Preparatory Activity
Good afternoon class.
Before we start, let us greet our
visitors for today. Pupil’s singing the chant.

Ok, now I prepared a song

entitled “Chuga Dance”. I will sing it
first and show you the steps then after
that we will do it all together.

Did you enjoy our sing and dance number? Yes ma’am.
Alright. I am happy to see that everybody
Enjoyed our sing and dance number.

1. Drill Mastery

Written: Class, there is a hidden

message on the board. What you are
going to do is to find the factors of
the given number in each box. We
48

O = 6X6 I = 6X8 V = 7X7

T = 8X7 M = 9X9 A = 6X7
L = 8X8 H = 9X6 E = 9X8

2. Review
Ok class, let us check
your assignment yesterday.
Read first the problem then
We will going to answer.
Is that clear class? Yes ma’am.

Joan sells ripe bananas in Marikina Public Market. She has 3 kaings of
bananas to sell. Each kaing has 50 bananas. One morning she sold 80 of the bananas. How many
more bananas were left for her to sell?

What is asked in the problem? Numbers of bananas were left her to

sell.

What are the given facts? 3 kaings of bananas with 50 pieces

each and 80 bananas that was sold

What is the hidden question? How many bananas are there in

3 kaings?

What are the processes to be used? Multiplication and Subtraction.

What is the mathematical sentence? 80 - ( 3 x 50 ) = n

What is the final answer? 70 bananas were left

Ok class, very good! Who got all

correct answers? Pupil’s raising their hands.

Ok, give yourselves a magnificent clap.

( sounds play)

3. Lesson Proper

2. Motivation
Hey kids! Would you
like to help Dora find the
steps in solving a story problem? Yes!

I think the bag pack will help

us!
( sing the song)
Bag Pack (4x)

What is the first step? Let us

Find out and see.
(sing the song) Ask.

Let us find out what is the

Second step.
(sing the song) Given.

What is the third step? Hidden question.

(sing the song)

Let us find out the fourth one.

(sing the song) Processes.

What do you think is the fifth step?

(sing the song) Mathematical
sentence
Our last and sixth step?
(sing the song) Solve and Label

Dora says, “Thank you, thank you

For helping me find the steps”. You’re welcome
Dora.
3. Presentation of New Lesson

Class, we have here a story

problem to analyze. I want you to
read it silently.

Mang Emilio can gather 4 baskets of atis and 5 baskets of mangoes

in a day. How many baskets of fruits can he gather in two days?

Let us analyze our story problem.

Do you still remember the steps
inside Dora’s bag pack? Yes ma’am.

What are those? - know what is asked

- know what are given
- find the hidden question
- think of the
processes to
use
- write the mathematical
sentence
- solve and label

Very good!

4. Discovery and Exploration

Let us go back to our story

Problem. Now, I have here a chart.
What does it tell us to do?

ASKED GIVEN HIDDEN PROCESSES MATHEMATICAL SOLVE AND

QUESTIO TO USE SENTENCE LABEL
N

Now, what is asked in the

problem? Number of baskets of fruits
can Mang Emilio gather in
2 days.
What are the given facts? 4 bags of atis
5 bags of mangoes
2 days

After knowing the given facts,

can you find the hidden question
from our problem? Yes ma’am.

What is the hidden question? We are going to find out

the number of fruits in one
day.

Ok, what do you think are the

processes to be used in solving our
story problem? The processes to be used
are addition and
multiplication

Very good!

After knowing the processes

to use, we are going to write the
mathematical sentence.

What is the mathematical sentence? (4+5) x 2 = n

Ok good! Now, we are going to

solve and label. (4+5) x 2 = n
9x2=n
9 x 2 = 18
18 baskets of fruits

I am very happy that you

really participated. I hope that
everybody have learned from
our first problem.
Now, we are going to sing
a song so that everyone of you
will still have energy.

(Teacher gives the tune)

I’m alive, alert, awake, enthusiastic! (4x) Pupil’s singing

Sit up straight. What can you see on the

board? Story problem.

Good! We have another story problem

to analyze and solve.

Read it silently and you are going to do

what we did earlier.

Is that clear class? Yes ma’am.

5. Working on other Exercises

Mario bought 3 coloring books for Ph 85 each and 8 boxes of

crayons for Ph 48 each. How much did Mario spend in all?

ASKED GIVEN HIDDEN QUESTION PROCESSES TO USE SOLVE AND

LABEL

(Teacher will guide the pupils with their work)

Time is up. Are you through?

Let us check you work.

Who got all correct answers? Pupils raising their hands.

I am so glad that you really
understood our lesson.

IV. Generalization

How do we analyze and solve two-step

word problems involving multiplication?

What are the steps?

1. Know what is asked

2. Know what are given
3. Find the hidden question
4. Think of the processes to use
5. Write the mathematical sentence
6. Solve and Label

V. Application – Group Work Activity

Now, I will divide the class into four groups.

you are going to answer the story problems
cooperatively. In other words, you have to
work as a group ok?! Select a leader for your
group.

But before that, let us sing Dora’s song.

(Teacher gives the tune)

Come on charity! Everybody Let’s go!

Come and let’s get do it, I know that you
can do it!

What are we doing? (Problem solving) 3x

Come and let’s get do it, I know that you

can do it!

Ok very good!
Here are the problems for each group.

Group 1: Yesterday, 27 Grade Three – Charity pupils went to the library.

each pupil read 3 books. Today, 16 Grade Three – Amity pupils are at
the library. Each pupil read 5 books. How many books were read by the
section Charity and section Amity?

Group 2: Mother asked her daughter Marie to buy 24 eggs at Ph 5

each. She gave her daughter Ph 200. Marie went to the store
immediately. She gave the seller Ph 200, how much change would
she gets?

Group 3: Princess bought 2 sandwiches for her snacks. Each sandwich

costs Ph 6. If she gave the seller Ph 20, how much will be her
change?

Group 4: Everyday, Carl Anthony drinks 2 glasses of milk while

Antonnette drinks 3 glasses of milk a day. How many glasses of
milk did they drink in 5 days?

I will be giving you 5 minutes to answer.

Start working.

Now, discuss your work with the whole

Class.

How’s your working with your group?

Did you help one another? Yes ma’am.

When helping each

other it makes the
work easier.
That’s right! When everybody is cooperating
and helpful, the work becomes easier.

Now, did you arrive at the correct answer? Yes ma’am.

Very good!

Class, what is the trait does the Charity

and Amity have? -They love to read.
-They are good
readers.

What is the importance of reading books? We will learn more

when we read books.

Whatelse? We can get different

information from
reading books.

We enjoy when we
read stories from
books.

How about the story problem of group 2?

What have we learned from it?

How about the story problem from group 3? Eating nutritious

foods.

Why did Princess buy sandwiches rather than

junk foods? Because she knows
that eating junk
foods are not healthy
to eat.

Very good! How about the story from

Group 4?
What do we get from drinking milk? Our bones will
become stronger.
We will become
healthy.

I am very happy to hear those from you.

I am so glad that all of you have learned
from the different story problems that we have
solved.
