This means that versions not mentioned are not supported. When a Service Pack (SP), ESD number, patch level etc. is indicated together with a version number, they are mandatory.

Operating Systems
CAST products, except CAST portals (Discovery Portal & AD Dashboard), can run only on the following Operating Systems: Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP3 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP2 Microsoft Windows Vista Microsoft Windows Server 2008 SP2 (Foundation, Standard, Enterprise editions) Microsoft Windows 7 Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 (Foundation, Standard, Enterprise editions) When running CAST products on a 64-bit edition of a supported Windows version, you need to be aware of the note Running CAST on a 64-bit Windows Version. There are no known issues running CAST products on a supported Windows system, when the Windows system runs on a virtual machine such as VMWare. However, it is inherent to such a system that performance is affected. CAST portals can run on every Microsoft Windows or a Unix system depending on the application server it is installed on. If you install a CAST portal on an application server running on Unix, you need to make sure that the X11 graphical interface is installed on the Unix machine and that the application server can access it. Particularly, the DISPLAY environment variable has to be set and exported.

DBMS
Supported DBMS Servers for Knowledge Base and Central Repository
Here is the list of database systems and versions where the CAST Knowledge Base, Central Base, and "Management Base" can be installed. Note that no unicode support is currently provided. Database System for KB, CB, and MB CAST Storage Service Version Comments

1.0

Oracle Standard Edition or Oracle Enterprise Edition, 32 or 64 bits servers Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard or Enterprise Edition, 32 bits servers only

Oracle initialization parameter CURSOR_SHARING must be set to EXACT on servers hosting a Knowledge or Central Base. Please see Appendix - RDBMS requirements and configuration for more information (part of the CAST Installation Guide). Multi-instance versions of Oracle Server (Oracle Cluster and Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC)) are not supported.

SQL Server 2005 with SP2

Usage Privileges When using any CAST products (CAST Enlighten, CAST Analysis Manager etc.) in a Microsoft SQL-Server 2005 environment, make sure that the login has been granted the VIEW SERVER STATE privilege. This is not necessary if the "sa" or "sysadmin" logins are used (not recommended), which already have this privilege. This privilege grants access to the server's current process list via master..sysprocesses or via sys.dm_exec_requests. This information is required by CAST products for internal management of database locking and the analyzer save process. To avoid product usage errors, users will be prevented from accessing the database if their login does not have access to the current process list.

Important note: CAST recommends installing KB on a "case sensitive" DBMS servers. This note is particularly important if you plan to use a Microsoft SQL Server which is by default configured as case insensitive. Please see Appendix - RDBMS requirements and configuration for more information about Case Sensitivity/Insensitivity.
