Autumn/Fall
Temperature And The Sun The Earth receives heat from the sun.
Parts of the Earth have darkness or night while other areas have light or daytime. It is warmer during the day than it is at night. We dont see the sun at night. There is a reason why we cant see the sun at night. A good way to learn something and to understand it is to do an experiment.
1. You will need a globe or a large ball and a ashlight. You also will need to have a fairly dark room. 2. Set the ball or globe on a table. Shine the light on the ball from about 6 feet away from it. 3. Observe the ball to see where the light is shining. Turn the ball at different angles, and turn it around.
Write about what you have observed. If you can gure out why some parts of the Earth have night while others have daytime, write about it here. ________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________
When you observed the light on the ball or globe you could see that some of the ball received most of the light, some received some of the light, and some of the ball did not have any light shining on it. This shows you how the Earth has different temperatures during the day and night. If the sunlight is shining directly on the area where you live it is warmer. When the part of the Earth where you live tilts away from the sun, it receives less sunlight and becomes cooler.

The season of autumn/fall is also called the season of fall. It is one of the four temperate seasons. Many years ago in the 16th century the season autumn/fall was called harvest. It was called harvest because most of the farmers would harvest their crops at this time.
Gradually people moved from farms to towns and cities. The word harvest was no longer used as a season. People in the cities and towns considered the word harvest as a farm or agriculture term. The words autumn and fall began to replace the word harvest. Fall is a Middle English term meaning, fall of the leaf, or fall of the year.
When the English settlers came to North America, they brought their English language with them. They referred to the harvest season as fall. The word autumn began to be used about the same time as fall in North America. The word fall referring to a season is rarely used in Britain today. They prefer the word autumn.
In North America both fall and autumn are interchangeable. The usage of fall in the world is used less and is only used in the United States. The word autumn is preferred more in poetic, literary and scientic usage in the U.S. The word fall is preferred as poetic and literary in Britain.
Think of a name you would call the season of fall/autumn. Be creative. Example: Gathering

Autumn/Fall
The sun gives us our four seasons. The Earth tilts on its axis.
If the Earth did not tilt we would not have our seasons of summer, fall, winter, and spring.
The tilt of the Earth and the sun tells us the season we are having.
In the fall our part of the Earth begins to tilt away from the sun. Our nights start to become longer and our days become shorter.
Fall is the season between summer and winter. The weather becomes cool. The green leaves on the trees turn many beautiful colors. THE FOUR SEASONS SUMMER
