Father Barron illuminates and explains the conviction of the Catholic Faith that Jesus of Nazareth is the promised messiah and the revelation of God becomes man. He shows how Jesus fulfills the four tasks of the Messiah according to the Old and New Testaments, and how the living legacy of Christ, is proclaimed by the Church. October 19, 2011 Week 2: Happy Are We- The Teachings of Jesus The revelation of Jesus as God is accompanied by a stunning invitation to a unique new way of life, explained in the teachings of Jesus. To every generation, the words of Jesus have proven fascinating, sometimes confounding, deeply transformative, and always unforgettable. The Ineffable Mystery of GodThat Than Which Nothing Greater Can Be Thought Father Barron considers St. Anslems description of God as that than which nothing greater can be thought and explains St. Thomas Aquinas arguments which support the claim that God truly exists. He also speaks about the nature of God, as well as the challenging question of evil and the existence of God. November 9, 2011 Week 4: Our Tainted Natures Solitary Boast-Mary, the Mother of God This lesson correlates the Catholic Faiths testimony to the revelation of God in Christ with the vivid practices of reverence offered to his Mother. Mary is explained as an on-going presence, an actor in the life of the Church. November 16, 2011 The Indispensable MenPeter, Paul and the Missionary Adventure Father Barron calls Peter and Paul two indispensable men, the ones without whom the Church never would have emerged and survived. In telling each mans story, Father Barron shows how the Holy Spirit worked through apostles and disciples to build the Church. A Body Both Suffering and GloriousThe Mystical Union of Christ and the Church Clearly answering the question, What is the Church? Father Barron presents the reality of the Church as one, holy, catholic and apostolic. The Body of Christ can be seen all over the earth, while still escaping total understanding as the mystical union between Christ and his Church. Word Made Flesh, True Bread of HeavenThe Churchs Sacrament & Worship Father Barron explores the notion that all value is summed up in the liturgy, the supreme act by which we commune with God. Considered by the Catholic Faith to be the source and summit of its identity and mission, the Eucharist is the central practice of the Churchs culture. December 14, 2011 Week 8: A Vast Company of Witnesses-The Communion of Saints Father Barron gives consideration to some of the Churchs greatest heroes, and demonstrates their extraordinary examples display both the passion and the creative potential of the Catholic Church. Highlighting Katherine Drexl, Therese of Liseux, Edith Stein, and Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Father Barron tells the story of the church as a vast company of witnesses who are called by Christ to be a communion of saints. January 11, 2012 Week 9: The Fire of His Love-Prayer and the Life of the Spirit In this lesson, Father Barron explores Catholic spirituality, which is centered on prayer. As the catechism of the Catholic Church state, Prayer is the lifting up of the mind and heart to God. January 18, 2012 Week 10: World Without End-The Last Things This lesson explores the Churchs conviction that life here and now is preparation for an extraordinary world that is yet to come-a supernatural destiny. Father Barron presents the Catholic version death, judgment, heaven, hell and purgatory. December 7, 2011 Week 7: November 30, 2011 Week 6: Week 5: October 26, 2011 Week 3:

Year of the Eucharist 2010-2011 Our Thoughts of Youth Leadership Conference 2011
Page 9
The weekend began with a keynote address to remind us that we all in the Holy presence of God. The music was uplifting and presented this years theme, Bread of Life, Covenant of Love. We met new friends and reconnected with old friends. Each breakout session, parish time and large group time were inspirational. We were taught that we are all members of One Church, unified by Christ through Gods Promise of the Holy Spirit. With this powerful message running through our minds, we experienced Reconciliation in a way that we had never before seen. What an awe-inspiring experience, with 700 teens receiving the mercy and grace of the healing sacrament, while adoration was underway and we were in the midst of the Blessed Sacrament! And as a transition between these two powerful experiences is a sea of peer affirmation, with stations for reflection and veneration of the cross. Saturday started with Mass on the grass, joined by the seminarians and Franciscan Sisters, on a gloriful sunny morning. The readings, homily, and music continued to echo the theme of Jesus being both the Bread of Life and Gods Covenant of Love. Our parish adult leaders helped us to reflect on how we are the Body of Christ to others, and our keynote speakers helped us the understand ministry in 3 easy steps Step In, Step Up, and Step Out! We all agree that the most memorable experience was the closing liturgy on the last day of the Year of the Eucharist on Corpus Christi Sunday. Toward the end of the Mass, just prior to the procession of the Blessed Sacrament to the St. Charles Borromeo Pastoral Center for reposing the Eucharist, there was an unexplained power outage. We soon learned that a plane had crashed upon landing at the Romeoville Airport, right in front of the Pastoral Center. If the Bishop had not been 10 minutes late for the start of the liturgy, we would have been processing to the Pastoral Center and many on the ground would have been injured by the crash. Unfortunately the pilot and passenger did not survive the crash, but in His mercy, all who were present to adore Him were spared. From our small group of youth leaders at YLC, two of our teens have been selected to attend the National Catholic Youth Conference in Indianapolis in November. Another teen will be attending the March for Life in Washington, D.C. in January. Two of our teens serve as ushers at weekly mass, one teen is a catechist helper, and two have been asked to participate in the Diocesan Youth Council for the 2012 YLC. We know that this weekend is not possible without the prayers and financial support from our parishioners at Christ the King. We are all so grateful to you for all that you do for us and all the young members of our Church. In Christ, Sean, Nick, Emily, Josh, and Gaetano
