2 Initial steps

On the left side you see six modules of Quality Center. On the right, the modules surface is shown. Generally, a tree structure with the respective contents is going to be displayed and on the right, there is an input mask for showing particular contents. All Quality Center contents like texts, field descriptions and information are written in English. Depending on the action to be realized, differently filled menus as well as symbols are available (gray = disabled). As well, with the right mouse key you can only work with those items which are available at that time. When moving the mouse to one of the screen frames, e. g. between tree view and editing mask, the size of the frame can be modified (red flash). In the editing mask, it is possible to switch to different masks via tabs.

All contents can be shown by changing the view to Component Grid. The focus may be put on certain contents or the contents sequence may be changed by filtering as well as sorting. In some cases (e. g. concerning Business Components), groups may be created according to certain rules, too.

In order to avoid display errors which occur on irregular database updating, the view needs to be updated by the refresh button. As the filters may not be deleted automatically (e. g. on program start or module change), they might restrict the view unintentionally. This can be avoided by deleting the filter (Clear Filter/Sort).

3.1 Business Components

Business Components are reusable units that define specific tasks within a process. They are the smallest unit in a test and contain the test procedure description. The Business Components structure can be compared to SAP menu tree structure. As far as the structure is concerned, for not going into deep in certain areas, deeper Business Components are pooled in higher levels. The Business Components description has the following structure: 0030_VA01_Sales_Order_Tab_Configuration (4-digit, intervals of 10/TCODE/screen name/tab name/table name, separated by underlines) As far as transactions with special characters are concerned, the character has to be written as a word for better differentiation: For instance: T-02 => Tdash02 T.02 => Tdot02 T/02 => Tslash02 It is only allowed to use underlines as special characters. As for details, the following is to be found (the most important fields): Component name (name of Business Component) Created by Creation date Status (processing status)

Referring to Description, a brief description (Summary) is to be found as well as preconditions which need to be fulfilled before testing (Pre-Conditions) and conditions that need to be fulfilled after testing (PostConditions). The Business Component history will be entered among Discussion Area.

The tester may be provided with values by variables to be found among the tab Parameters which are required for testing or the system provides the tester with variables which need to be entered manually (Input). By means of Output Parameters, the Quality Center forwards values automatically to subsequent test steps so that another tester is in the position to get them displayed. The names of the Parameters correspond to the field names presented in SAP layout.

The proper test steps to be realized are described (Description) in Design Steps. When integrating the Parameters as variable (<<<Parameter>>>), the tester is getting the values to be used in the text during execution. The tester gets informed about the expected result by the field Expected Result.

A brief error description will be entered in Summary and the Priority is to be defined. The Cycle will be selected by a drop down list via the field Detect in Cycle. The responsible person in charge of the systems is to be found automatically according to the release modules assignment ((Assigned to). Activate Continue Manual Run in order to carry on with the test where it has been stopped originally.

You may have a look at the history of all starts (All Runs) when double-clicking a test in Test Script. The test will be reset and a new Test Instance will be created provided a test has been activated via Run Manually. Each tester is saved with the appropriate ID (independent of Responsible Tester).
