Overview
A PC with a serial port, terminal emulation software, and a serial cable with a male DB-9 connector for the OPTI-6100 end are also required.

Use the following procedures to login to the SCM and provision the general settings:

2. When connecting a terminal that is set for parallel to the craft port, disable it and use serial. When connecting a PC emulating a VT100 terminal to the craft port, set the PC for direct connect (as opposed to dial up connection). 3. When using the rear OPTI-6100 ADMIN connector, use a null modem cable or a Y-cable with a male DB-25 connector on the OPTI-6100 end. The ADMIN port has a default baud rate of 9600 baud. 4. When using the front craft port, use a serial cable with a male DB-9 connector on the OPTI-6100 end. 5. Plug the male end of the data cable into the OPTI-6100 chassis. Make the appropriate connection to the VT100 terminal.
Logon
Logon to the OPTI-6100 using the following procedure: 1. After establishing a connection (refer to Connect to a VT100 Terminal on page 5) to the OPTI-6100, press any key. The cursor will be placed at the Account Name field, waiting for an account name to be input. NOTE Logon names and passwords can be provisioned to be case sensitive for additional security. Default accounts are ADMIN, READONLY, and READWRITE. The default password for each of these accounts is PASSWORD. Login with ADMIN account privileges to change passwords, account names, and privileges. 2. At the Account Name field, input the account name for the OPTI-6100, and press ENTER. The cursor will be placed at the Password field, waiting for a password. 3. At the Password field, enter the password for the OPTI-6100, and press ENTER. Upon entering the correct password, the OPTI-6100 Main menu appears and is accessible. NOTE If valid authentication information is not entered within one minute, the session expires.

13. From the General menu, select Auto-Logoff, and press ENTER. The following settings are available: Auto-Logoff Auto-Logoff Time 14. To enable or disable Auto-Logoff: a. Select Auto-Logoff, and press ENTER. b. Select Enable or Disable, and press ENTER. 15. To enter the time until Auto-Logoff: a. Select Auto-Logoff Time, and press ENTER. b. Type a time between 1 and 60 minutes, and press ENTER. 16. To toggle Logoff Craft Port When DTR Lost, select Enable or Disable from the General menu, and press ENTER. 17. To restore the SCM settings to the factory defaults, select Restore Factory Defaults from the General menu, and press ENTER. A confirmation prompt appears. 18. From the General menu, select Security Administration, and press ENTER. This menu is used to view the currently logged in users, edit user accounts, create new user accounts, select various security options, restore the user accounts security options back to the default settings, and access the Technical Support account. 19. From the General menu, select Change ADMIN Password, and press ENTER. 20. Type an alphanumeric password up to 16 characters, and press ENTER.

3. In the SONET DCC Upper Layers Provisioning menu, examine the NSAP Area Address. Compare the value displayed to the value of the NSAP Area Address specified in Table 1 on page 1. If they are identical, then proceed to step 6. 4. Select NSAP Area Address and press ENTER. 5. Update the NSAP area address by selecting the appropriate option to edit the routing domain or routing area, or to define a custom address. 6. Proceed to step 18 if DCC communications is not desired for the high speed interface(s). 7. From the SONET SDCC Provisioning menu, select DCC Interface Provisioning, and press ENTER. 8. Type C to create a new DCC interface. A list of unassigned high-speed and mid-speed facilities that support DCC communications will be displayed. 9. Select High Speed 1, and press ENTER. 10. From the DCC Interface: High Speed 1 menu, select Name, and press ENTER. 11. Type a name that describes the far end system that this DCC interface connects to, and press ENTER. 12. If the network topology specified in Table 1 is UPSR, proceed to step 14. 13. Provision the DCC mode for a Terminal (point-to-point) network topology, as necessary: a. From the DCC Interface: High Speed 1 menu, examine the DCC Mode. Compare the value displayed to the value of the DCC Mode specified in Table 1. If they are different, then proceed to step 15. If both values are Network, set this DCC interface to User. If both values are User, set this DCC interface to Network: b. From the DCC Interface: High Speed 1 menu, select DCC Mode, and press ENTER. c. From the DCC Mode menu, select Network or User, as necessary, and press ENTER. d. Proceed to step 15. 14. Provision the DCC mode for a UPSR (ring) network topology, as necessary: a. From the DCC Interface: High Speed 1 menu, select DCC Mode, and press ENTER. b. From the DCC Mode menu, select User, and press ENTER. 15. Change the service state of the DCC interface: a. From the DCC Interface: High Speed 1 menu, select Service State, and press ENTER. b. From the Service State menu, select In Service, and press ENTER. NOTE The remaining provisioning items on the DCC Interface: High Speed 1 menu may be left at their default settings. 16. Press ESC to return to the DCC Interfaces menu.

17. Configure OPTI-6100 for a UPSR topology with DCC communications over the high-speed interface, as necessary: NOTE High Speed 2 is only an option if the equipped OMM card is an OMM3VIR, OMM3VLR, OMM3VLR2, OMM12VIR, OMM12VLR, or OMM12VLR2, and the OMM is provisioned for UPSR mode. a. Type C to create a new DCC interface. A list of high-speed and mid-speed facilities that support DCC communications is displayed. b. Select High Speed 2, and press ENTER. c. From the DCC Interface: High Speed 2 menu, select Name, and press ENTER. d. Enter a name that describes the far end system that this DCC interface connects to, and press ENTER. e. From the DCC Interface: High Speed 2 menu, select DCC Mode, and press ENTER. f. From the DCC Mode menu, select Network, and press ENTER. g. From the DCC Interface: High Speed 2 menu, select Service State, and press ENTER. h. From the Service State menu, select In Service, and press ENTER. NOTE The remaining provisioning items on the DCC Interface: High Speed 2 menu may be left at their default settings. i. Press ESC to return to the DCC Interfaces menu.

18. Configure DCC communications over the mid-speed facilities, as necessary: NOTE Mid-speed DCC interfaces are supported on DS3/EC1 (DS3EC1M, DS3EC1M3, and DS3M3E) and OC-3 (O3TMIR, O3TMLR, O3TMM, and O3TME) tributary modules. DS3/EC1 modules must be provisioned for EC1 service. a. Type C to create a new DCC interface. A list of unassigned high-speed and mid-speed facilities that support DCC communications is displayed. b. Select the desired mid-speed facility, and press ENTER. c. From the DCC Interface: Mid Speed menu, select Name, and press ENTER. d. Enter a name that describes the far end system that this DCC interface connects to, and press ENTER. e. From the DCC Interface: Mid Speed menu, select DCC Mode, and press ENTER. f. From the DCC Mode menu, select Network, and press ENTER. g. From the DCC Interface: Mid Speed menu, select Service State, and press ENTER. h. From the Service State menu, select In Service, and press ENTER. NOTE The remaining provisioning items on the DCC Interface: Mid Speed menu may be left at their default settings. i. Press ESC to return to the DCC Interfaces menu. Repeat step 18 for each additional mid-speed DCC interface to be assigned. NOTE OPTI-6100 systems equipped with OMM3 modules support up to three (3) mid-speed DCC interfaces. Systems equipped with OMM12 modules support up to six (6) mid-speed DCC interfaces.

Final Steps After the above steps have been completed and operation is verified, place the Remote OPTI-6100(s) In Service to enable the alarm reporting functions. If all the enabled circuits are terminated, there should be no alarms present on the system. Check the System Alarm menu to verify that there are no alarms present. If alarms are present, they should be identified and resolved before turning the circuits over to the customer. This completes the Provision the SCM stage of the Quick Start procedure.

12. To create a new connection, select New Connection, and press ENTER. 13. Repeat from step 7 through step 12 to set the payload type and to map an STS to each equipped mid-speed group. STS-3C Mapping 14. From the Provisioning menu, select Mapping, and press ENTER. 15. From the Mapping menu, select STS-3C Mapping and press ENTER. 16. From the selected Mapping menu, select the STS-3C to be mapped and press ENTER. 17. From the Mapping Action menu, select an available option, and press ENTER. A prompt appears, requiring the mapping to be preprovisioned as Ethernet or nonEthernet. 18. Select Ethernet or Other, and press ENTER. If Ethernet is selected, a further prompt for a port assignment appears. To create a hairpin mapping, simply select cards in both panes. To create a loopback, select the same item in both panes. Passthroughs cannot be created in this menu. 19. From the Select Drop menu, select the mid-speed slot to be mapped to the STS, and press ENTER. 20. Repeat step 14 through step 19 to set the payload type and to map an STS to each equipped mid-speed group. 21. Repeat this procedure to map both HS1 and HS2.
