Miacalcin- Calcitonoin
-Increase Ca++- treat osteoporosis
How to use:

-prime sprayer hold upright (pt away from urself/people/animals)—spray until fine spray
To use the nasal spray:
1.) Place the nozzle of the bottle firmly in one nostril.
2.) Hold your head upright and spray 1 spray into your nostril. You do not need to inhale at the
same time as you spray.
3.) Use the opposite nostril each day. (Alternate nostrils daily)
4.) Do not use more than 1 spray per day.

Side effects:
•diarrhea
•back or joint pain
•decreased appetite
•headache
•heartburn
•irritation of the nose including crustiness, dryness, itching, or an uncomfortable feeling soreness
across the bridge of the nose
•nausea or vomiting
•runny nose
•stuffy nose
•watery eyes

Unusual but serious: report to doctor


•chest pain, fast or irregular heartbeat (palpitations)
•difficulty breathing, wheezing
•dizziness
•fever, chills
•nosebleed or nose sores
•rash or itching (hives)
•swelling of the tongue, difficulty swallowing
•tingling in the hands or feet

Drug Interactions:
Lithium

Compliance:
Important to keep your bones strong to prevent or treat osteoporosis

Missed Doses:
Take when remember unless it’s the next day—skip it. Don’t double up.

Where can I keep my medicine?


-Keep out of the reach of children.
-Store it unopened in a refrigerator--Do not freeze.
-After you have primed the nasal spray, you can keep the bottle at room temperature for one month—
then throw away!!

Refills

-Treat mild to moderate inflammatory acne

How to use:
-external use only,
-apply only to the skin. Do not take by mouth
-Do not apply to raw or irritated skin.
-Avoid getting medicine in your eyes, lips, nose, mouth, or other sensitive areas.
-Before applying, wash the affected area with a gentle cleanser and pat dry.
-Apply enough medication to cover the area and rub in gently.

Side effects:
•increased sensitivity to the sun
•mild to moderate skin irritation, dryness or peeling
•mild to moderate skin burning or stinging
Uncommon but serious- report to doctor asap
•severe skin irritation
•severe skin dryness and peeling
•severe skin burning
•skin rash or hives

**acne may worsen is 1st few weeks then get better (up to 8-12)

Drug interactions:
-Don’t use other acne medications unless directed

Compliance:
Keep using even after acne decreases to control it

Missed dose:
Apply ASAP unless close to next dose—skip it NEVER double up

Storage:
Keep out of the reach of children.
Store in the refrigerator.
Do not use past the 3 month expiration date. (applied to the medication container by your pharmacist)

Ciloxan- Ciprofloxacin
-Antibiotic that treats eye infections that cause conjunctivitis
How to use:
Ointment:
1. Wash hands before and after
2. Tilt your head back slightly and pull your lower eyelid down with your index finger to form a
pouch. (Try not to touch the tip of the tube, to your eye, fingertips, or any other surface)
3. Squeeze the end of the tube to apply a thin layer to the inside of the lower eyelid.
4. Close the eye gently to spread the ointment. Your vision may blur for a few minutes.
Eye Solution:
1.Wash hands before and after use.
2. Tilt your head back slightly and pull your lower eyelid down with your index finger to form a
pouch. Try not to touch the tip of the dropper to your eye, fingertips, or any other surface.
3. Squeeze the prescribed number of drops into the pouch.
4. Close the eye gently to spread the drops. Your vision may blur for a few minutes.

Side effects: (rare)


•blurred vision that does not go away
•burning, stinging, or itching of the eyes or eyelids
•redness, swelling, or pain of the eyes or eyelids

Drug interaction:
Don’t use other eye products.

Compliance:
Finish course of therapy even if you think its better to get full effect of med and no reoccurrence.

Missed Dose:
Take it ASAP, unless close to next dose then skip it.

Storage:
Keep out of the reach of children.
Store between 2 and 25 degrees C (36 and 77 degrees F).

Serevent- Salmeterol inhalation aerosol
-Bronchodilator (slow-acting)
-prevent asthma attacks
-treat symptoms on chronic lung disease (emphysema/chronic bronchitis)
How to use:
Aerosol:
1. Shake the canister well.
2. Tilt your head back slightly.
3. Breathe out fully, emptying as much air as possible from your lungs.
4. Keep the inhaler about 1 inch from your open mouth (or place the mouthpiece loosely between your
open lips and over your tongue), keeping the canister upright.
5. Press down on the inhaler (one puff) while breathing in deeply and slowly. Hold your breath for at
least 10 seconds and then exhale (breathe out).
6. Wait for at least 1 to 2 minutes between puffs. Do not use more than two puffs at a time, unless your
prescriber or health care professional tells you otherwise.
Iinhalation powder:
1. Open and prepare mouthpiece of the diskus device and slide device lever to activate the first dose.
(don’t advance level more then once or its wasted)
2. Holding the diskus mouthpiece level to, but away from, the mouth, breathe out as much air as is
comfortable. Do not breathe into the mouthpiece!
3. Pplace the device mouthpiece loosely between your open lips and over your tongue, keeping the
device level with your mouth.
4. Slowly breathe the dose in. Hold your breath for at least 10 seconds and then exhale (breathe out).
5. After use, close the diskus device as directed. This will also reset the dose dispensing lever for your
next scheduled dose. Do not use more than one puff at a time.

Side Effects:
•cough
•diarrhea
•headache
•muscle cramps and pains

-antibiotic that treats infections of skin, respiratory tract, bone, sinuses, ears, urinary

How to use?
Solution:
-Swollow the tablets or capsules with a drink of water. w/ or w/out food.
-If cephalexin upsets your stomach it may help to take it with food.

Oral Suspension:
-Shake well before using.
-Use a specially marked spoon or container to measure your medicine. (don’t use household utensils)

Drug Interaction:
•other antibiotics
•diuretics ("water pills")
•probenecid

Compliance:
Finish course of therapy even if better. Impt not to miss doses for full effectiveness of the medicine.

Missed Dose:
Take it ASAP, unless close to next dose then skip it. There should be an interval of at least 4-6 hours
between doses.
