinjaman Buku Teks or SPBT). Scope of Work As agreed among the team members, each writer shall be responsible for preparing their portion of the manuscript as follows: 1. 2. 3. 4. In addition to the above, the team is required to provide the preface or introduction to the book (which, among other information, includes a guide explaining how the book is to be used), a glossary of important terms, and the answers to all the questions in each unit of the book. Compensation The writing team will be compensated as follows: 1. In the event the book is approved and adopted by the MOE a. A royalty of ten per cent (10%) of revenues received from the sale of the book will be paid to the writing team. b. The proportion of royalty each writer receives shall be based on their contribution to the contents of the book in its final published form. 2. In the event the book is not approved by the MOE a. An honorarium of RM6000 (six thousand ringgit) will be paid to the writing team. b. The proportion of honorarium each writer receives shall be based on their contribution to the contents of the book as submitted to the MOE for evaluation. c. We reserve the right to rework or reformat the rejected book and use its contents in one or more spin-off products (such as a workbook or study guide). In this case, the above-mentioned honorarium will be considered an advance against any royalty each writer may receive for the sale of these spin-off products.

Conformance to Specifications The materials provided by each writer must meet the requirements stipulated by the MOE in its guidelines as well as the syllabus and curriculum specifications for the subject Sains Tingkatan 2. In addition, the materials must comply with the quality standards set by the editors of the book/project and any other requirements they may specify from time to time. Where necessary the writers shall, at the request of the book/project editors, revise their submitted materials to comply with these standards and requirements. Submission of Materials Materials should be submitted in the following manner: 1. Handwritten or typed using MS Word a. If handwritten, the writer should submit their original copy and ensure that they retain a photocopy as a back-up. All handwriting must be legible. Handwritten materials must be submitted on A4 paper with 20-25 mm margins. b. If typed on MS Word, the writer should submit a soft copy and ensure that they have a back-up copy. All materials must be printable on A4 paper with 20-25 mm marginswriters are required to set up their document paper size and margins accordingly. 2. Submitted materials should include the writers specifications for illustrations, graphics or images. To avoid confusion, instructions for layout or organization of the materials should be included where necessary; these may be in the form of roughs or sketches. 3. All materials must be submitted on or before the agreed upon deadlines. Documentation of Sources Any contribution incorporating extracted or quoted material (text, images, etc.) whose copyright does not belong to you must be accompanied by a citation of the source from which the material is taken. If the source is a book, magazine or any other printed matter, a photocopy of the page or pages from which the material is taken should be submitted together with a photocopy of the title page and copyright page (or masthead). If the source document is electronically published, a printout of the pages containing the extracted material should be included along with information about the publisher or copyright holder. Kindly ensure that all sources are accurately documented so that copyright holders may be contacted as necessary. Attendance of MOE Meetings and Briefings It may become necessary to attend meetings with the MOE as well as any briefings it may conduct during the preparation of the book. You should make yourself available for these meetings and briefings. Restriction on Competitive Work By accepting this commission, you agree not to contribute in any manner or capacity whatsoever to any effort, work or project that competes with (or is likely to compete with) this project or that may jeopardize or adversely affect the MOEs decision to adopt this book. This restriction shall apply for a period of sixteen (16) months from the date of this letter.
