UNESCO ASPnet and UNESCO Club Philippines International Human Rights Day Video Contest 2011 Rationale: In celebration

of the International Human Rights Day on December 10, 2011, the Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet) is launching a Video Contest on the theme: ASPnet Upholding the Rights of the Children. The contest provides an opportunity to ASPnet member-schools to develop and produce short videos relevant to promoting the Rights of the Children based on the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Convention on the Rights of the Child is the first legally binding international instrument to incorporate the full range of human rightscivil, cultural, economic, political and social rights. In 1989, world leaders decided that children needed a special convention just for them because people under 18 years old often need special care and protection that adults do not. The leaders also wanted to make sure that the world recognized that children have human rights too. There will be three categories for the contest: elementary students; high school students; and, college/university students. For each category, students should be able to show their talents and skills by producing a video relevant to the Rights of the Child as provided in the Conventions on the Rights of the Child adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1989. The contest is open only to UNESCO ASPnet member-schools and accredited UNESCO Clubs in the Philippines. This will provide an opportunity for member-schools to actively participate in ASPnet-led activities along with the promotion of solidarity among them. Objectives: 1. To engage young members of the ASPnet and UNESCO Clubs in promoting education for human rights through their creative and imaginative talents and skills in producing a short video. 2. To advance ASPnet and UNESCO Clubs goal of education for peace and human rights through the active participation of its member-schools and clubs. Contest Mechanics 1.
