Title: An In-depth analysis on the awareness of selected Filipino college students on

Global Warming.

Adviser: Mr. Emmanuel Aguilar

Objectives:

General Objectives:

The purpose of this study is to analyze the level of awareness of selected

Filipino college students on Global Warming, its causes and effects on the

environment and society as a whole.

Specific Objectives:

Specifically, this research paper sought to answer the following questions:

1. What is the depth of understanding of these selected Filipino college students on

global warming?

2. Where or what source have they heard about global warming?

3. What do they think about global warming?

4. Does this issue concern them personally?

5. If in case, what are the factors that hinder them to have a better understanding

about it?

6. Why is it important for college students to have a better understanding about it?
Methodology:

The researcher used the descriptive method of research. The researcher used

different studies and literatures from foreign and local references like books,

encyclopedias and articles from periodicals and the Internet. The researcher distributed

survey forms to its subjects that will be used for further analysis.

Findings:

Based on the gathered and analyzed data, the following findings were derived:

1. Most of the selected Filipino college students have heard or read the term “global

warming”. However, most of them don’t know and understand the whole topic.

The facts, details and the real idea about global warming is still a confusing,

uncertain topic for most of them.

2. The sources that most of them have heard or read the term “global warming” are

the books, internet, periodicals, lectures and documentaries, specifically the

television medium, in which every news and advertisements of global warming in

all parts of the world are spread.

3. Most of these selected Filipino college students think of global warming as a

serious problem. They think that its effects affects everyone even the people here

in the Philippines. Also, they believe on the fact that human activities are to be

blamed for the causes of this issue. They also think that preventive measures can

still be done to reduce/prevent its effects, like planting of trees, conservation of

energy and proper disposal of wastes. Simple yet effective measures that college

students can do.

4. The issue of global warming, as most of them have heard or read made them feel

threatened and more concerned since most of the news, advertisements and

documentaries state the effects of it in the near future.

5. The factors that hinder them to have a better understanding on the issue of global

warming are the lack of initiative by the people who are responsible for spreading

the facts and details of global warming to other people. For some of the

respondents, they think the government’s effort in making the Filipinos more

aware of the issue is not enough.

6. Most of these selected college students agree that it is important for them, as

college students to have a better understanding about it since the effects of it

concern them too. Also, because their level of concern is relatively high, they tend

to be curious on the facts and ideas that surround this particular topic.

Conclusions:

Based on the findings, the researcher has drawn the following conclusions:

1. The depth of understanding of most of the college students in Manila Central

University is not enough since the important facts and ideas about global warming

is not understood well. Their awareness on the issue is not enough to say that they

understand completely the issue of global warming.

2. The sources in which they have heard or read the issue of global warming don’t

provide enough information which contributes to the lack of awareness by most

Filipino college students on the issue of global warming.

3. Most of these selected Filipino college students are willing to make personal

changes in their everyday life just to contribute in the reduction/prevention of the

causes and possible effects of global warming in the future.

4. Most of these selected Filipino college students, based on what they have heard or

read believe that human activities in all parts of the world are the cause or have

done the cause in the increasing effects of global warming.

5. Most of these selected Filipino college students believe that it is important for

them, college students to have a better understanding on the issue of global

warming. Also, that proper awareness is the important part of solving the problem

of global warming.

Recommendations:

Based on the findings and conclusions, it is therefore recommended that:

1. Government officials and environmentalists who are responsible in spreading the

problem of global warming should exert more effort in making the people more

aware and vigilant since this issue is indeed a serious global problem.
2. That the people, in turn be more active and participative in this issue. Everyone

should take part in listening, understanding and acting that will be the first step to

reducing/preventing the causes and possible effects of global warming in the

future.

3. That Filipino college students, being educated and productive in the society be

more participative in these kinds of concern. That their opinions regarding this

issue be heard especially in making younger generation of students aware in this

issue.

4. That government agencies on environment welfare and environmental groups,

private or not, local and international provide opportunities to concerned youth in

terms of projects and activities that can increase their awareness at the same time

participate in reducing/preventing the causes of global warming.

5. This study is open to any comments, suggestions and for perusal to come up with

a related study or research that will yield better results.
