ii CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION Facebook, anyone? Oh, I got to check whos online. You might be at home, at school, at the mall, internet cafs, or simply anywhere. You even do it on your mobile phones. Thats Facebooking. We do it daily, whether you admit it or not. Why are we so hooked up? We just cant seem to get away with it. Once we get through the web, the very first site we enter is facebook.com before opening sites for web searches. Want to bet? Well, admit it to yourself. Connecting to friends, checking for updates, making new friends, visiting your farm, managing your own virtual cafe or even as simple as checking your daily horoscope. Chatting with friends, asking about assignments, uploading latest pictures and so much more. There's really much we can do on facebook. Boredom just can't visit you at all. We do it every day, eventually, we get addicted.

Everyone-i mean "everyone" uses facebook. Different age brackets, different status, different tastes, gender. We connect. That's it. ACLC students, being in a computer school, get to visit the web daily. Due to this current trend, the researchers have decided to conduct a study that will help to find the factors that causes facebook addiction of ACLC Colege BSBA-3 students. This researchers focus on the factors that causes facebook addiction. The proponents are ten randomly selected BSBA 3rd year students. Significance: The significance of this study is to let people understand the root causes of Facebook addiction and also to trace why people are getting crazy about it, and how it becomes a globally phenomenal hit. Statement of the problem Addiction is a disease; (facebook addiction disorder) is one of it. Why are people so hooked with it? Having no specific answer to this question initially shows that FAD is the most viral virtual disease as of today. So, the researcher will try to seek answers to the following problems: 1. When did facebook addiction started? 2. What are the common causes of facebook addiction?

Objectives: 1. To find out the common factors of Facebook addiction. 2. To clarify the misconceptions of Facebook.

3. To understand why people are addicted to Facebook.

2 Hypothesis: The temporary answer to this problem is literally avoiding the Facebook website every time were having a netsurfing. It is effective somehow as long as nobody would try to log-in his/her Facebook account.

3 Definition of Terms Facebook. Is a social network service and website launched in February 2004, operated and privately owned by Facebook, Inc. Farmville. Is a farming social network game developed by Zynga. Virtual. Not real but may display the salient qualities of the real. Youtube. Is a website to discover, watch, upload and share videos.

4 CHAPTER II SUMMARY OF RELATED LITERATURE According to the Facebook Gives a Sense of Self Worth article of www.smile101.com, Humanistic psychologist Abraham Maslow developed a theory that humans have three basic needs. One of these was the need for love, affection, and belongingness. Human need a sense of self-worth, and Facebook profile has become the perfect tool for people to let the world know all about their interests, their thoughts and their life. Some wise men said The disease of addiction can manifest itself in a variety of mental obsessions and compulsive actions that have nothing to do with drugs. I feel there is nothing wrong with Facebook. Facebook for me is a great place to catch up with people I havent thought of in a while. Old school friends camp friends new friends family, anyone who enjoy a quick game. It is also a great place to get to know someone. Then I love posting up my favorite songs from Youtube.

According to www.addictioninfo.org.facebook has become an indispensable way to find schedule events, and even send virtual gifts. But if youre doing more living online than off, it might be time to reassess. Many students are now seeing Facebook more as an addiction than a networking tool and psychologists are starting to agree. In his blog to Facebook addiction, Greg w. Huffman said, I didnt realize how popular farming was until Facebook came along. Farmtown on Facebook is the new craze. I dont understand why adults would sit around and pretend to be farming on computer, but they do. These people stay glued to their monitors for hours, tending to their farm. This is the first stage of Facebook addiction.
