January 6-7, 2011 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Richard Sambrano (214) 601-8681 richardnoesambrano@yahoo.com or Sylvia Lagos 214-207-7067 SLagos57@aol.com CONFERENCE PROVIDES INFORMATION ON A VARIETY OF KEY LEGAL ISSUES AFFECTING ELDERLY AS WELLS AS WHERE TO OBTAIN OTHER SERVICES SUCH AS HOME REPAIRS, TRANSPORTATION, HOT MEALS, CAREGIVERR SUPPORT AND FRIENDLY VISITS January 6-7 from 9:00am to 3:00pm at Dallas City Hall Lower Level Auditorium at 1500 Marilla, Dallas Texas. The conference and exhibits will be open to the public. Registration is free. Taquitos will be provided by the elderly at a minimum price ($1) and/or catered by a restaurant at a reduced price. Conference proceedings will be conducted in both English and Spanish. . Bilingual attorneys and experts will educate Latino elderly and their families about: Wills, Medical Powers of Attorney, Advance Directives: What are they? Why they are needed Health Session: Medicare, Medicaid Housing Rights: Affordable Housing, Landlord- Tenant Rights Employment Rights: Age Discrimination Social Security Senior Adult Services Experts will provide information on how to: Provide information to seniors and caregivers so that they can make good choices Do individual assessments to help seniors determine needs and identify options Access transportation to help seniors stay independent Access free nutritious meals Set up a friendly volunteeer5 visiting program to reduce isolation Make modifications or repairs at home to reduce or prevent accidents Put together a monthly publication to cover agency news, health information, and event calendars for senior centers

The 2012 Latino(a) Elderly Conference is an education and outreach project organized by La Voz del Anciano, a nonprofit charitable and educational organization, whose mission is to advocate for and provide services to the increasingly underserved Latino elderly population of the Dallas area. Conference Partners and Sponsors: The LULAC State Director for the Elderly, Richard Sambrano and the LULAC District 3 3 Deputy District Director for the Elderly, Trini Garza, are assisting La voz del Anciano Executive Director Sylvia Lagos and its board in the planning of the conference. They will be soliciting the partnership of corporations that have an interest in the elderly and sponsorships by such organizations as Legal Aid of Northwest Texas, AARP of Texas, the Area Agency on Aging, United Way of Dallas County, the U.S. Equal Employment Commission, Medicaid/Medicare, Social Security Administration, ABC Medical Center of Dallas, UT Southwestern Medical center, Affordable Home Health, Dallas Methodist Medical Center, Parkland Memorial Hospital, and a host of public and private corporations. Marketing packages will be sent to potential partners and sponsors inviting their participation.
