IMPORTANT WORDS TO KNOW: These are the

vocabulary words used in Social Studies, Science, or Math. It is important that your child knows these definitions.

Instructional Focus:
As we begin our number sense unit in math, some fun ways you can reinforce this concept at home are by having your child count things in your house. How many chairs, books, and shirts? While driving in the car, count road signs, trees, and cars parked along the street, people in other cars, etc. When sharing a story, use the pictures from the book as a springboard for a math discussion. See if your child can count sets of things in the pictures.

The next opportunity to earn a First Grade Brag Tag will be by memorizing your phone number! This is an important life skill that all children should know. Keep your eye out for a form to come home where you can list the emergency phone number that you will be working with your child to memorize. Students will have opportunities to show their teacher they can recite their phone number, and then they will earn their brag tag!

Brag Tag Update!

On average, a child in K, 1st, or 2nd grade should be getting between 9 and 12 hours of sleep every night. This will help their math and reading scores, as well as their overall health. This website will help, and kids love it, too! It even includes state standards. WWW.IXL.com/math Enjoy, and get some rest yourself as a parent!
